Counter-Strike: Global Offensive official site is live (kinda), beta starting today

Do you guys feel like CSGO is going to be easier to get into? I enjoy playing source but I get constantly dominated with little signs of improvement.

I am awful at source but seem to be holding my own in GO. I have no idea if that is luck or if it is easier and I have only played one round since the update.

What engine is this in? Team Fortress 2, CS: source etc. always seem to reboot my router / internet. This doesn't happen with with any other, non-valve game. Oddly, Dota 2 works fine.

Anyone have a similar issue? Does it exist in CS:GO?

I would love to test (for this issue) before spending money. Will there be a demo or does anyone have a spare beta key?

Thanks!

Soooo is this game better than Source guys? I was hoping it would have the normal 5v5(?) considering I never played a CS game until Source a couple weeks ago. And it's fun.. But the only servers I can find are 60 man lobbies of TD. NOT FUN AT ALL. I'm assuming this new one will feature the vanilla settings more often correct?

I think that after this last patch it has pulled ahead of source. So far the matchmaking has been encouraging 5v5. Playing with the proper amount of people for the maps balances out the awp. They made some sorely needed changes to dust1. You can't block hallways in office with those glitchy goddamn cabinets. People aren't able to spray a photo of a prolapsed rectum on the wall. Basically a lot of small changes that really add up for me.

I don't think source was hard to get into at at all. I was a no one to cs and I only started last December to play Css. 130 hours later I'm headshotting batches from across the map with a M4.

yeah I'm not amazing but when I'm high or in the zone I'm okay at the game.

I thought GO felt roughly the same... It's different but I just can't explain how the engine feels different.

If I can't spam "Get in position and wait for my go" then I would like a refund.

Might as well refund now because there are only "Hold this position" and "I'm in position". They removed/replaced a lot of the other commands, so there are only five commands per list. Yeah it's a real shame, and one of the many reasons I'm done with this game. I'm just glad I was able to get into the beta so I didn't have to waste my money.

What are the bot options like on the console?
Yes please tell me. I'm on tenterhooks here!

Specifically I would like to know:

-can I play with a friend online against bots in a private match?
-can I set the bots to different difficulties?
-can I adjust the numbers of bots on either side or is it always the same?
-are the teams (nationality) always the same for any given map?

Thanks.

The last time I played Counter Strike was 1.6 like 10 years ago in middle school but I'm interested in getting into this. The only thing I always disliked was that you could only use shitty weapons until you killed, got more money and then you can get better weapons. But then people who don't have those weapons are already against the ropes and it becomes much harder to kill those who have the better weapons already. Is that still how it works or are there modes where everyone can have anything like TF2 or other FPS?

That's how the main mode still works. You don't have to buy ammo anymore and the prices are different. Even if you die you still get money for kills and objectives your team has completed. You can usually afford something decent if you spend wisely, but if i can't afford anything i'll hang back a bit and grab something off the ground Saving Private Ryan style.
you can always kill someone with the desert eagle.

What's the console command to make the bots have the highest difficulty? Playing with friends vs bots finally works but the bots seem a bit easy

the last time i played cs was it was cs 1.5 and i was on a56k and barely a teenager...and i was alright.

now im terrible, and no matter how hard i try and want to like it (and i do) its frustrating because i am average at best, and averaging at terrible.

Not sure if serious.

Do not run and gun, this ain't COD.

Anyone interested to know some details of the console version? Been playing the X360 version for the last few days.

Yes please...

1. Framerate - 30fps or 60fps?
2. Do the controls feel different than Left4Dead2? What is the control options screen like, regarding the look mechanic? (Sensitivity levels, acceleration options, zoom options, anything like that.)
3. Can you create a custom friends-only match, and fill it with bots?
4. Can friends join matches in-progress?
5. Any kind of final killcam, or theater mode?

Thanks!

PS - How are you playing the 360 version already? Lucky!!

Got into the beta yesterday and played a few rounds to try her out, still needs a little work. Not exactly happy with the slow player movement speed, silly over the top voices and the weapons need a little tweaking. I really doubt this game will pick up on consoles or in the competitive scene.

Glad I bought it though, will definitely continue playing.

Should be if the skill matchmaking works.

That's my concern for CS:GO. I got completely slaughtered the last time I tried to play CS. And I usually end up in the top quarter of the leaderboard in CoD and BF. CS players are maniacs.

After playing 200+ hours of CS:S, and jumping into CS:GO, my feeling is - this isn't enough to make CS fun again - it's too alike. Was pumped for it, now will buy it at deep discount in a steam sale.

I know that contradictory to the "hardcore market" who want it to be exactly the same, but hell to them! I would have loved for this game to shake up CS while keeping the hardcore appeal, instead it's a graphical update.

1. Running at 30fps, not sure if it's locked though. If anyone has an analyzer I'll check it out.
2. Feels very much like Left 4 Dead 2 also has the 180 spin button. All buttons can be assigned to other keys though. I'll post the default config below.
3. You can create games from what I've seen in the menus but can't 100% say on bots but I'm sure they will be allowed since I've not played online yet.
4. Features a play with friends and join Xbox Live Party game.
5. Sadly neither it just shows zooms to the player who just killed you.

Vertical & Horizontal Sensitivity can be adjusted along with Zoom.
Sticks can be adjusted for right handed & left handed.
Duck and walk mode can be toggled for hold or toggle.

Everything else can be assigned to a button, seems the same as the PC version apart from no mention of commands.

Wondering if anyone has a spare key. I have a couple diff things on steam that I could give in return. Just hoping to try it before I pay for it, as I am not a huge CS player. Thanks!

The thing is, almost every idea that anyone has for "shaking up" CS just ends up making it more like CoD. CS remains a unique entity in the gaming world so I can see why they wanted to preserve it rather than reinvent it.

No, they shouldn't shake up the CS recipe and still call it CS, it would be a disaster. I think CS: GO is awesome, especially for those of us who hasn't played CS for years and decided to ditch that Source abomination - This game is actually close enough to the original CS while still giving it a new flair for me to return to the game yet again.

Definitely easier to get into with the skill based matchmaking, casual competitive, demolition and arms race modes.

This game is pretty great. I was a little sceptical when it was announced but it's a nice mix of 1.6 and source.

New game modes are cool if you want to just jump into a casual game. I'm forcing myself to play competitive mode to get my aim back (not played for a few years at least)

This complaint is useless considering that pro teams walk around with desert eagles and beat teams of equal skill. If you have nothing get a desert eagle learn to one shot. Unless you're in a big server it's not hard to catch some idiot running around with no clue that has at least decent rifle or smg. 10 years ago most pubs also didn't fix the money stats so you have a huge load of money when you join.

Lol. Bots have 5 difficulties and the option of no bots if you want to check the maps out.

  • Harmless
  • Easy
  • Medium
  • Hard
  • Expert

No options in offline mode on how many you can add sadly, just the standard 3 vs 3 with one being the player. I haven't tried online yet but I imagine they could be configured to 5 v 5 in a private game but that's just myself guessing.

I'll have a look later to see what it has though. So far I've been playing with Medium until I've adjusted with the controller and got back into the play style because even on Hard the bots pull of some ridiculous head shots.

I used to play CS 1.6 loads back in the day but I've rarely played CS-GO until now on the X360.

Thinking of getting this on PS3 as my PC isn't nice enough for a constant 1080p/60. Any idea if it will be getting free updates? How sticky is the autoaim?

It probably won't get many free updates like the PC version will, considering it will cost valve x amount of money per patch. PC player will probably get 1-2 weekly patches like the other source games, TF2, etc. Which can be seen as a blessing or a curse.

Thanks for the info, If you do take it online before launch I'm interested to hear if any bot options make it online in private matches.

I'm still disappointed that PS3/PC crossplay was removed. I was hoping that I could use a stable machine that I knew could run it, instead of my computer which is pretty mediocre when it comes to gaming. I don't think I will even bother purchasing this.
