Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Is there a chance that the new Nvidia drivers will be released today? Was hoping for the Nvidia enabled GW2 optimized drivers. I wanted to see how much better Kepler and Fermi cards would run the game!

It's getting really close. Uncomfortably close.;D

The latest dev drivers are getting some praise if you are desperate.

You're right. I want it to be my fist colliding with their faces. Why let the ground have all the fun?

I'm tempted to make a big ass Norn on release day and just walk through the Asuran towns pretending I'm stomping them. In fact, we should all do that :P

I think tomorrow I'm going to try out a Charr Warrior. I have a feeling that's what im going to end up playing when the game goes live.

Woooo!

I.. I don't even know what to do anymore! I guess I will just roam the starter areas a bit :3

Will Stress Test progress count towards headstart / launch or will that get wiped as a standard test?

( I'm guessing the latter but hey, have to be sure )

I am so looking forward to everyone hating me for being Asura. (not sarcasm) lmao

I don't get the hate. I played Asura in the BWE, and they're awesome.

That said, Charr are pretty god damn amazing.

Not exactly sure... but half the fun of being a little guy is everyone wanting to step on you!

I always play little guys in MMOs. I spent my entire FFXI career as a Taru SAM/MNK.

Thought for sure the last stress test was it, but this one should definitely 'be it' so I'll have to try out the game as though I was playing it during stress test again to get a grasp on the different areas. I think I'm going to do 2 or 3 starting "zones" since you get lowered down anyway, and it can't hurt, then move into the next areas. Is anyone else waiting for 24-48 hours to even start crafting? Figured it'd be best to wait until I've gathered a lot.

Also, at what point do you use each salvage kit? I was using the cheaper ones on the white items, and the next one up or the one after that on any non-white items such as gear.

(Asura Ranger for me, I think)

So.. when`s the OT going up? Who's in charge of it?

Pretty sure Jira is in charge and last we heard was:

I'm sorry, I know this is an irritating question that probably has an answer in here somewhere, but I just wanted to ask whether the PvE aspect of this game is substantial enough to play the game for? I don't plan to ever PvP, how much of a value would the game be for me?

Yes.

Yes it is. Aside from WvWvW mode I don't have much real interest in any sort of PvP and I've had a lot of fun playing cooperatively in PvE

No. I mean yes.

Oh right, I wanted to ask: To anyone who actually was hyped and watched the forums when Conan, TOR and WAR released: Was the Hype back then similar to what we have now? Was it less, or even more?

Honestly, each aspect of the game except for sPvP is enough to buy the game for alone, in my opinion. But there are people who are willing to spend $60 just for the sPvP alone as well, along with the promise or more modes being added to it.

It's really a substantial game.

Well worth it. I will mostly play PvE and i know i will definitely get my money's worth

I wouldnt totally count out on WvW though since its quite a different beast than the PvP that you are probably thinking of.

It mostly deals with taking and defending castles and keeps with seige weapons and defending and acquiring supply to build those weapons

I don't know what WvW is like, but I've participated in lots of PvP, including realm vs. realm in DAoC and it's just not my thing. I've never liked playing against other players.

But thanks for the input, guys. I got an e-mail from the GW2 team today reminding me that I can still pre-purchase and get in on the headstart, so maybe I will.

I'm basically playing the game solely for PvE.

I think sPvP is worth buying it for.

Man, as a Paladin by heart I have my woes against the guardian - It looks a bit too support class for me. Normally I like fighting with the ability to heal myself and help my teammates, however I don't want to be the guy behind the lines handing out evians and cheering them on with the occasional spell. I don't want to pump in 20-30 hours into a class to be proven right either, that'd kill it for me.

Have I got the wrong picture of the guardian? Will it be that 'knight' character I'm hoping for or the cheerful support bot?

There is a lot to do in PVE. The idea that this is just a PVP game with PVE on the side is an old holdover from the first GW1 game that doesn't really apply here.

All the classes in this game are pretty capable at whatever role you want. That much isn't really a gimmick, they almost all have strong options in all the traditional roles. If anything I think the most prominent role they have found in the tournament metagame so far is defensive point control (i.e. being sturdy and having a lot of knockbacks and stuff to keep people back). If you're just talking about PvE you can certainly do whatever you want with a Guardian.

Edit - I think I'd scale that back a little since I think it's pretty hard for a Necromancer to do something like moderate or higher group healing consistently. But for the most part it really is accurate.

A lot (most?) of your support abilities are also offensive moves. For example, I like to use a sword and torch. One of my abilities blocks projectiles while firing energy projectiles back at the enemy. Another ability is my breathing fire in an AOE cone which deals damage and also removes debuffs from allies.

Oh that sounds reassuring, I like that 'stand your ground' kind of character. However I will be focussing on both, perhaps leaning towards PvP.

It depends on your weapons and traits. I've solo'd to LV14 with an aggressive Guardian and dealt a lot of damage with a Greatsword.

Sword and Torch is about as offensive as it gets. If you find your guardian is too defensive, use different weapons.

The PvE is HUGE. If you never touch PvP at all ever, you will still have plenty to do, and there's a ton of variety.

torch? As in a torch torch? O.o

Yep. Torch is a weapon.

I leveled a Guardian past 30, it is definitely capable in combat. I mostly focused on hammer skills, which are great for high damage and knockback while letting utility/heals take care of the squad. Some heavy hits with the hammer simultaneously generate AoE boons as well.
