Pretty sure we could.

People assume that Glazers + debt = no money to spend but should the right player become available we can afford them, within reason of course.

See below. Mike Ashley doesn't sell cheap.

Well...

Seems like Newcastle want too much.

---

YEAAAH GO NEWCASTLE.

I hope we gave them too high a fee for Cabaye as well.

If De Jong is leaving City though, they'll no doubt try for Tiote...

The thing is, I don't mind selling Tiote, because the price we sell him for will be huge. I'm talking Andy Carroll fees here.

Oh yeah like I just said above, Gerrard was an incredible player, but I fear he's lost it a little. Nowadays he's miles behind Alonso in consistency.

Best player in the world is a little far though

He's definitely lost it and more than a little. A lot of what he used to do was based on the physical side of his game and that's definitely going down the shitter.

Alonso's ninja evasion skills are superior to Scholes' alehouse punching techniques, therefore Alonso>Scholes

Alonso shit himself, Scholes would have hit him so hard Alonso would have lost all his ability and moved to 1860 Munich while elsk says he's the best player in the world

Maybe a few years ago when Scholes was in his prime. Alonso had more assists last season than Scholes has had in his last four.

His passing range and quality is undiminished. Understandably, he just doesn't have the legs to impact the game as much as he once did; which is why you see him stroking the ball wide so much, however precise his vision. Against PL sides that don't press United's midfield, Scholes controls the game with ease - four goals in a half-season spell is a decent return for the kind of midfielder he's become.

Oops, I guess I was thinking of Clichy's fee. I was thinking de Jong was rather inexpensive as well (less than €10m) but it looks like it was obviously quite a bit higher (£18m). A Hughes special I suppose.

With six months left on his contract nevertheless. :)

Apparently he had verbally agreed on a new deal though. Still, insane.

40 millions for javi martinez is ridiculous dude's worth 25 millions at the most.

and? it's not like Bayern doesnt know it, matter of fact Hoeneß / Heynckes and Rummenigge even said that he's realistically worth 20 to 25m. You still have to pay 40m to get him and Bayern obviously was willing to do so.

Saw this from a Spurs fan on Facebook.

Well, at least it might not be 0/5!

City paid £18m for Nigel de Jong?

Wat.

The strange thing about that fee is that he was signed in January and apparently his contract was due to expire just six months later.

Actually looking at old stories it looks like - ''The midfielder had a clause in his contract that would have allowed him to leave Hamburg in the summer for £1.8m. ''

I always felt Scholes was unfortunate to be born English. With his skills, he could have been an international legend as well as a domestic one, but no English manager ever recognized the central role he could have played.

You sound like a supervillain :P
I would like to be a contract related super villain. Preventing RVP joining United and such.
The reports are that he won't be sold, but he won't sign a new contract either.

Guess we'll find out over the next couple of days but it doesn't sound convincing to me.
If it didn't happen for previous contract rebels who were more valuable to the club you can bet it won't happen this time.

As mentioned above, the contract with Hamburg had been agreed, just not completely finalized.

Still, insane, should've gone for someone else. But Hughes being Hughes, probably screamed he wanted him and no one else. Like Santa Cruz.

There's no way Arsenal won't listen to offers, and almost certainly either us or City will put in a bid.

Could be wrong, but I reckon this is just posturing. He will go.

If his contract was due to expire in six months, you can legally pre-sign him for free. What the fuck City?

Also, Pirlo is a demi-god, you infidels.

He apparently delayed signing a new contract last season so he could see if we got CL football. It doesn't sound likely he would want to join Liverpool

United U-21 team v Spurs: Lindegaard, Wootton, M Keane, Evans, Buttner, Fletcher, Tunnicliffe, Powell, Brady, King, Macheda

No start for Henriquez then but Fletcher and Evans play which is excellent to see :D

Just finished watching "Two Cathedrals", the season 2 finale of The West Wing.

Its one of the single best episodes of television ever.

Dat Bartlett.

There was a brief period during the Euros, lasting about 120 minutes, when English football fans realized Pirlo was one of the five best players of the last decade, and then they promptly went and rationalized away his effortless superiority somehow.

QPR in talks with Granero. :lol :lol :lol

They are seriously buying anyone and everyone. I really fucking hope they go down and it will be truly hilarious seeing all of these 'big' players fall with them. Sans Ji Sung Park. WHY DAMN YOU WHYYYYYYY.

1) It's ignorant to assume such ignorance. We watch CL football, we know Pirlo is good.

2) Messi, Ronaldo, Iniesta and Xavi have 1-4 on lock so I'm not 100% sure Pirlo is #5.

3) Serious question - You think you'd honestly think that if he was still at Milan?

I hope they have got pay deduction clauses in all these contracts. But I kinda don't think they have. I can't see the likes of Julio Cesar agreeing to take a pay cut if they get relegated.

2) I agree with two of those.

3) You're confusing Shake with me here :p

Pirlo was always class, it's not taboo to admire Milan's players. ;)

Oh FFS. Rumours now that Savic may not want to go the other way as part of this Nastiman deal.

Just bang him out on loan in the championship if he doesn't and plough on signing this guy. You never know, we may have a #SavNastFuture

Which two? (And by the by, if you picked 5 which 5 would they be.)

As for the other point, haha, maybe...but naturally football fans see things very differently once a player plays for their club. People were talking about Scholes vs Alonso earlier, in my mind it's immediate - Scholes is/was better - but I can see why a fan of another club, and obv. Liverpool, could see that differently. We can't help it.

I bet you youth players the world over can't wait to get to City. Couple of bad games, GTFO or go to the Championship.

1. Jokes.
2. Don't know about on lock, but I'd probably take those four. And Pirlo probably wouldn't be #5 out of those.
3. Yes, though I would be more jealous, whereas these days I'm just delighted he's spending his twlight years with us.

According to Di Marzio, Berbasex to Juve is done. An agreement has been found with United over the payment method (5M€).

WELCOME TO JUVE, DIMITAR!
