Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

I doubt there's even enough time in that frame to realistically sell. But I bet it pops 2 million without any trouble.

I don't think it's too far-fetched to predict that GW2 will sell more than 3 million copies till 2013. The game will have a healthy player-base.

I highly doubt 3 million on first year, but at least GW1 sold over 6 million total units even though it was against WoW every day of it.

I can see 2 million, but 3 million in the next 4 months?

Would need to have a flawless launch and insane word of mouth, also Blizzard would need to be hacked and their expansion delayed until next year...

That count expansions or straight up vanilla game?
Counts expansions, but buying the trilogy doesn't count as 3 sales.

I'm certainly not going to post in the WoW patch thread as I don't want to be accused of trolling nor unintentionally do so, but I had to do a thing real quick:

So there was this post, and then a lot of responses to it along these lines.

Yeah, it will be in the mix along with Guild Wars, LOTOR, Conan, FF14, RIFT, TOR & TERA.
Yeah, just like Conan, Rift, TOR, Vanguard, Warhammer....
A lot of people have said this about a lot of MMOs. You'd better knock on wood.
I've heard these too many times over the years to take it seriously.

Two things immediately jumped out at me.

1. The dude didn't say GW2 would kill WoW. He didn't say it would have more players than WoW. He didn't say it would be the best MMO, and didn't say it would be better than WoW. He said it would "have a pretty big say in what the best MMO around is." Not even that can be taken seriously? :'(
2. All the other MMOs being namedropped. Well.

They are the #3 and #8 best-selling PC games of all time. The next MMORPG on the list is the original Everquest at #18 (Wrath of the Lich King expansion is at #14, but its number sold are included in the # of subscribers in the WoW entry).

Put another way, WoW and Guild Wars are the #1 and #2 best-selling online RPGs of all time by a massive margin, and nothing else mentioned comes anywhere remotely close. No one sees what makes the launch of this game a little different from the others mentioned? :-/

Anyway, no way it comes close to selling as many copies as WoW has current subscribers. On a related note, it will sell an enormous number of copies.

edit: Note, this data is dated (roughly 4 years old). WoW has fewer subscribers at present while GW has sold about a million further copies.

Anyone have any tips on fixing the camera to resemble GW1? I played GW1 for about 6 years, mostly PvP got to rank 12 and recently purchased GW2, played for an hour during stress test a few days ago and something about the camera really bothered me. It dragged too much behind my character and it just didn't feel...right i guess.

I'm in the mood for some jumping challenges I think. Too bad my highest level character is trapped in some kind of limbo instance where I can't log in with it =/

I would suck a Charr's dick if the camera could be more like WoW :-( Right now I don't like how it rubber bands behind the character when moving or how terribly draggy it feels to just move it around. Then again, they never fixed it for GW1 so I doubt they'll do anything to it for GW2.

Had that happen to me when I got disconnecting in WvWvW.... but then the queue filled up.

At least I feel better now knowing I'm not the only one who thinks there should be some more customization with the camera :D

It did feel very slow, and even though GW1 camera wasn't the best, it surely was better scripted than this.

Once the official forums come back after launch, I will most likely start a "petition" post there since all you need to do is google this shit and you'll find people whining about it all over the interwebs. I don't expect anything to happen with it, but at least I won't go out without a fight :-)

That happened to me when my character was last in the Hunger Royale area(end of BWE3 event) before the servers went down. It also has no arms on the character selection screen.

Huh, I thought that fixed that bug after the first beta. If not, they better get that fixed before release.

Quick question, maybe it has been answered before but I'm new to this thread. What's the popular server that everyone on GAF seems to be using? There's so many to choose from :O

I think GW2 will have a great start. There is a lot of buzz around it. The million dollar question is though, can GW2 keep people interested for months or even years on end? Like Wow did.

GW1 did... I don't think GW2 will have any problems with longevity. They'll release expansion packs etc and keep people interested for years

This has more to do with the community than the game. The game of WoW doesn't keep people interested so much as the people you play with does so. Honestly, at least 50% of my time in WoW could be described as mindless, boring busy work. It's always the community that keeps people attached to the game. So making friends in GW2 and having activities to do with them and keep logging in is important to having an active playerbase.

True, but especially in the first few years Wow struck the perfect balance between having fun things to do and a good community. Hope GW2 is the same as early Wow in that regard. But you can join dungeons through a queueing system right? That has me worried as it kills communities.

There are a shitload of other group stuff outside of dungeons like quests and events though.

Is there a stress test for those in the US? I never got to play the beta just bought a week ago and would love to see it in action before final release!??
