Halo 4: A Hero Awakens (10 Minute Singleplayer ViDoc)

I admire their desire to try and tell a story within a FPS, I like the Halo Universe but it was the pretentious twaddle they were spouting in the video that irked me, obviously not the story itself (game is not out yet).

So to reiterate, I like Halo, the Universe and the games ....... what I found lolworthy was the pretentious, overinflated language and tone of the video in regards to the story they wished to tell in a game in which the greatest tool for interaction is a gun.

I love FPS games, I love good FPS games (which obviously includes Halo) and I enjoy the Halo characters and Universe.

But this video to me smacked of the same tone as the Polygon video.
I guess they're just very passionate about their work. I understand what you mean though.

What is this Polygon video you are talking about btw?
Don't have Halo buddies :(
me neither, but you can play spartan ops alone or just use the matchmaking.
and i think there will be more than enough people here that want to play, once the game is released.
HaloGAF has fans of both Campaign and MP, there will be people there for you. No need to worry. Some people still do ODST FF achievement runs.

Didn't think I could get excited about a new Halo like I used to, but after that video, I'm boarding the hypetrain. And I like it.

halo gaf scares me....
;)

That was the most boring ViDoc I have ever seen. Halo 4 has voice actors, who knew? Still not hyped for this game (I have already pre-ordered it though so none of this even matters).

Now I'm getting super excited for halo 5

The cortana rampancy story line should become very unsettling... I hope 343 doesn't hold back

WOW, this looks really impressive!

I bet they're going to fix her in Halo 4

Lol I will be pissed if that happens

Tease for 3 games then solve it in 1 before she becomes a problem

Her becoming a threat, friends turning on each other would be a fascinating plot

Look at all these cutscenes! Performance capture! Our budget!

Show show in-game storytelling, and then maybe I'll be impressed. The score does sound amazing, though, who's the composer?

Wait you're mad that a game like halo... One of the pioneers of in-game story telling, wasn't showing anything with in game storytelling? The game is basically built on a ton of in game story telling (with cortana, especially)

Neil davidge is the composer

At the beginning, I kind of felt like everyone in the video was overselling what they were doing, but by the end of it, I was completely onboard the hype train. You could probably even sell me on map packs that'll never show up in rotation, 343i.

Just watched it a while ago, 343i is really making huge strides in showing that their first attempt behind the reigns won't hold anything back to ensure the fans that Halo 4 will be something special. Love it.

ViDoc means video documentary, or is this the first time you've seen one for anything?

Some of the comments are so dense in here. And to the other dense comments, yes people, they're making documentaries about their games, because that's what you call care for your franchise and fans. Not really that hard to get.

Looking sexy.

It's amazing how taking physical acting on is really driving game storytelling, but you do have to wonder how much it's pushing up the budgets for triple-A titles.

so i guess you missed all of the first person narrative sequences then? (the fight with the elite, the didact scanning the forward unto dawn, and the phantoms crashing)

What 343 is doing technically on 6 year old hardware is unbelievable. I feel similarly with what Kojima is doing on PS3 with Ground Zeroes. Even through I have moved to my PC for the latest games I will be perfectly happy playing these on their respective consoles.

And it can not be mentioned enough, the production values of Halo 4 are simply spectacular.

Can not wait for this game.

Ground zeroes will be on 360 also.

Think people are selling Bungie short here, they did plenty of technically impressive work (and yes, 3's character models had serious issues).

That was on a PC with a 360 controller, what does the PS3 have to do with the GZ footage we've seen. They've said current & next gen, but really anything could happen.

This is the only reason I still have a shitBOX. Seriously, besides this franchise, Microsoft has nothing. Commence hate parade.

Seriously what the hell is wrong with juniors these days? shitBOX? really? :lol

Back on topic Halo 4 looks absolutely amazing, looks like 343i have something very special on their hands.

Is it wrong that I'm more hyped for this because it reminds me of Metroid? I hate the competitive side of the Halo games, but Firefight and co-op play are just unmatched.

I like it. I always felt like there was a huge missed opportunity in halo to tell an interesting story in a more fleshed out way, but there's always been that minimalist 'pick it up from the cues' bullshit cop out. I hate when a developer tells me that if i want to know more about the story of a game that i should buy the books.

So good

If half the attention spent on making her hip area look so nice was spent on her hair, she might be attractive.

As for the game, wow. That looks really really nice. Hopefully it won't result in a crap framerate. Also, any good pre-order bonuses for this? I wish Microsoft would jump on board the Day 1 Digital release train already.

I'm sorry but you can't compare this ViDoc to the Polygon video. That's bullshit. The vidoc is entirely about the game, there's nothing pretentious about it. If you're a Halo fan, it's a great look inside.

It is about the game, the game looks awesome ...... but the language and the tone of the video is overblown and pretentious.

In my opinion.

The campaign is going to be a real treat. 343 is giving the characters and lore the attention and detail it deserves.

I must say, I wince at all the campaign praise for something that didn't talk about the gameplay. Praise the narrative sure, I know I am.

I can see what you're saying, but I see it in a lot of AAA titles, so surely you feel similar about the AC3, UC3 etc behind the scenes trailers?

Amazing... It's almost criminal that this game actually looks like this and still has the large scale features that the Halo series does.

One part that really impressed me was this:

When the light pass through the cylinders it looks like they are perfectly rounded... They are pushing tons of geometry if that's really the case.

Indeed I do feel the same and I wonder for whom is this pretentiousness is aimed at?

Yeah, they talk big about character development and attaching me to the characters, but I've heard that a million times before, so I'll wait to see what it's really like.

That said, this game looks bananas. I ditched Xbox more than two years ago despite being an enormous Halo fan, thinking I could live without Halo until it comes to PC (lol). Then 343i HAD to make me buy another and resub to Live just for this :(

At least I'm having tons of fun playing Reach instead of studying this year.

Whatever, I just don't see it.

Anyway, I don't think I've been this hyped for a Halo campaign ever before. I'm just so interested in seeing what all this new stuff is.

Don't films do the exact same thing and get away with it. I think you are confusing pretension with passion.

Kind of interesting how a few of the posters who had criticized the MP trailer, sometimes trying to cover it up with a half hearted compliment, are nowhere to be seen in this thread =p

I am just telling it like it is; a disgrace to every Xbox Bro out there.

Problem is you're making assumptions without anything to back it up, and no posting pictures does not support your opinion.

Halo 3 was developed during a hardware transition (part of it was designed on the OG xbox). Time and resources are always limited and it looked like bungie's engineers worked on features such as saved films instead of massively improving their content creation pipeline (good call if you ask me since humans play a comparitively minor role in halo 3). Meanwhile we have 343i, who are developing Halo 4 at the tail end of this gen, who benefit from not only all the progress Bungie has made with the tech, but also the advancements the rest of the industry has made in the last 7 years since good studios don't develop in a vacuum. And again, a new art team will also bring a fresh take on the graphics, which is a major contribution to the results.

In no way am I trying to downplay 343i's accomplishments here, it looks great, but there are logical reasons for these things and I'm sure they would tell you something similar.

HigherArc, when you have that many gifs, it's better to link them then dump them all in one post.

Agreed, the gif spamming is too much. It's not like games ever look as good as the gif implies they will anyways, which is why I usually question their use.
