people calling jeff a shill are going a few steps too far, it's obvious(?) the guy digs the game, or at least sees something in it that's interesting and worth highlighting.

but he kind of went "PR mode" for a good chunk there with the over-explanation of the mechanics. toward the end he acknowledges how slimy (i think he uses the word 'insidious') the some of the DLC hooks are.

unrelated, but I've been waiting for them to drop the EX moniker from videos because these get much fewer views.

Who was that person that Quick looked the two WoW expansions? It might have been two different people, one was a guy and one was a girl. I think one of them was done in beta too, I was kinda expecting them to QL the newest one

this whole game is a scheme to get lapsed rock band players back without digging out the stupid plastic instruments. I don't even know where'd you be able to even buy them anymore.

I bought a bunch of dlc while the genre was flying high, and wouldn't mind going back for some extra mileage out of it with a different game like this.

Doesn't actually seem that complicated.

That may just be because I've been playing Sequence a bunch over the last couple days, which also involves hitting a bunch of notes and switching fields a bunch.
 
Rock Band Blitz does not look like a hard game to understand, you guys. You change lanes and you hit your notes.

Stay in one lane too long, and you won't earn as many points.

Hit specific note types to charge up power-ups that allow you to earn more points.

See? Simple.

Because Xbox Live only lets you have 100 friends, and the Facebook integration is letting me keep up with and compete against people who aren't on my XBL list, for starters.

From what I'm hearing in the OT, the game is fairly gimped without the in game money you earn from the Facebook app too. But I haven't played it myself, you can check the OT for some impressions.

The Facebook friends I have that aren't on my Xbox list are the exact reason I don't want this stuff plastered all over. I think this is something you lose perspective on when your career revolves around games.

Edit: This isn't a dig at Blitz, per say, especially if what I'm reading about being able to block wall posts are true, but it's really annoying to have to be something to think about. I mean, I doubt the real reason behind facebook integration was competition outside of already established friend lists. The naivety of social advertising has worn off for most of us by now.

I'll probably still get it, but now I'm super depressed it's not the Freq/Amp sequel I was hoping for.
 
I don't mind optional Facebook integration for those who want it but locking people who don't want to use the app out of certain features and making them grind for the in-game currency seems unfair.
 
Is it forced down your throat though, or is it an option?

I haven't really paid attention to the quicklook or the game in general.

Oh. See, that sucks. If it was simply an extension that's one thing but if it hinders your ability that's pretty lame. I don't even have many people on my FB and I intentionally made it that way. 70 or so people is enough, not 570.

I agree with the general sentiment about the Facebook integration in here, btw. Same with Twitter or any sort of social networking in games. Don't want it, don't need it, serious turn-off if it's on by default.

Based on numerous reviews stating the same complaint, if you dont take advantage of the FB integration, you won't earn nearly as many coins. Coins are required to buy powerups that disappear after useage, and if you don't use powerups you have no chance of getting the best score possible, and the entire point of the game is to get the best score possible. So those of us with no interest in FB have to play songs over and over with no chance of getting a great score simply to build up enough coins to buy powerups (powerups cost more than the number of coins you generate by simply playing a song well). I can't say enough how much I hate that design decision. Or the decision to make it look like it's a successor to Amplitude, but in practice is far from it.
 
Count me in as someone who has no interest in a game that makes twitter/facebook integration important.

Maybe I'll buy it when it's pn sale for 5$ two years from now but I would have probably bought this day 1 if it wasn't for that shit even if it's optional shit.


Having to grind without the chance at 5 stars to get enough coins without facebook is GROSS.

Of the 5-6 people on my fb that have xbl the ones I want on my FL are already there.

Not everyone works in an industry where they would know 2-3 hundred people with XBL tags.
 
Just don't connect the social networking stuff if you don't want to.

Or set the app to not post to your wall or just to a list of your close friends.

I look forward to checking it out.

Tons of iOS/Android games already do that and give you in-game rewards for a positive/5-star review. Played some flash games on the web that did that as well.

Sleazy as fuck to see things go in that direction, but whatever.

how do they know if the review is positive? I don't think even those links that send you to give a review do anything other than open the game link in the App Store so I doubt they have some kind of API to do that

That's true, they can't. They just track you opening the link and going to the comments/review section.

But the trick still works: the way this is communicated in-game makes it sound like you'll be rewarded for a positive review - it is encouraged. And the type of people to follow such a link to get an easy reward in-game wouldn't know that it's technically not possible for them to track the actual rating or content of the review/comment in the first place.

They don't. You can just click the redirect link and switch back and get the bonuses.

But people don't know that.
 
Giant Bomb is soft when it comes to talking games made by close friends. You can tell they wanted to shit on Wreckateer a few bombcasts back but instead opted to say "yeah... It's ok".


If this game was Guitar Hero Blitz I seriously doubt there would be any kind words for it.

They were harder on it during the latest bombcast. I think if Brad had been reviewing it, he might have given it a 3/5.
