Morbius getting a new ongoing. Spidey costume change in Marvel NOW will be because of 700.

I'll be picking this up.

Just grabbed the red variant to ASM 692 a couple days ago.

Well, the Ultimate Collection collects the first three trades, Big Time, Matters of Life and Death, and the Fantastic Spider-Man. Big Time is good, Matters of Life and Death has two of the best stories of the run, and Fantastic Four is probably my least favorite of the run so far, although it has it's moments. After that...

Spider-Man: The Return of Anti-Venom - Great two-parter involving Eddie Brock's return as Anti-Venom and the crime lord Mr. Negative, and two very good one-shots stories.

Spider-Island - Big Spidey event of last year. Sometimes TOO big for it's own good, but it has relentless energy bursting from it's seams, and the last 2-3 issues are really fantastic. Also includes the Venom tie-ins by Rick Remender/Tom Fowler that are pretty fun and add things to the overall narrative.

Flying Blind - Coming back down to street level Spidey stories with a very strong two-part story, involving a vicious Vulture and a new hillirious relationship between Carlie and Peter. Then, a two-part Daredevil/Spidey cross-art with some fantastic artwork.

Spider-man: Trouble on the Horizon - In the build-up to Ends of the Earth, Slott and co give us a pair of breezy, lighthearted stories involving time travel and space stations full of zombies, in that order.

Ends of the Earth - Globe-spanning epic as Spidey and friends try to stop the Sinister Six from destroying the world! Not as good as Spider-Island, but there are a lot of fun moments, and the last three issues are a pretty strong conclusion. Beautiful artwork, too.

and we just had this story, but the trade won't come out til October

Spider-Man: No Turning Back - Slott's strongest story this year so far, does some VERY interesting character work and developments with the Lizard, but never short on action or humor.

At this point, he's earned my trust that he knows where he's going. Like, I don't like Alpha right now, but I'm sure he's got a plan. And if not, hey, the next story in October involves Spider-Man in the middle of a Hobgoblin war fighting ninjas with his Spider-Fu and fighting fire with fire with his own Goblin-rider/bombs, so I got something to look forward to.

And after that is the final Doc Ock story, he finds out Peter is Spidey and then does some shit and dies.

Liefeld is rage quitting comics because he is a movie guy now. Can't wait for the studio to pull the plug on the Bloodstrike movie and he has to come crawling back and be a D List talent on Deadpool.

And if they announced the Morbius title, then they better announce the Kid Loki team book/if the Runaways will be in it.

You know, much as I don't mind the rare serious events like Galactus or Phoenix or Thanos, this is what Super-Hero comics should be about. One guy doing crazy fun stuff.

So... like, I don't even know how to say this as it's such a broad statement, but I want to start reading comics more actively. My favorite graphic novels are from Batman, I loved The Dark Knight Returns, The Long Halloween, The Killing Joke and Year One. So I think I'm good on my Batman. I guess I'm looking for recommendations on things to pick up and get started reading, anything Marvel or DC I would like. Also, I know I really want to read Watchmen. I know this is a broad request and hard to answer, but I don't know, what do you guys usually request to those just starting to pick up comics?

DC:

All Star Superman - 12 issue series by Grant Morrison collected in one trade paperback.

Batman, part of the new 52 relaunch, if you want to read something current that's good, the first trade is out now in "court of owls" by Snyder and Capullo.

Are you mainly looking for miniseries and not ongoings?

unrelated note: Reading through Sinestro Corps War trying to decide if it's worth getting the Absolute of. So far, it's still enjoyable at least.

Any particular characters you're interested?

Since you like Batman, You should get Grant Morrison's "Batman and Robin".

Two things normally recommended pretty much unanimously around these parts are Uncanny X-Force and Mark Waid's current Daredevil run.

A really good X-men run is Astonishing X-men by Whedon and Cassaday. My favorite X books.

I really liked Carey's Legacy run. Especially the earlier parts, just make sure to get Age of X, too.

Alan Moore's stuff is excellent. His run on Swamp Thing is superb, V for Vendetta, Watchmen and From Hell are all my go to Moore books.

Neil Gaiman has a little comic called Sandman that you need to read. All of it, I know, I know it will be expensive but you will never fit in here until you take that in.

Honestly, I liked Red Son a lot more than A.S.S.

I don't know why people on CBR seem so focused on the theory that Peter Parker will no longer be spider-man. I simply can't see a situation where that is ever a good idea. They haven't set up enough for it. Way over the top.

Honestly I think it will be the reverse, he can't be Peter anymore. It sort of fits since it would need to be a thing all the other writers would need to take notice of and I don't think it's really been done.

In which someone thought it was a great idea to take away the main appeal of Spider-Man(Peter Parker, and all his relatabe attributes) and he just goes around calling himself The Spider, all self-serious and shit.

It wasn't very good.

Hmm, well good to know it won't be that then.

Peter will either get destroyed ala Bane breaking Batman's back and then come back. Possibly at the hands of Alpha. Or he'll physically kill somebody. Has he done that yet? He keeps talking shit in recent issues like "IMA DO IT I DON'T GIVE A FUCK SON, DEEZ PPL AINT SHIT TA ME".

Alpha will be out of control and he'll choke him to death. He'll be kicked out of the avengers and become a full fledged criminal to the eyes of the public.

The Web-Slinger Rises.

I'll put bets on:
Osborne had a affair with MJ.
MJ secretly had a child.
Gwen is back.
Parker remembers he was married.
Spider-Man publicly dies, Parker moves on.
Soon to be replaced by black Spider-Man

Ultimate Gwen is great, but she shares nothing in common with 616 Gwen other than blond hair and the ability to be killed by supervillains.

they should bring her back with a new personality/style. Sucks that they can rebooot many a things but not bring her back. Then again it's probably because they wouldn't know what to do with MJ if they did. Then again not much has happened with her in a long while besides buying a club.

They pretty much did that with Norman Osborn. His personality after they brought him back was pretty different. I don't see why they can't do it again (although I'd argue that he was a much cooler character to begin with).

oh man, i vaguely remember him sitting in the dark, eating his mask and saying "I AM THE SPIDER" over and over, good times

ProTip: no current superhero comics that aren't heavily recommended or by fav talent.

Favorites/usually recommended stuff:
All-Star Superman
Arkham Asylum
Walking Dead
100 Bullets
Powers
Preacher
Scalped
Ultimates
Watchmen
Grant Morrison's Batman
Scott Snyder's Batman
Bendis' Daredevil
We3
Ultimate Spider-Man
Anything by Joe Sacco
Acme Novelty Library
Optic Nerve

Alright, how about if I narrow it down to one character for recommendations. What would people recommend as go-to Spider-Man? Both current and classic?

That.... took me a second to comprehend. I've always appended the "of america" inside my head as an unspoken extension of the name justice league so I didn't get that they were trying to tell me about a second ongoing.

That said, fun-looking roster. Hope it's better than the main JL.
