Hows the game play BTW?
I'm a big fan of games that allow me to punch a lot of dudes, and Sleeping Dogs is one of the dude-punchiest games I've had the pleasure of playing. The combat feels really good (albeit better with a controller), the cars handle well--I can actually win some of the races--and the gunplay is decently satisfying. It's a lot of fun.

I think it's funny how every single person I know watched novelas when we were kids but now they're too ashamed to admit it.

Telenovelas are hot. I lost cable the other day and started watching Univision. Once I learn spanish they'll be even better. :D It'll replace my lack of daytime soap operas.

Are there gay telenovelas?

um..what is a novela? am i sheltered?
Soap opera is another word.
With the "boom" of spanish ones and Univision/Telemundo usually transmitting ones from Mexico, Venezuela and Colombia, the spanish word has been used more and more.

EDIT:
The only one I could stand and really enjoyed was 'Betty La Fea' (the original version of 'Ugly Betty').
Heck, probably why I wasn't a big fan of 'Ugly Betty' in the first place, the original one from Colombia was so much better in everything and comedy too.

people watched soap operas as a kid? i was watching digimon and reboot.

I did too. I actually started watching soaps once I got older and needed something on while I played my handhelds. Beautiful men and women doing sexy dramatic stuff. What's not to like?

But the camera angles and fierce acting--along with intense music--add to the complexity of the lovingly crafted stories in novelas*. Let's not forget the awesome intros and eye candy.

*I don't actually care for novelas, but I do watch some when I'm eating and my mom and sister watch one. The current big one they like is Un Refugio para el Amor, which brings me to my next point:

Unfortunately there aren't many good pictures of him on Google (they seem to be older), but he looks fine in the novela.

And:

He's so cute.

If you think novelas are bad, you should watch la rosa de guadalupe. So bad it's funny... well, at least the first time I watched it.
HAHAHA. That shit is awful.

Also, I watched cartoons when I was kid way more than novelas; I just remember the few times I'd watch novelas with my mom while we were in her room.

@Nlroh: I think that counts as a novela, though, it's just a different story every day.

Novelas in a nutshell.

I still remember how she died in in that show :P

It is indeed a freaking catchy song.

The one that started the Maria "trilogy": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVbMUdPN6rc

Yeah, I most definitely didn't either. And I live in Mexico, lol.

Cool! What part of MX?

This is the one where she speaks weird, right? I only recall some of it.

I knew there was a third one. I honestly don't remember ever seeing this one, though.

Even as a kid I didn't like novelas very much because of the characters. So cruel and over-the-top =/ It made me feel bad, haha. That's why I only watched them here and there.

Did you ever watch La India Maria? I remember I used to love it, but don't actually remember concrete details. I just know it made me laugh a lot. (I remember a bullfighting scene and one where she goes to a carnival/rides)

Yeah. Like a "naca" :P

I watched the old the movies, never watched the TV show. They were fun.

As a kid I remember having watched a few day-time novelas. I never watched Mari Mar, but I do think I watched Celeste. And although I don't remember it very much, I remember I watched a few episodes of Luz Clarita. Parts of the chorus, particularly the name, have stayed in my head.

I left the TV on the other day and Angel Rebelde was on... there was this amazingly handsome shirtless guy... and then they showed him standing there wearing only briefs for a while (some girl was daydreaming :P). I thought to myself WHY DON'T I WATCH THIS MORE OFTEN???

Because it's terrible that's why. Just watch some Sean Cody and you'll get people in brief (at least until they get them off).

Am I the only gay person who legit liked girls? I didn't really have crushes on boys till I was 12-13 when puberty started kicking in. After a while I stopped liking girls entirely and just ran off with the dudes happily ever after.

People would come up with that "its a phase" reason for boys liking boys, but my phase was liking girls.

EDIT: And kissing girls, and being with them... never felt quite right. Liking guys however, feels natural. Feels good.

Contrary to the States, telenovelas are prime time television in all latinamerica, and even outside of that spot they are the most prevalent form of TV show, the weird thing would be for someone not having watched a telenovela as a kid.

I always hated soap operas, I watched Sailor Moon and Saint Seiya (and Dragon Ball of course, and probably a ton of other animes I don't remember, they were really popular here back then) when I was a kid.

I should play it then I have hear nothing but good things about this game!

Gay mexican gafer reporting on novelas here.

I don't get why the denial about the novelas, I guess that when you grow in a house with only one tv in the house that you always turn on the moment you arrive from school, you only had about one or two hours before the mothers sent you to study or play only for her to change the channel and watch the novelas.

So it was like that, you either left the house to play (and I almost didn't have anybody to play with), or you stayed and watch the novela maraton from 4 to 8pm, thats when dad gets from work and changes the channel to watch some syndicated dubbed american show before the news at 10pm.

It was like that almost every weekday for all my childhood and I did had to watch lots of novelas that thankfully I've managed to forget.

I still live with my mom and she still watchs her block of novelas in the afternoon.

I could've been 6. I have a vague memory of fooling around with my step brother too.But I don't remember what we did.

Holy damn. I didn't hit my stride until like... twenty three.

Not the only one. I was pretty much on the straight and narrow until university. That's when I kissed my first guy and started having doubts. Before then, I was all about the ladies. Though, I suppose I was pretty hesitant in my relationships and I guess there was that issue with porn...

Hey, since he's banned, I'll keep this thing going :P

See, in my case, you're right that I don't love the idea of being associated with the community. I'm not sure if has to do with masculinity, but it seems to me carnavalesque, silly and just not me. This is not something I "built", I'm genuinely not interested in this kind of "atmospheres", masculine, feminine or otherwise. It's true that from a quick look at a profile you can get this particular "feel" from someone, and it's not that it's negative, but I think it's perfectly okay to look for people that have more things in common with you. I've been online-rejected for not drinking and not clubbing, so it swings both ways and I'm okay with that. Still, I've been pretty open minded in the past, and I can tell from experience the best dates are with people who are more similar to you. I have more fun talking about games and animals than talking about fashion or Lady Gaga - again, because I'm not naturally in love with fashion or Lady Gaga. Nothing to do with those thing being feminine, since I'm into cooking and diabetes-inducing J-Pop.

Some people seem to have a great deal of disgust for some things/people and the great lengths they go to avoid them. Some people take a lot of time and energy pointing out some things out repeatedly and to differentiate themselves.

It's one thing to be different and another to completely wall yourself off from things. I'm not really into clubbing and there are tons of things I'd usually rather be doing or talking about, but I can appreciate it and have fun doing it. Similar things applies to dating.

What people think they want in a guy at one point in life is usually somewhat different from another point in life. I've seen many times where people are so sure they want X,Y, and Z in a relationship, but it's not until they venture outside of that circle do they find people they want. Not always, but it's far from rare.

though, by replying and stating these things, you are 'building' that image of yourself. you're defining it for you and for others on this board :) it's one of many ways these self-images are built.

In grade 2, I used to get the kid who sat in the desk across from me to show me his penis under the desk. I still remember his name too...Conway. And oh there was this one kid, Tony who had hit puberty early and used to show me his GIJoe collection after school in his house. I used make him flex his arms as I pinched his biceps.

I'm not reading about sexual manipulation and exhibitionism in grade school students. Please tell me I'm not reading this.

No.. I liked girls too and actually had er awkward sex with one when I was 15 long after I stopped liking them but I think theres usually a degree of sexual confusion for early teens.

In my case, I always knew I was gay..so I never looked around to have girlfriends to experiment, pretend or anything.

My first kiss was at 23, which I already explained and involved a 40 years old smoker and his lips all over my face.
But before that, simialr to Space at school other kids showed me their penis (even when I was bullied all around..guess not everyone had fun punching me :p)...and even up to this days, I have more "luck" seeing straght ass/penis/chests/etc. than gay ones.

I've also been with (counts) 15 guys and yet , not a single boyfriend..or something similar to it. :p
(Was thinking abotu it recently after watching the Anna Farris movie 'What's Your Number?'. Chris Evans' in it...and naked a few times too. ;)

I don't even know what telenovela this is from, but 2 or so years ago this video was everywhere in every social net here in Spain (together with the "Maldita lisiada" video that rm88 posted). It's glorious lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLMgRd5odQc

It generated infinite parodies. I loved one that had the music and sound effects from Dragon Ball Z in the scene, but I don't find it anywhere now :(

That really sucks, do you live in a gay unfriendly area or just not much luck?

Talking of first kisses, I've had 4 BF's and numerous flings ... but I went on a date tonight and at the end he lent over and kissed me. My god it felt like the first time I'd ever been kissed, probably the best kiss I've ever had, felt giddy for about 2 hours after.
