Damn, wish Dota 2 made it to MLG.
Rumour has it that they were telling Dreamhack how to run things for their tournament and generally causing them some issues. Never been a fan of how most LoL tournaments are run by Riot themselves.

I don't take MLG seriously. As someone who also plays and watches competitive fighting games, the fact they do not include any Capcom games make them a joke.
Pretty sure Capcom is the ones stopping this, and not MLG.

I can't see how anyone could be mad at Riot for getting that almighty dolla. MLG either. If there wasn't money to be made, there wouldn't be an e-sports industry. Or a gaming industry.
We're in agreement that it's a disappointment as a fan. As someone with (sports) marketing experience, it's no surprise deals like this exist.

I understand why you're disappointed- I'd LOVE to see more DOTA 2 exposure as well.
But you've gotta look at it from the other side. There's some substantial money at stake. You'd be hard up to find a better ROI through traditional advertising channels over nurturing & cultivating a "pro" scene--no matter how forced or undeserving said scene is.
And for the event organizers, it's hard to turn down guaranteed revenue.

A business decision can still be disgusting, Onlive fired all their employees so they could go bankrupt and not pay them a single cent, and then let another company buy them. A business decision for them..but still a shitty one.

That's completely different. Apples and oranges. The layoffs were a result of the ABC restructuring. They don't get to go into bankruptcy because they layed off some employees. Would you rather they close their doors permanently and not re-hire anyone?
Back on topic: it's advertising. It happens. It's essential for an industry to grow. You may not agree with it, but you don't have millions tied up in it either.
They've got the money to do it. They're just doing what's best for their bottom line and their "shareholders." I suppose at this point we're just arguing semantics but we can all agree on one thing: seeing a sub-standard game getting more attention over a far superior game is pretty shitty.
