The list of players we had a realistic chance of signing yet never did for various reasons is long and annoying to read. Two that stand out are looking to sign Ronaldo before he went to United (everything agreed except personal terms, we wouldn't give him the terms he wanted so he turned us down), and Dani Alves (he was offered to us for £8 million, we said £7 million and wouldn't budge, so we didn't get him. Ridiculous that we missed out on him over £1 million, if indeed the story is true).

We could have signed Ronaldo as well.

To be fair that was never really the aim this window, maybe a couple of first-team defenders but I suspect Pardew's main aim at the start was holding on to our stars. We've done that. I think I'm disappointed because we've been actively trying to do business (Luuk, Debuchy, Douglas, Carroll) but haven't secured any.
