I'm in tears here. The dubstep minigame alone is incredible, but then them playing back the footage - fuck, that was evil.

*applauds*

I'm not buying a kinect for the DF game, but damn if it's not a perfect reason to have one. So much fun to be had.
...

Been listening to some old podcasts (2008/09) and it is amazing how fun they are still to listen to today, maybe even more so when you consider the context, and how things worked out for some games, companies, and their predictions in general. Like the possibility of a Capcom-made Mortal Kombat game, or their hopes for Rage and Max Payne 3.

It is also fun how things remain the same, even after several years. For example, Army of Two 2 announcement was followed by Jeff and Ryan asking why would you even need to make that game, Vinny saying he should probably play it, with the other guys going "nah" and shaking their heads at the suggestion. Brad expressing his love for XBLA games, especially summer of arcade, and how some releases don't live up to the previous ones. Jeff throws out how he is also playing stupid amounts of Phantasy Star (for PSP) and also declares his love for Trackmania when mentioned in passing. More than three years later these guys still are at the top of their game.

Another funny (and sad) thing was listening to them talk about what a "successful" game was back then. They were talking about Stranglehold and Midway troubles, and hearing Brad go: "Wait, wasn't that game super successful?" "Dude, it sold like 1.5 million copies!" just made me shake my head in disappointment. The whole reason there was an Army of Two 2 was because the original sold about 2 million... No words.

Going to sub for a month to catch up with some of the videos I haven't seen. I can't miss them playing Olympic themed games now, can I.

I shouldn't be shocked that the Olympics stuff went up so fast but I am.

I am too. I don't know how these things function any more. I thought it was supposed to take time to compress everything and get it processed, but this week TNT, the Olympiad, and the Double Fine thing all went up within an hour of the thing being over. Maybe even within the half hour.

I dunno, maybe it's one benefit of the CBSi move? They got approved to buy a piece of equipment they didn't have before? Or maybe it's just that Vinny is now just running video of one site and there is no longer a line of stuff to cause delays?

Hm, I wonder if Vinny has anything to do with Comic Vine anymore?

They hired a new video guy, might be that.

It's missing something....

Better!

my apologies to Trick's lovely wife

One GIF I want from Double Fine Happy Action Sequel is of Jeff wandering on-screen about a minute or two into it. His movements are hilarious.

The Olympic stuff was horrendous. Ryan who plays video games for a living struggled with the most basic of concepts and kept going on and on about how he likes everything to hold his hand. Within seconds it was easy to figure out what he should be doing yet it took him 3 hours of fumbling, it was like watching my grandad play games not a video game journalist.

The Happy Action TV quick look was a thing of beauty, the dubstep part was incredible.

Video game journalists are bad at video games.

Oh wow. You missed the part with the controller issues, and how open he was about not knowing what button to press obviously.

Old games can be hard. I was hoping Ryan would play Olympic Summer Games '96 for the SNES. That game gives you zero instructions on what to do, and I almost guarantee most people would fail all events with the exception of archery and skeet shooting. But it also has awesome music.

All video game journalists should be on the level of pro speed runners otherwise I can't take their opinions seriously.

You dont have to be a "pro level speed runner" to know out of 3 possible buttons what each one does.

When I play a game, I don't get confused by mini maps or which button to press but shit clearly I'm just lucky.

Obvious sarcasm aside I feel games journalists could challenge himself a bit more though. A lot of them like to 'tourist' through games on easy/normal, which in a lot of cases reduces the challenge to the point where a game becomes boring.

A lot of these old sports games can be pretty obtuse, in that there are no proper tutorials or in-game instructions.

I envy you, but you sure knew which button did what in the diving contest just with a glimpse at the screen.?
