I still can't believe people are defending virtual sticks in any capacity that isn't trolling. Have played 10+ games where people say they aren't that bad and found the games a disaster at every turn.

I'd want to control a game like bastion with virtual sticks as much as I would want to control 10000000 with a controller, or play starcraft 2 multiplayer with a kinect, or play infinity blade with a wiimote. Could technically function but I can't imagine why anyone would intentionally do that.

I mean in Bastions case it even runs in a damn browser, it's not like this ios version is the only place to get it without buying an xbox360 at least then it would be a tiny bit understandable to me.

Whoa, just saw that MLG now has sponsored competitions for Nova 3 and Modern Combat 3.

I loved Nova 2's multiplayer but haven't gotten Nova 3 cause of the reports of bad framerate and such. Should I get Nova 3 if I'm in it mostly just for the multiplayer and have only an iPhone 4?

Stay away from it. Or at least wait for a sale. Framerate is inconsistent on my iPad 2, let alone a iPhone 4.

So you are mad because people are enjoying Bastion on iOS, with virtual pads even? Okay. :)

It's ok if you couldn't adapt to virtual controls (I say controls, because my stick isn't virtual). Some people can. I'm actually really good with them, and they don't really bother me when well implemented. As a matter of fact, I found the controls to be much better than keyboard + mouse for this game.

Man, fuck M&KB controls. I can't stand all those redundant keys and the shitty limited movement from the WASD keys. I hate how twitchy mice are and how they're rarely optimised for left-handed people. There's no comfortable way to play on M&KB that comes close to a dual analogue.

The only people that defend that spreadsheet-controlling nonsense are trolls. Or people with a personal preference different to my own.

(I won't pretend that virtual sticks are optimal, because they aren't. I certainly find them bearable when done correctly though).

Not mad at all, just baffled. I can't imagine any scenario where people playing games could make me angry unless I was having surgery and my dr wanted to take a break to check his farmville or something equally absurd, or someone on the highway wanted to let go of the wheel next to me and play some dungeon raid on their phone.

Try sucking less. If lots of people say controls are acceptable and they don't work for you, it maybe means you're not suited to this platform, or more specifically not suited to certain games on the platform. As I've said before, I've completed many many games with the virtual sticks. I got used to them, they're not a barrier for entry for me any more.

I'm going to play Bastion on iPad because I think it'll be a good commute game, and becuase I do 90% of my gaming on my iPad. I don't want to play it in my browser. To me, touch controls are infinitely more acceptible than kb+m. This might not be the case for you, but understand that you are not the only person in the world.

Try sucking less? Uhhhh ok? I don't think I've ever found the games I've tried with virtual sticks were ever hard. Not sure what you're getting it at all but have fun?

edit:

Any word on expansions for Puzzlecraft or 10000000? Was going to just delete them off the ipad but wasn't sure if anything was in the works.

There you go. If you try any of those three and still think virtual sticks will always get in the way of a fun experience then the platform, especially the iphone which is comfortable to hold, just isn't for you.

Anyone know when Phoenix Wright HD will be out? We're currently playing through them on the DS... just got to the end of the first game (pretty much anyway) - would you recommend waiting for the iOS version, or stick with the DS ones?

Cheers

There are far better examples though. Fighting games is the one genre I can't seem to adapt with touch controls. Other than that I'll play anything.

Never played those three.

Only have an ipad now because I swapped my iphone for a galaxy note (wanted the bigger screen size and wanted to be able to manage content fast so I could uninstall itunes from my pc).

I could never comfortably hold the iphone with 2 hands, was just too small. Outside of trying a few games that required it the amount of times I've held a phone with 2 hands is tiny. I even played infinity blade 1/2 one handed.

Expansions? I'm still waiting on a bugfix for Puzzle Craft so there's no risk of me losing a save game again... if I decide to fire it up again.

Finally spent some quality time with Bastion and my iPad 3.
I had tears of joy after the first big boss fight.

I hugged my iPad.

I left some more impressions in the OT but I felt the need to repeat it here...

OH BOY, what the heck of a work they did!!!

I hope the game skyrocket fast to the top spots of the AppStores, they became incredibly rich and an example for many other developers.

I wouldn't mind Diablo 3 now :P

(Yes I have a 360 too and I much prefer playing it on my iPad, virtual controls, framedrops and all the rest)

Watching the colorful world building BETWEEN MY HANDS, laying in bed with headphones is quite an experience.
I do not mind if I can't headshot a monster on the other side of the screen due to lack of precision...I just want to sink in this world and enjoy this strange story.

Supergiants, clap clap clap.

What can an iPad do that a NetBook can't, huh?!

Seriously? Run Quicken. That's the one app I need before making the transition off a home Windows laptop and onto iPad. Having an iPhone, I'm bought in already, I just need that app. And yes, I've tried all the money management iOS things. I do it once a year, actually, just to try new versions to see if anyone has cracked the code yet. Nope.

Sorry to hijack the thread.
I could use some advice about headphones.
I'm not a purist so no 1K wooden headphones :P

I was looking even at wireless SMALL headphones (small, like the normal iPhone headphones, not the cup ones)...I know they generally suck but is there anything worthy recently?
I just want to get rid of the cable, I play in bed in every sort of position and it bothers me (not even mentioning wife :P).

Can't wait to get back playing Bastion!!!

So you're looking for wireless earphones? Then this is something you might be interested in: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6187/...o-review-almost-the-perfect-bluetooth-earbuds

If you just want wired earphones, the sub-$100 ones from Shure, Sony, or Sennheiser are all great (tried them personally.)

Yeah, i haven't been to into gaming on this thing. But having a big title like bastion work makes me look forward to more titles like this. Infinity blade dungwons is what i really want.

I'm going to keep iPad around for what it does best though, stuff like casual games and board games.

its fantastic for board games. When we went on holiday recently we wanted to take some board games in case of bad weather, and we could pretty much manage with just the ipad (forbidden island, carcassone, ticket to ride, labyrinth, boggle). Saved a ton of space.

Bastion has climbed from #34 highest grossing to #21 highest grossing (UK Store). I wish I knew what that actually meant but it has to be positive.

Ah, I was only kidding. Just riffing off the 2008 theme.

I wish I was responsible enough to manage my money. I just aim to earn more than I spend.

Hi folks. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I figured it would be preferable to making a thread.

I got my hands on a Sprint 12.0 iPhone 4 that is currently not activated. From what I've read, this one is particularly difficult to unlock/jailbreak. What are my options?

Did anyone recommend Dynamite Jack yet? If not, I'm doin it right here, right now!
Still on sale for 0.99 as well!

Buy it, feel it, love it!

Apparently Final Fantasy Dimensions is out in the NZ Store too.

I do not know if it's crap or not, but what a week.

What is this Dimensions thing then? Am I right in thinking it's an FF4 style episodic rpg? Sounds interesting but I think I'll skip, there are already enough FF games I've not played and I really don't like the art style for 4 and 5. 6 on the other hand is lovely looking.

I agree 100% with this. I bought this on Xbox, but couldn't bring myself to play it. These games just don't grab me with a controller, and I always wished that this would come out for the iPAD. This game controls marvelously on my iPAD! I have no frame of reference for comparison, but I love how it feels.

I can't hope for Diablo 3 because Blizzard hasn't given ANY hints about what they want to do with the platform, but I really REALLY hope that this sends a message to the Torchlight guys. . I've bought it on STEAM and XBOX and just haven't wanted to play it with those interfaces.

Supergiantgames...WOW at keeping this a secret, and WOW at pulling this off so damned spectacularly! Congrats at their success, and may they never go below $5.00!

Finally, after two weeks of 5 minute sessions:

Fantastic game :D

I haven't been playing lately, pretty sure I am fully leveled up but I can't get very close to 10M, I really suck at these types of games.

Any special potions or anything you used to make it?

Only picked the game up this morning, I feel like I've just been spoilt :(

Congrats though!

It's a puzzle game, c'mon, there are no spoilers for that :p

No, didn't use any potions for score, only those that give more gold and experience instead of wood and stone.

Sup everybody, the update for Brainsss is out. If you bought the game, download the update. We've added a bunch of requested features: zoom in and zoom out, saving zombie selections, and zombie heroes.

We dropped the price to 99 cents for a limited time and there's now a free version up for people who would like to try the game.

Heh, that's what I figured. It's a sore subject with me, though. I simply don't understand why it is I'm able to find A+++++ versions of every app, utility, and game I could possibly need or want on iOS. EXCEPT money management. The combo of a checkbook view and downloading/scheduling transactions (and seeing future transactions in the checkbook view) simply does not exist on iOS and it annoys me to no end.

Even the Mac version of Quicken is an unrepentant shitpile, so my hopes of a competent version coming to iOS are dim. My only real hope is maybe they're working on a web version of Quicken that will work with everything.

Noooooo! Bastion requires 5.1 fuckfuckfuckfuck! I'm Jailbroken, how do I go about updating my OS, and can I jailbreak again afterwards? Emulators are more important to me than one game.

I'm on 5.1.1 and jailbroken on my iPad 2. You can jailbreak 5.1, but you'll need to update through iTunes then jailbreak meaning you'll lose all your emulators and have to re-download them. I don't know if there's another way, but I'm sure a quick Google search will bring something up.

I don't mind redownloading but I need to make sure I keep my saves for the emulated games, I would cry bitter salty tears if I have to restart FF6. I've backed up all my saves though and can update through the iPad.

Wish me luck people, I'm scared.

(I'm scared because in the past every time I update an iDevice SOMETHING will cock up somewhere...)
