Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

That is where they think the underwater zone is.

Don't think there's a fully underwater zone. Certainly nothing out in the middle of the sea like that. As far as I know, what's on there is all there is for launch with the exception of...

uh, Asura and Sylvari don't share the same starting zone, do they? There's one missing on the map I think.

Yeah, there should be a zone north of the Grove on there.

I'm in the UK but I think I'll just join Stormbluff, the pings will probably be fine :)

Unless you work the late shift you might want to re consider that outside of launch week.

(Speaking from experience that is)

I'm playing from Japan and the latency seems ok. I didn't notice any major lag for the three beta weekends other than when I was near the WvW gates in Lion's Arch. I am not so worried about the time difference either, since I'll probably do personal quests, crafting, and exploring on my own during weeknights and dungeons with the guilds on the Weekends (Friday nights in the US are Saturday afternoons for me). I'm guessing the only problem might be spvp if my pings spike, but I'm not a big pvp fan.

Can anyone speak about Norn vs. Sylvari in terms of character animations and story quests? I'm set on a warrior, but can't decide between these two races.

Please add spoiler tags to all story quest info if you reply to this - some of us (myself included) don't want to be spoiled on story details. Thanks!

I'm going crazy waiting for this game. I feel like playing more Kirby but my brain is saying that "This isn't Guild Wars 2, why are you doing this?"

Let's please have an MS Paint contest which we each pay 1 silver to enter, and then the winner gets all the silver in the pot.

A plant warrior? Pfft, go norn

I was planning on making a Sylvari Warrior for my second character, but I do worry that Sylvari will look bad in heavy armor. I won't really be able to use cultural armor in the early levels, so I don't want to look like crap the whole time I'm leveling.

It was a little jarring to see a Sylvari wearing chain mail at first, but i cant imagine it being that bad. Also think about how cool you'll look when you do get that cultural armor, ehhhh?

ill come at you with fire and watch you BURN
Flesh burns too. I'm a Guardian, I set MYSELF on fire. Bring it.

Their models are very human like (not to mention the animations), so other than the different color face I don't see it being all that big of a deal. I played a Sylvari Guardian in the last BWE and he looked just fine.

Plus the cultural armor looks awesome.

All i know is that my Charr will be a warrior, because Charr are BAD ASS

If you had problems with the Tauren, you may want to reconsider Norn. They aren't any slower, but their animation feels slower because of their size. You may not be able to get past it, but I spent a few hours and got used to it.

Finally decided to preorder this game at the behest of a friend. I think I'm going to roll a guardian since I enjoy playing support classes. I'm unsure of what race I want to play though, might just go boring old human for my first character.

My name is tastier than yours

Also, any profession can be a specced as a support character. Warriors and THFs can be support characters. So I definitely wouldnt choose a profession based on that. Id pick a class that you like the mechanics of, or, since you ahvent played yet, sound interesting to you

I'm well aware of that, but something about chainmail (or plate armor) on plant flesh looks off to me. It might be something you get used to. Also, I feel like if I'm playing a distinctly non-human race, covering myself from head to toe in armor so you can't even tell I'm not human is the wrong way to go.

But you are right... that cultural armor.

Finished the client download. Can anyone double check their current folder? Mine is showing up as 14gb with just three files.

Three files is correct. That's just how the GW2 client works. I'm personally at 15.9 GB on the .dat file, but there might be a difference in filesize due to my having patched all existing clients up to this point, vs. your downloading the whole thing fresh.

1 Week from NOW!!!! I should probably go Pre-order it now! Diablo 3 disappointed me, hopefully this doesn't do the same :)

You really should preorder now. No reason not to.

Coming from someone who was equally disappointed in Diablo 3, and has played a number of hours of Guild Wars 2 Beta Events, this game will not disappoint.

Thank you! Going now!! :) $45 buck not bad! better than spending a $100 on that piece of crap that is D3 collectors.

Edit: Is Deluxe edition worth it?

16.1 gb with three files. Try opening the launcher, it will probably give you a patch.

Unless you get a hard on looking at Rytlock, then no its not worth it. better spend that money on gems so you can buy extra bank and character slots

thats what i meant to say. Apparently i just suck at constructing sentences

Your sentence structure was fine. But he was asking about the Digital Deluxe, not the Collectors Edition. I figured you were just referring to the Rytlock minipet that comes with the DD edition. My point was the Collectors edition has that, AND a Rytlock statue. So Rytlock lovers can ogle him in game and out.

Is there a way/where to download the client prior to having an account? Excluding torrent, as I can't use it.

I'm still waiting for my registration key to make my account, but given the nature of my Internet connection (terrible would be a monumental understatement) I'd like to start downloading as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance.

Ah, i was talking about the statue. Kinda forgot about there being two special editions since I never bother with those

How can you call yourself a true GW2 fan if you don't have a statue you'll look at once and never again?!

You can also put it on your shelf, so that people visit your house they can ask you about it. And then you respond "Leave me alone, I'm trying to play Guild Wars 2."

(Assuming you have access to the 3-day headstart, and if you don't, why not?)

GAFGuild Mega-Awesome Pre-Launch Super-Countdown Festival of Hype Mumble Meet & Greet Event!

Here's another opportunity for everyone to hop on Mumble and get to know their future guildmates before launch. Even if you don't have a microphone, you can still participate since Mumble has a chat window. If you don't want to speak up, that's fine too; talking is not mandatory and you're welcome to just log in and listen (keep the creepy stalker breathing to a minimum though).

The event will begin on Friday, August 25th at Midnight (9PM on the 24th Pacific, 4am GMT) and run for 3 hours. At this point, the game launches and everyone officially has license to freak out. This event is strictly B.Y.O.K (Bring Your Own Kool-Aid). Please note that ArenaNet has stated they may start the game up to 3 hours early, so you might as well get on mumble and spam the Login button with the rest of us.

Yep, I'm still looking for / clearing a place of honor for him.

Gotcha. Thanks everyone. I was concerned about the number of files but the launcher appeared as it should. Just had to make sure.
