That's the club policy... I don't see what does that have to do with anything else I mentioned. If Bayern pays we can't do anything about it.. I said that before, the way Bayern has gone about it is shady.. that's all

What were they supposed to do? it's unfortunately that the press leaked the transfer but not talking about it wouldnt've been fair to their fans either. the fact of the matter is that they were always pretty honest about their intentions and the state of the negotiations. Hoeneß even admired Urrutia.

Well, actually, it's shady as fuck. Bilbao doesn't want to sell which is their right to do so and Bayern are still doing crazy shit until they get him. At the moment, it looks like Rummenigge was on phone with the Spanish FA and made sure they don't have to pay taxes to buy him free. Sure, great for Bayern, but Bilbao gets fucked over very hard by everyone.

They'll get 40 Mio out of it and if they had agreed to the transfer way earlier there would have been time to get a replacement (I know, it's harder for them) or develop a contingency plan. Bilbao fucked themselves a bit there by endlessly stalling and believing it'll work out somehow.

Pay up take the player and just shut the fuck up about it already and consider themselves lucky if we don't take them to the uefa.

They were willing to pay the 40 mio a while ago afaik (the board of directors approved) but Bilbao still tried to make it as difficult as possible and didn't agree to anything. The only options for Bayern were to back off or do the things they now did. I totally understand why you are annoyed and I would be too if it was the other way around but I don't know if I would call it 'shady'. Maybe in a few years more details of this whole thing will come to light.

A few weeks back someone thought Kermit had returned and that turned out to be wrong. I think you guys will look at every new comer the same way :P

I haven't been here long. Who exactly is Kermit? I can only gather that he was a Man City fan and that he is currently permabanned.

Kermit was very misunderstood. He provided some epic moments. My favourite was the picture he posted of his 'resurection' AKA coming back from a ban. Someone please tell me they saved that picture. Post it if you have, I'm at work but I think it's on my Mac at home. It was epic.

FootyGAF's reckoning.

OMG dc knows it's Kermit. As in he actually knows for a fact. It's like Ra's and Bane.

I actually don't think we should have spent €30m on Jovetic. That price doesn't make any sense even accepting the ludcrious financial context of football in 2012 (thanks, oil billionaires!). I'm just saying if you're going to offer that much money, do it sooner rather than later. Don't haggle over this or any other price with the top clubs that are used to directors putting the money where their mouth is.

So many of Marotta's deals are complicated loans with right-to-buy or co-ownerships or amortizations, or other feats of financial gymnastics. I feel like he's not capable of just walking into a room with the directors of a big club and saying "here is close to the money you want, now let's talk about the details". He's still got a provincial, wheeler-dealer mentality, one that is fantastic at securing competitive prices on rising stars, or at least giving us a year to assess their worth before paying the full whack, but not at closing on established quality.

And if he's not going to secure a top player, he should stop promising to do it. Aguero, Dzeko, Van Persie, Llorente, Jovetic... we've missed out on all of them.

(I also don't think we necessarily need a "pure ST" or "prima punta", and think Italy's obsession with the necessity of one is a hindrance, but that's a whole other conversation.)

This. Either put your money where your mouth is or shut the fuck up about wanting to sign a top striker. Sign Destro for 16M€, hope for the best and be done with it.

That's because we don't really have all that money or he didn't need to do all that kind of things. From what i know I don't think he promised anything, he just said that he will try to, which is different. I'm pretty sure Conte is with him about this. About Destro I'm not sure he was worthy, we already have Immobile and Gabbiadini. The only think that I really don't understand from Marotta was Padoin, that was a really weird signing. Quite happy with Berbatov if it's true.

Thankfully

He was an abusive troll who loved city. Usually brought the conversation to a screeching halt everytime he was here. People remember him fondly because he is not here now. He also PM'd abuse to people regularly.

Why should we agree to anything? The player just renewed his contract last yr. I believe there is a rule that prevents tempering with a player under 28 or maybe is 25 or something that has 3 yrs left on his contract.. at least I read it one one of the many many many articles over the past few weeks about this soap opera transfer.

Most fans in Bilbao are pissed that the players are hiding in this whole thing, instead of just coming out and say yes I want to leave.

People saying oh we get 40m.. so? we cannot get a replacement for Javi or Llorente.. there is no one in our market of that kind of quality.

That was the one funny thing he did and then the one when he got banned days later.

Yup haha!! I remember that, and then someone changed the contrast on the picture and flipped it upside down to represent the downfall of Kermit.

Man, those were the days.

The one when he got banned was much better.

A part time City fan. His support of the team included talking bollocks here on footy-GAF and watching them in the pub with about three other City fans and they all strangely have supported City ''all of their lives''. He would constantly get called out on his posts and then enlighten us all by declaring that his offensive posts were actually his own special brand of banter.

Nothing like that night a few weeks ago with the Glen gifs/Wilbury photos/and abusing spanish wrath and spanish wrath 2 on twitter.

Damn crap PC's at work. I can browse whatever the hell I want but can I right click in IE? NO! :@

Someone get that picture embedded in here.

I love the little details, the Liverpool emblem on who I presume is a crest fallen Arnie, I am in shock as my City buddy has come back. Del Piero, well I can't tell if he is happy or not.

And the bunny ears, were they Salazar's?

I'm sure a mod can check his IP and act accordingly anyway.
Loving the avatar :)

All you have to do is call his future-agent Mino.

Zabo-below: I'd gladly fork 30m for Jojo, he's on the verge of turning WC soon.

I don't get why some of you are saying Joveić isn't worth 30M€. How is a 22yo immensly talented striker & fantasista, who would take Del Piero's place in the club, not worth an addition 5-10M€? Especially given his low salary, which is the real financial burden? In the year in which we won the scudetto and the admission to CL?

Seriously. And we obviously have 30M€, if we sent Stevan's agent to Della Valle to try to convince him to let Jojo go. As I've said before, Marotta completely fucked the timings.

Again, agree with Cuddler. Padoin was signed because he's more versatile than Pazienza in that he can play in a RWB role, as he has done for us this pre/season, and he has played quite well to be fair. He's not amazing, but good backup. Which is all you can expect from a player like that. He's quiet and content with the role he's playing, and not begging for limelight.

As for Berbatov, I think he'll prove his worth. We can get a good three years out of him. In front of our midfield he'll knock them in like its nobody's business. People think he's lazy? Vucinic is night and day from his Roma days; he defends more than he ever has. Remember, Marotta signs players Conte wants. If Conte doesn't think Berbatov was too lazy to deal with the paces of playing at Juventus then we wouldn't sign him. And, in any case, we have a team full of workhorse midfielders and defenders. We don't need everyone to defend at all times. I'm sure Berbatov can press if we need him to press.

Edit: I'm just not sure Jovetic is the saviour you think he is, Zab. He's great, to be sure, but €30m is a lot of fucking money no matter how you slice it. And, in any case, who do we force out? Giovinco or Vucinic? Three players in one role doesn't make sense.

He isn't that great. And he's extremely injury prone, no?

It's forbidden for a player to break a contract if years under 28 years old and signed a new contract during the last 3 season or something like that. However, this doesnt apply to buy out clauses: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...uoGwCw&usg=AFQjCNFf7jSN18nyV90_ZrPI6TK9yGIw3w

The parties may, however, stipulate in the contract the amount that the player shall pay to the club as compensation in order to unilaterally terminate the contract (a so-called buyout clause). The advantage of this clause is that the parties mutually agree on the amount at the very beginning and fix this in the contract. By paying this amount to the club, the player is entitled to unilaterally terminate the employment contract. With this buyout clause, the parties agree to give the player the opportunity to cancel the contract at any moment and without a valid reason, i.e. also during the protected period, and as such, no sporting sanctions may be imposed on the player as a result of the premature termination76.

:lol

The best was when I found some videos of The Pig. After all the hyping up he'd done of that place I had to laugh. Makes a pre-match pint in Epsteins feel like a European semi final.

Also when we found out The Pig was a chain of pubs. He might as well have been talking about Spoons the whole time.

Jovetic had one serious injury that kept him out for a while. Hardly a Van Persie type level of fragility. He's a great player, I just can't justify spending €30m for anyone in this climate. €22-5 was about all I can justify to myself.
