Do you guys think there's any significance behind the bacon Walt breaks up in the first scene? I'm talking about the scene at Denny's at the beginning of S5. In an older season he had Skyler do it for his birthday. Since he's doing it on his own might that mean he's missing Skyler? Perhaps either because he's had to abandon his family or because she's dead???

For one, the bacon serves to illustrate that a lot of time has passed (one year, basically). Furthermore, I tend to agree that it foreshadows Skyler's death and demonstrates Walt's desire to go back to how his life used to be (pre-Heisenberg). It shows that he's had time to think about things and he is at least a little remorseful.

Have you guys seen the X Files episode that Vince did with Cranston? Watching it now. Never really watched the show before

I tried to marathon the show but didn't get nearly that far in. The show as a whole seemed pretty inconsistent. Let us know if you think the episode is worth watching.

Mikes Death still stings...even tho we knew it was going to happen..it's still messed up :/
Yeah, holy hell what a fucking idiot. I was hoping at the very least Walt would tell Mike he'll take care of his granddaughter or something. Fuck. Season just took a turning point, we'll see in time if for better or worse.

The scene from End Times where Jesse goes to Walt's house and raises the gun at him... holy fuck. I didn't remember it being that good.

What do you guys think the most punishing fate is for Walt?

I'd say it'd be Hank adopting the kids, Jesse gets arrested as Heisenberg, and Walt ends up working some menial job: either a 9-5 office job or some community service under lock and key. Regarding Skylar, I'm not sure if it would hurt him more if she dies or if she leaves; it's unclear how much he'd care either way... although her choosing another man might have some extra zing to it.

off topic, but Dean Norris (Hank) was on Conan tonight. Holy crap, he's short in comparison to both Conan and Andy.

He's not a cartoon villain. Not even close. Just a dude that is way too damn prideful. You really think he wouldn't hesitate to kill Walter jr.?

he's a "normal" dude (meaning he's so colossally prideful that it's despicable) trying to be a cartoon villain. He's succeeding occasionally. failing usually. he'll collapse within the year, of course, but I see him doing something really stupid soon.

What do you guys think the most punishing fate is for Walt?

Walt loses everything and everyone. Skyler tips off Hank and then dies, Todd kills Jesse to seal off that loose end, and Hank tells Walt Jr the truth about his dad.

Then Walt finds out somebody else has devised a better way to cook even purer meth, and so even loses his product's superiority.

Extra bonus humiliation if that person is Todd.

Walt is obviously not going to kill his kids. Whether something awful happens to his family as a result of his actions up to that point is another matter.

Scene-by-scene speculation based on next week's promo:
Someone gets shanked in a prison shower: It looks like the same inmate who's ready to talk at the beginning of the promo. Todd's prison connections prove useful?

Walt/Todd hide meth in chemical drums: Fring's chicken buckets redux.

Lydia puts labels on the very same meth drums: Later in the promo, Lydia is afraid to give Walt the names of "the Nine" because she thinks Walt will kill her after he gets them. Maybe she arranges herself a job; if she can make herself indispensable, she can possibly save her life.

Jesse looks incredulously out of a window: Skyler and Jesse have shared a suspicious amount of screentime lately, so my guess is that Skyler pays him a visit. There's been a silent acknowledgement between them that they're both upset with Walt, and as Skyler just learned that Walt is working with a new guy, she may think that Jesse is her man to carry out a hit. After all, her self-resolve is stronger since getting the kids out of the house, and she's already had practice in hiring thugs to work wonders.

-- Also in the promo, Walt denies Jesse a vote in regards to killing "the Nine." This could affect Jesse's thinking if Skyler pleads her case.

Dying slowly in a hospital like his dad after having his entire empire crumble and stripped away around him leaving him a weak and feeble man unable even to care for himself, powerless and wasting away, pitied and loathed by all.

Mike, you beautiful animal :(

The way they got to his death was too contrived, but at least he died like he lived. "Shut the fuck up. Let me die in peace".

[*]Season Two Episode Six - The entire scene in the druggie house
Boy, they sure colored the life of a druggie here. I felt particularly sad for the kid. The ending too was a shocker.

This scene is sadly severely forgotten. I'm surprised you were the only to list it. Then again, this show had so many amazing scenes, it's easy to forget a single one that's in the middle of second season.

Another thing about the opens is that Season 5 has been really damn good with them this year.

Live Free or Die - we're still talking about that one, so it's a big one
Madrigal - One of my faves. All of the stupid sounding names coupled with the fancy environment and the guy's sullenness make it another one of BrBa's great dark humor moments
Hazard Pay - Probably the least exciting one, but introduces the "9 guys in jail" concept
Fifty One - BBBBBBBBB BONFIRE
Dead Freight - Showing the little boy that we've never met before here was brilliant. That way, the open is confusing enough that you don't remember much except for the train's horn. Then, when they do the heist and they show this kid that you had all but forgotten about, you know shit's going to get real. And it did.
Buyout - Definitely one of the more horrific moments in the show's history, even though there's no gore. Having the bike dismemberment be a symbol for the boy was great. Another favorite of mine.
Say My Name - awesome music, Heisenberg to the max, what's not to like?

They've knocked them out of the park this year.

Yeah, this is definitely the best season when it comes to cold opens, every single one apart from 9 guys was amazing. I think my favorite would be the last one, if only for the immediate cut from "Heisenberg." "You're damn right". CHILLS.

That happened to mad men as well, no?

Nope. Last year Mad Men got awards for Season 4 and this year they finished the season just in time for it to be eligible for this year's Emmys.

Edit: I might have missed it being posted here, but this is amazing

This makes me hate Walt just a littlebit more. The Power of Twitter™
What if he died from his gunshot wound in Mexico partaking in Fring's ridiculous revenge slaying of the entire cartel? He killed people for money, putting both his life and ability to even see his granddaughter on the line. And if he would've been smarter this season the worst wouldn't have happened. My hate's on Mike just as much as Walt. Worst grandpa ever.

Actually, he might have been a bad guy, but a bad grandpa? He seemed like a great grandfather actually.

Oh yeah, I'm sure Kaylee will be ecstatic when she finds out that good old grandpa Mike was professional murderer who chose money over being around for her. He was a bad grandpa for the same reason Walt's a bad father & husband.

Jesse at least had the decency to cut off ties with Andrea. I hope he gets out of the game and is able to go back to that life.

Breaking bad is probably one of the biggest word of mouth shows. Crazy how pretty much no one (myself included) knew about this for the first 2 or 3 seasons. I think after season 3 the word of mouth for the show sky rocketed.

also... because this season is split into two does it mean that Jesse and Walt are eligible for more emmy's?

This is what amazes me too. No one knew about this show yet it really blew up big. Dexter too. I've convinced two friends to get into it and they are hooked. The last two years really allowed for such an explosion of fans, and I think most just catch up online/with Netflix.

Walt tricked Jesse into cutting ties with Andrea. Andrea also knows Jesse is doing something illegal
