Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Okay, I laughed at the dumbass on Twitter insulting ArenaNet for their GamesCom promotional...

@GuildWars2 F U for not giving everyone a chance to get those items. This is an international game not an american only one.I regret buyingit

The nerve of some people...

You're on a PC! Buy a separate mic and buy a proper pair of cans! :D

That does nothing for me considering I want a quality mic/headset combo to game on 360 as well. Also, my budget cap is a strict 100 dollars. I'd be too tempted to buy some 200 dollar plus thing I would barely use for what my money is actually going towards in that instance: listening to music. Plus, I move around a lot.

I just need a mic/headset combo that gives clear audio I/O, comfortable, affordable and durable. So I can bug you guys with my voice on mumble and hear the complaints. And to communicate during games, I suppose.

Strict $100 budget?

My friend, this is your next set of headphones:

BONUS: You have buttons on the side of the cans that can turn your voice into Zordon, Robot, or Asura.

If Mann v Machine is out tomorrow, I'll probably be doing that instead of the stress test. I know pushing ANet's servers is helpful, but I don't want to burn out on these short bursts. I also have to re-adjust to my keybinds and tweak my keybinds every time. Can't build the muscle memory so I get ornery.

Trust me, MVM is going to be late. I'm EDT, so the stress test will be from 3pm-7pm, and I bet that they still won't have the MVM update out until 9pm.

There's around 30 people in my guild atm(and growing) all from this area and pretty much no one has hosting capabilities or want to pay for server hosting. In past games most of guilds had it because well, international guild and 80$ a year isn't that bad but here it is kinda annoying and yeah anyway we were wondering what's the best free program we could use for communication that a) doesn't use ton of bandwidth/has high latency and causes lag b) doesn't use 10000000000 mb of ram.

Any ideas? So far I've been recommended Raidcall and C3, latter one was using 250mb ram with 5 people on channel hm

Uh, could one of you download Murmur and host a Mumble server?

There you go.

Blizzard just announced the big Mists of Pandaria patch (talent overhaul, account-wide pets/mounts/achievements) will be released on... August 28th.

That used to be a big deal. But meh. Wow doesn't pack the punch it did in the past. And GW2 is the first big competitor that innovates with an MMO. It will be interesting. Blizzard probably will have to inflate their subs with quite a bit of semi-real Asian accounts to look good.

Maybe to look good but there profit margin will still be very high, WoW is such a massive cash cow it is unreal.

Whoa, nice, it even lists Euro times from Stress Test events as well. Just have to add 2 hours (GMT+2 :) ).

The nerve of some people...

OK, that was hilarious. Thank you. :)

Unrelated to all that, I hacked together a little program in Java that takes care of creating and recreating playlists for each of GW2's replaceable categories (ambience, city, battle, etc.). You have to do a bit of housekeeping first (create a directory with subdirectories for each OST you want to include, then directories within each OST for each category, and move each song to each category), but after that, it makes it quite easy to select which OSTs you want to include in your personalized GW2 soundtrack, and change them at any time. It looks like this:

Is anyone interested in this, like, at all?

"Pre-Purchase with 3-Day Headstart: Everyone who pre-purchased Guild Wars 2 will enjoy three full days of Headstart Access. The three-day Headstart Access will officially begin at 0:00 AM Pacific time (GMT -7:00) on August 25th. However, please note that in order to ensure that we’re fully prepared for that fateful hour we may bring servers online up to 3 hours prior. If you’re a player committed to getting in first to grab that character name of your dreams you’ll want to be keeping an eye on things during that time period."

Shit just got real.

Yes. Please. Pleeeease.

I don't ask this snidely, and only because I haven't had the chance to play the game myself: does GW2 have any strategy-heavy group play?

In the videos I've watched, it looks like everyone just kind of zergs everything in sight, with little regard for any kind of coordination. Again, not asking sarcastically, but would appreciate if someone could point me towards some videos with some truly awesome group content. If people have posted stuff already, sorry; it'd be a pain to sift through 202 pages of posts!

Look up some PvP tournament matches between guilds.

From a quick search: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvlQ0qySFBU

Edit: You'll probably want to look for something with match commentary.

Does anyone know how many English European servers they will start off with?

They're doing 24 for each in the current betas but will very likely add a few more for sure. They're also able to throw more up as needed without taking anything down. They had 96 in BWE2 just because they could.

Look at these videos, this is one of the best teams in the world currently:

About the 3 hour thing, I think I'm just going to give up on getting any particularly desirable names...

About the GW2 music thing, ArenaNet said they'll probably NOT make a manager themselves (if any of the guys with the encyclopaedic knowledge can fish the quote, all the better); that's the only reason I'm making one. I see there's some people interested; I'l give it a bit of spit and polish (I'm just now implementing persisting which folders you've enabled between executions) and upload it tomorrow.

Thanks for that. Any stand-out PvE videos that you know of? PvP isn't typically mine or my friends' thing in MMOs.

Well, considering nobody has ever gone above level 30 (of 80), or if they had, they had this huge NDA preventing them from talking, the answer is "we don't know". We do know that the game doesn't have raids; dungeons are all 5-man (and much harder in Explorable Mode than the equivalent from other games). World events that consist of fights will remain zergy by nature, and that's OK, but there's also insanely epic dragon fights with siege weapons that must be used and protected, and even repaired (escorting the repair team) if they are destroyed.

Also, do not discount WvW as a source of entertainment; I normally dislike PvP but WvW is created to appeal to PvE lovers as well.

Goddamnit, people are stupid.

It actually seems like he did it on purpose to force a refund, because, since he uploaded pics, he seems to be bragging about... something.

Which still seems stupid, as he was entitled to a refund anyway, and he took a huge risk to get his account banned with no refund. So... I don't know, I guess.

Either way, I think we can all agree GW2 is a better place without him. I hope he tells his friends the game sucks, too.

Coordination comes from experience, and at this point all the experience is going to come from groups of people that have studied the game before release and are playing together. Most of those people will also be on PvP and WvW. There will be PvE videos, but I can't find any right now, sorry.

I'm surprised they gave him a refund.....What an idiot.

Nice, Jira. Stormbluff Isle confirmed.

Customer service. You can't just take the money in a game that hasn't officially released yet. Sigh.

I am very surprised, he said yes to the user agreement they should have kept the money, don't need ignorant people like him playing the game...

Exactly. May have made him think twice about having to spend the extra money to buy the game again. With his money back, he'll just buy a new game/code.....unless it soured him. Let's hope that's the case.
