Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Teleporting everywhere is boring though. Sometimes I just like to explore the world and mounts are a great way of doing that and not be so slow about it.

Build a GOTTAGOFAST Elementalist like I am. With the right traits, you can have swiftness active almost all the time.

Mounts are a great way to miss interaction with NPCs - closing the world off even more. There's more to exploring than looking at pretty landscapes. I recall a youtube video that followed a random NPC after helping him gather wood, spawned a whole new set of DEs - right when you thought the DE you just helped him with and he would despawn - he made use of that wood - chaining new events and a mini-boss.

Mounts are the perfect way to avoid exploration, IMO.

I agree with you here in relation to GW2 and the way it works. If it were static quest giving mounts cut out the annoyance of travelling through barren land, however with GW2 being dynamic "everywhere" becomes a place to explore.

uh, you need to go to the waypoints to unlock them on the map anyway. Exploring is actually a big part of the PvE gameplay.

Yep, you might waypoint into a zone but from there you just head out and only use a waypoint if you need to go to a town to sell/buy or maybe craft. Otherwise you just head on out and see what you can find.

It's funny that ANet went from no jumping in GW1 to the most jumping related content of any MMO in GW2. There's 35 Jumping Puzzles (that we know of atm) and 266 Vistas (mini jumping puzzles).

I was thinking about this the other day

"Guild Wars 2 is the game we always wanted to make." THEN WHY COULDN'T I JUMP FOR SIX YEARS?

Ha. My guess is their team was tiny (6 people) at the start and GW1 was originally a PvP only game, but then they put in PvE so I think given a small team (30 at ship) they really didn't have the manpower to worry about what happens when you put a z-axis into an online game.

I'm so close to pulling the trigger on this...

I just don't feel like justifying this purchase to my boss (old-lady). Someone make it seem worth it.

There are a pretty good number of ways to not move slowly in this game. From waypoints to Swiftness powers that either you possess or your allies do, you tend to get around pretty well so long as you're not alone all the time or running a non-Swiftness build.

And if you're really concerned about it, play an Elementalist. They get around faster than anyone.

How exactly does waypoints = moving faster? That's just teleporting. lol As far as swiftness, yeah, that's not a mount.

While you're playing Guild Wars 2, you won't be looking at porn. Probably. Wife should admire that.

It's totally true, there is no windowed mode so GW2 is not dual monitor friendly

Man, can't wait til this comes out.....Too bad I have a party that I have to attend to on the 25th....going to try and get out of there as quick as I can. Also just got my 25/50 in GW1....pretty sure I am done until launch. I'm also stuck between a ranger or a thief. Engineer was fun too, may roll that.

... you're seriously telling me that GW1 was developed by a team of 6-30? O_o. Holy crap!

Yep, it increased to about 45 for Factions, something like 50-60 for Nightfall and finally 75 for EoTN. GW2 on the other hand will ship with 260+, ~80 or so are artists. This is why they can split into a full live team and a full expansion team since they have a full team now.

Indeed, makes SWTOR looks even worse doesn´t it? considering it cost 200 million and had hundreds of people working on it...

A clear idea of what works and what doesn´t and skill executing that idea is what defines a great developer (and almost every other thing).

Vanilla GW1 was a very small game in comparison and not even an actual MMO. It barely had PVE content and it's focus was on small scale instanced pvp matches. The comparison makes no sense.

Why would I need porn when my character is a sexy nine foot tall redhead norn?

How close can we zoom into the ass area of our characters? Just wondering....
