Can anyone play in the phantom drafts on MTGO or is it only new players? I don't see many to join and the ones that are there require the 1 new player ticket. Unless I'm looking in the wrong area.

Also I don't remember having a Shards Of Alara Block foil booster pack in my collection but one is there now unopened. Was this a free promo of some sort? I haven't been on in ages.

MTGO ID: daevv

Are there bots on MTGO that buy packs for tickets? So if you come second place in an 8-4 you can draft again for 'free'?

I use CardBoosterBot cause they usually have the highest buy price. Just now, I sold 6 M13 for 3.51 tix each, and they're selling for 3.61.

Of course, shop around, but I find this bot is always up there in terms of low sell and high buy.

Which is higher +EV to draft/open on MTGO? AVR or INN? Have one of I/D/A and don't know which way to convert em.

I believe Swiss has the best EV unless you are rocking like a 60%+ win rate in that specific draft format, in which case you will do 8-4. Problem with Swiss is that you play 3 games... and if you win 3 games then you get a prize of 3 boosters. Then you just end up down 2 tickets. If you want to come out positive at all, you'll have to do an 8-4 draft and make it to finals.

I think AVR sells for 3.99 tix and buys for 3.95 on CardBoosterBot.

From MarlonBot (selling prices):
Avacyn Restored Booster AVR 4.10
Innistrad Booster ISD 3.99
Dark Ascension Booster DKA 2.75

I still can't understand how they can sell for more than wizards is selling for avacyn when you can purchase it in the shop still.

For one, lots of people operate entirely on tickets because they've either won their way into playing MTGO and have tonnes of tickets, or opened up like 5 bonfires and sold them all for tickets.

Also, taxes in some locations make it cost more than $4.11, so it's still cheaper. (5% tax is already $4.20). It also means that you don't have to go through a credit card transaction/paypal which might take a few hours to clear before you get the product.

Then again, for AVR, it would be cheaper to pay 16 tickets to enter, but some people have 1 or 2 boosters they'd like to draft with, so buying one or two more would be slightly cheaper and more convenient. Not that everyone has 16 tickets lying around to enter the draft either.

Ah, third draft of the day, opponent has me dead on board, and he scoops on my bluff attack that will take him to 1.

BTW, does anyone here who drafts on MTGO ever check to see what card they own the most copies of? I find it to tell me alot about my drafting. I own 14 Crippling Blights, 7 Arms Dealers, and 12 Farie Invaders. I've only done something like 10-12 M13 drafts as well

I just preordered 3 Jace 4.0 @ $25 each. Most expensive card I've ever done that for, but I dont think I'll see that price again anytime soon.

Not sure if he'll go higher than that but doubt he'll be lower than 20 during his time in standard.

I have 3 boxes coming too along w/ the Pre-Releases/PTQ season, so this one annoys me. This is just a card I can't afford to not have immediately available when the set hits.

What kind of deck are you thinking of using him in? UW?
Depends on if there's a sweeper in there. U/R going Signet->Jace->Tamiyo seems pretty good. But still a lot of stuff to be revealed. B/G PW should be up Wednesday w/ awesome Gorgon art.

Star City has the shock lands up for pre-order at 10 bucks each.... which bodes well for them being pretty adorable. Cards almost never end up more expensive than Star City's pre-order prices.

Will be great for EDH

That's about what I was expecting them to level at (though potentially a bit more for blue ones). There will be more demand for them, but there will be a ridiculous amount of product opened, so supply will be huge.

Plus, without fetchlands, they really aren't 4-ofs, like the M10/INN and the Scars lands were. Of course, if the next block has fetches, these are going to skyrocket

What? that's cheap! I'm so snapping all the U-related shocks!

Without a good way to cheat him out he seems a bit underwhelming. But maybe there will be some crazy acceleration.

Okay, more and more looking at these mana costs it looks like they're deliberately trying for a slower format.

He also seems like a pretty spicy Sneak Attack target. Then again, I know basically nothing about Legacy, so I'm probably wrong about that. :)

You're definitely not wrong at all. I mean, Emrakul is still A1, but this would make a good second option. Even if countered (Which Emrakul can't be) the wurm leaves substantial fuckery behind.

Hate cards do very little on their own to stop a single card. That's why we're seeing a metric ton of them. Not reprinting Ranger of Eos in M13 is looking like a weirder and weirder decision by the day, though.

Unless it's a 1 drop that hoses 3 very popular archetypes with a hybrid mana that allows it to be played in damn near any deck and has an ability that's passive. It also singlehandly destroys Golgari's mechanic.

Golgari's new mechanic appears exclusively on critters.

Not every deck wants a one drop.

This card will also teach people about how spells resolve and when damage kills creatures! Because if you kill it with a Lightning Bolt the Bolt ends up exiled. But if you kill it with a Murder, the Murder goes to the graveyard.

Shocks? Prices falling? I don't think so. Shocks are played in Eternal and Standard.

Originally, before Modern came out, Shocks were priced at ~US$10 apiece. Then Modern was announced, and prices shot up sky high. I don't really see it going below US$10 each.
