Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Yeah, I'm not fond of the race spread either. I'll probably go Norn as well like a bulk of people seem to be.

I think they have some cool concepts for races, but the more exotic ones just don't seem all that solid in design and parts. Lettuce People could probably be cool if they had more to them.

Also its pretty clear Asura are the best, then Charr, then Sylvari, then Norn, then humans.

Maybe human then norn. And Sylvari are = charr.

So Asura > Charr = Sylvari > Human > Norn = truth.

sword + pistol Mesmer is kind of like playing a Thief with illusions and no shadowstep. Quite decent damage output, and the duelist phantom with the bleeding and frenzy traits can be nasty.

Well, you sort of have shadowstep with the sword (your clone jumps and you can swap places with it), and you have Blink to teleport anywhere you want.

But yeah, your movement options are more limited than the Thief's.

By all the forms of polling this game has had, Norn and Charr are far and away the least played races. Come release I think the numbers will be even lower than what is showing in the current data.

I've come to really like the race selection. The sylvari 'blossomed' for me when I realized their personal story trumps the human one. The fact that a lot of their arthurian-ness is overcompensating is kind of interesting.

And, of course, Asuran master race.

Small races are usually pretty cool, Asura don't do much for me though they just look kinda...well...

Asura lore and stuff is fairly well done. Capital city is downright impressive. But yeah, pretty gross looking things.

Sylvari seem to be second only to the reigning MMO popularity contest winners.

For me the Asura and Charr are tied for coolness. The Charr are just too big and feel slow, otherwise I'd be maining one. Instead I'm going with Asura.

I like the Sylvari and Asura. I generally dislike elf type races in fantasy games so it is a kinda surprise to me that I am so drawn to making a Sylvari character, perhaps they just got the mix of human and alien plant-like features just right. And who couldn't love the Asura in all their tinker goblin like features. Definitely gonna roll with one of each once the game hits.

I like fair characters and even if I didn't I have a wife who would chew me out for not having a fair character for our duos.

This is actually the first MMO in awhile I'm considering a more vanilla type Human race, though. I was kind of interested in the Salad Kingdom but I didn't like what I saw in their customization options.

I'll give Asura a better look later. I only got a glimpse of them before I got booted. Man I have missed every damn test.

How will the headstart work? Are we required to have our physical/digital copies of the game at hand? I ordered the Collectors Edition and am a little worried that they will send it on the release day of 28th instead.

Decided to go with Asura based on this. Although movement speed is the same for all races Asura feel 'snappier' due to their small size, you get the same illusion with jumping. Oh and the animations rock.

My problem is going to be adjusting to the other races when I roll other characters.

Hum I just read about server transfer... Not sure if I like that. So when I choose a server at the release I'm stuck on this server and I can't make any characters on another server ?

I think at first you'll be able to change your "home" server at no cost, but that period will not last for that long. But yeah, all your characters are tied to a single server. Your server is also your faction when it comes to WvWvW. That said, you'll still be able to play on other servers using the guest function, you just won't be able to enter WvWvW on any realm except your home.

Depends if you're EU or US. For EU, you should be all set if you prepurchased. Your prepurchase code is your retail code, so you just login when the servers are up.

Has there been any official confirmation about this? If so, that'd be awesome.

I never understood people who always play humans >.<

For me the prob with humans in most western fantasy games is that their design is boring and uninspired. They're usually the same medieval humans, with samey faces and crude hair, unimaginative fashion/clothing.

Funny enough I think GW2's humans are much better than what you usually see, and artistically have a very strong thing going for them. Both in their cultural attire and their cities, the big one at least. So I wouldn't mind making a human character along with whatever else I try.

The human storyline in GW2's world is also pretty interesting, especially how, in a sense, their backstory is spread out over both their own and the Charr backstory.

Do you get a Hero's Band for each character you create?

I'm going to rush character creation to reserve my name but details about the hero's band says that it is mailed to you in-game once you create your character. Just want to make sure I don't blow the item by deleting my first character.

I used to always try and make my character look like me, it's usually why I'd play a humanoid character. Plus I usually like the castle areas that are associated with humans.

But, I really like the Charr zone, I think it's my favorite that I've seen. Unfortunately I don't know how much the armor is going to clip through them. I might start an Sylvari and then just move to the Charr zone.

Is there an ini file or option I missed that will let me tone down the insanely aggressive LoD? The game is gorgeous, but it feels like it's only gorgeous for 40 feet.

That's actually a very good question.

I rarely, if ever, play a human in MMOs when there are good alternatives. Sadly, the majority of races in Guild Wars 2 are not appealing to me. I can see how people would like the Charr, Asura, and Sylvari, but they're just not for me.

Fortunately, Guild Wars 2 has one of the better human race designs I have seen in an MMO. I'm currently looking at rolling either a Human or Norn.

It's funny everyone is saying how Humans and Norn are the only races that interest them. I was in that boat a few months ago. But the more I saw of this game, the more interesting the other races became to me, and now I'm at the point where I have to play all of them. And I'm one of those "boring" people who usually plays a human.

Asura are last on my list though, because I've found it hard to make one that doesn't look ugly (sorry Asura GAF), but I've seen a few images in this thread that at least convince me its possible.

Simple; I want to see all 5 Personal story lines.

Looking at my list of race/class combos (which is constantly changing, of course) it looks like I'll end up Norn Warrior, Human Guardian, Charr Engineer, Sylvari Thief and Asura Elementalist. I'd like to have a Norn Guardian too (female, of course) but then I won't have a Human at all (Ranger and Necro do nothing for me and I'm still very much on the fence about Mesmer).

Still sorting it out. Got 8 days to do it.

Every MMO race has to pander to a specific group:

Humans: People who aren't into fantasy mumbo jumbo and just want to play
Big furry: You want to be intimidating, but also have a soft side.
Small uguu race: For creepy people who will undoubtedly fill a sketchbook with disturbing art
Elves: You want your character to be fantastical, but not too much
Regular furry: For you know who.

Asura are kind of like the Pugs of the dog world. They are adorable to their owners or people who have owned one, but others think they are just nose breathing snot dribblers.

I personally like the Asura animations (think they are the best of all characters I've tried) but I don't like their zone all that much. I know I can just switch but I might as well start in a zone that feels more 'storylike' to me with a character I'll like just as much.

Asura can be cute... but with their attitude that I gleamed from their background story Im thinking of them as (and Im sorry for this) WoW Gnomes.

Due to that they must be, at the very least, punted. Preferably by Norns.

Curious because 1) I have *very* limited experience with MMOs and B) I haven't touched WvWvW yet: does friendly fire exist? It'd suck if it did, but I'd also understand...

I definitely wasn't sold on the Asura at first, but after playing one and seeing them in action I'll be playing one for sure. Hell, I've spent the last couple of days deciding whether I want to give up on my badass Charr Engineer and roll an Asura one instead... in the end though, I had to go with the Charr. He just looks too cool; http://i.imgur.com/LRBqF.jpg?1

Guild Wars 2 now works very well on Linux

soumis il y a 14 minutes par JnvSor50/50 GWAMM

The main issues with GW2 are mouse movement, freezing when typing, and the launcher.

These have all been fixed by wine devs, anet, and people like me poking both the wine devs and anet in the sides until they did something :)

How to run GW2 on Linux Download this wine build (rename it tar.bz2) and start GW2 with the options "-useoldlauncher -dx9single"

Tada, GW2 platinum on linux!

The only remaining bug (NtPerformanceQuery crash) is sporadic and temporary until anet remove their performance testing code. Point is, now I can register my chars! Yay!
