Couldn't care less tbh. In an ideal world he'd be third choice in every position he's capable of playing

I think he'd be a great wing back, especially considering how much territory we're likely to have in the opponents half, and how far up the left back plays. I'm a Downing defender myself, I think he gets too much shit. Would love to see him flourish as a wing back.

If we plan on using the fullbacks that high up the pitch, I honestly think Robinson could displace Enrique as early as the end of this season. For all Enrique's strengths, he's a fucking idiot a lot of the time

Can we have that Gustavo dude then? Haha

you can have our kurt cobain if you guys want.

edit: lol, elsk

Why is VDV leaving Tottenham, Of all players?

If he leaves it will be because Hamburg pay £12m+ for a 29 year old with dodgy hamstrings. I see the value in it but the thought of us selling our greatest weapon against Arsenal (4 goals and one assist in 4 derbies) is grotesque. If he really wants to go then I accept it, he always gave 100% and he deserves to start every game.

I don't understand Arsenal. I really don't. Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Robin Van Persie, Theo Walcott... all in the space of two seasons?

I know people think Walcott is a terrible footballer but he isn't anywhere near deserving of the vitriol he receives. Would have him at Liverpool in a heart beat.

Arsenal really is a wonder...

Maybe the try to hide him because they arent allowed to have him take the medical yet? I mean as of right now he's still a Athletic player. Guess Sky Sports ruined the surprise but i wonder if this will have any negative consequences...

Yeah, I must say that I don't get that shit.

It would make sense to have a medical before he (or more like Bayern) buys himself free because it's not like a normal transfer where both side agree a deal being up to a successfull medical. But Bayern said that they checked it with their lawyers and it's not possible that Martinez buys himself out of the contract because of some laws and taxes. So this would mean that Bayern and Bilbao agreed a deal after all. In which case the first idea is surplus again.

Don't know why I even bother but that stuff is pretty interesting.

according to the video and the latest news, he has to buy himself out of the contract today in madrid.
it seems that bilbao is still against selling him

Whilst I agree that he isn't worthy of the level of criticism he receives, his wages are pretty high, with rumours that he wants close to £100k a week. That's the only thing putting me off him coming to the club, because I don't think he offers a sufficient return for that investment. Saying that, the last players we had who had such a wage were Cole and Aquilani, so he's not got to do much to hit that benchmark.

Both him and Sturridge are promising talents, although I feel both are slightly over priced and both can probably be pretty frustrating to watch.

It was a miracle we finished 3rd last season, but of those listed, only Fabregas will be missed. Plus, say we sell Walcott and RVP, but bring in Cazorla, Giroud, Podolski, and... one or two more squad players. I'd say that's a big improvement.

edit: and he rejected a 75k/week deal. sorry Theo, but that's what RVP was on before he was sold, and there's no way your worth to this team is anywhere near what RVP's was.

So.. Just wondering would Arsenal fans have rather RVP go to City?

Of course this could be a giant cover up that allows Bilbao to save face (and extend Llorente) but this whole saga doesnt make much sense. I mean how come Bayern are even allowed to talk / negotiate with him, let alone the medical, surely that cant be done without Bilbao's consent... it's very strange indeed.

If Giroud and Podolski find a way to score goals in this system, yes. Right now it seems everything good about Arsenal going forwards is through Cazorla, and he's a creator, not a finisher.

Then the question is why didn't they do it a week ago? Everything was clear, Bayern want him, Martinez wants to go and Bilbao doesn't want to sell. But according to Bayern, it wasn't possible. Now it surely looks like it's very possible.

The only solution I can think of is that Bayern agreed to pay the taxes, too. At the rumored 8m, that would be just insane. But with Franz running around and saying "At this price, it doesn't matter if it's 30m or a few more" on TV, I guess that's not impossible.

Plus we'll need the money for more players coming in. :P

You already miss Van Persie...

When Adebayor was sold and Wenger first started playing him as a lone striker, RVP didn't score in his first four or five games. Giroud will come good. Podolski... who knows.

So.. Just wondering would Arsenal fans have rather RVP go to City?

I wanted him to go wherever the bid was the best. Plus, it's not like another striker is what City needs so it wouldn't really be strengthening anyone.

Who knows, they hired a team of lawyers to study the case both for the taxes and to know if Athletic could sue them later.

Last news I read were saying Bayern didn't need to pay any taxes. Who knows, I doubt they're going to talk about it to the media anyway.

As if Bayern (or more like most clubs) still care about the rule that forbids them to talk to other players. Lewandowski just said Bayern tried to talk him to join Bayern, no one cared.

Yeah, I think there's some kind of agreement between clubs to not report those kind of things.

Arsenal fans who think they won't miss anybody other than Cesc are just thinking about the first XI, IMO.

Cesc is properly special so it's damn hard to replace somebody like him. RVP, Nasri...they're good players but there are players out there just as good (though RVP last season was pretty insane). But that's besides the point, Arsenal's weakness isn't really their best XI, it's the squad.

When you have players like Cesc, Nasri, RVP...and then Cazorla, Podolski and Giroud backing them up, that's when you have a real shot of challenging.

Is there any truth about the Spanish tax stuff in Football Weekly? They said the transfer fee could end up being 55m euros.

The problem is that under Spanish rules the player has to buy himself out. But no player has 40m lying around, so when a club (like Bayern) gives him the money, some argued that the money would be seen as taxable income...

I would guess they simply found a loophole that allows Martinez to hand over the money without ever "owning" it or something like that.

If you are interested Sports Illustrated wrote a piece Äguero and his buyout clause last year: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/sid_lowe/01/29/atletico.buyouts/index.html

true, i just meant that there were other ways to block the transfer if Bilbao were dead set on keeping him.

Doesn't Brendan Rodgers want to play possession football up at Liverpool? Theo struggles badly against teams who sit deep. He's not as good a dribbler (from standing) as Nathan Dyer or Scott Sinclair so I'm not sure how that would be a good move for them.

The issue isn't necessarily the player here but the timing. Theo, like Song, is replaceable, but it's abit more difficult to do so when there's just 3 days left.

Arsenal fan.

Walcott is not a terrible footballer, he is a good one.

With Walcott the situation IMO is as follows the club do not want to offer him extra large wages to avoid the situation it currently has with Chamakh, Park etc. Where they have offered ordinary players large wages only to find out no one else is willing to match the wages so they are forced to keep the players on whilst they do not play. Happened with Almunia, now with Park, Squallaci and Chamakh. Possibly Djourou too.

Of course if we do pay Theo £100k a week then Oxlade Chamberlain can demand what? £80k - £90k (Wilshere? Ramsey? Vermalen?) which puts us squarely in the ridiculous category. FFS how much has Wellbeck just jacked his salary up to we cannot afford to pay players like that. £80k really should be the ceiling ATM for Theo, he may one day warrant the +£100k number but not now.

ps - I think he will stay

As for us bleeding players well we are not as big as UTD and City, cant pay the wages of Chelsea and now Liverpool (wage bill has soared in recent times I think) and so players will inevitable leave for more money or trophies. Piggy in the middle really. I think our youth policy has backfired we build up these prospects to excellent players and then they leave been the story of our life of recent.
