AVENGED SEVENFOLD, Aren't they great?

I'd rather people didn't try to speak for me.

It's like if I said 'A7X sucks, and anyone who likes it is a moron and doesn't know what music is' rather than 'A7X sucks'

Cool your jets. Nobody said anything similar to that. A lot of people disliking the band, sure. But nobody has outright insulted anyone else in the manner which you suggested, nor has anyone decided to "speak for others" as you also stated.

Extreme dislike for something is not the same as condemning those who like it, nor does it imply said condemnation.

Honestly i find most of these responses fairly interesting, i know alot of people will give them hate, but i do find most of their music to be great! I wonder if most of thee people here who post prefer the 90's era?

I'm curious about all these replies saying they suck live. Did you guys see them with Arin or the Rev on drums? Which instruments sounded off?

I ask because I've seen them play Save Me live, and I'm pretty sure that's their most technically demanding song. And they nailed it. And that was with Arin on drums, who's still a bit inexperienced. Saw them with the Rev a few years back and they again sounded excellent.

You're not metal until you've burned down a church and killed a member of a rival band.

lol

But have many of you heard of TOOL? i only ask through curiosity, i only recently got into them but according to most of my friends it is the general consensus that the metal world loves them :L

You don't know what you're talking about. Listen to some of the songs from City of Evil and there's absolutely no way that you could possibly say they're "terrible". Maybe not your style of music, but not remotely terrible.

Like this

My favorite song of the band, easily. Also, they're not as bad live as some of you are saying, guys. I only watched the Live in LBC show on my cable TV, but they performed pretty well.

What's wrong with Avenged Sevenfold live. Someone link me to an awesome live concert so I can compare. I'll return tomorrow with my verdict.

Metal fans are the most elitist music fans I've encountered.

They can be.

At the same time I'm a huge MetalHead and I can listen to anything from Poison/Bon Jovi to Cannibal Corpse/Cradle of Filth. I'm not even joking. Hell I even like post-meltdown Britney Spears and other electronic music.

I like some genres more than others. I like Glam/Thrash/Power/Melodic-Death/some Doom/Black...
Not so much into Nu/Grindcore/Stoner/Prog metal.

I'm definitely don't care about the whole "I must listen to the heaviest shit ever" mind set. But I do appreciate Heavy music.

I'm tired of wanna-be metal snobs who think people can't be into metal if they like Ax7. You don't know what else I like, gtfo.

Look at this bullshit.
Perhaps I should clarify, as that does sound snobby.

I can't tell you all the times I've had someone hear that I'm into metal and bring up Avenged Sevenfold to me. Of course, that's as far as their knowledge goes for the genre, even bringing up seminal stuff like Death or Mercyful Fate gets blank stares in return.

You can like the band obviously. But don't walk around telling people you're into metal when Avenged Sevenfold and Disturbed are the only bands you listen to. It's annoying.

It's understandable. It's like saying you like superheroes and only know who superman is.
Really though, this is the point where you can recommend some shit and broaden their horizons. Maybe they'll like at least some of what you recommend.

There is lots of snobbery to go around in all of Gafs hobbies. PC elite anyone? And I bet they don't like to be called that either.

Sounds even more snobby now.

Metallica, Seattle 1989

or does GAF hate Metallica?
KuGsj.gif

There is a segment of Gaf which loves Metallica, but any time they have a thread, or the big Metallica thread is bumped it always brings out the haters.

Metallica is probably the most trolled band ever.
