Is Minecraft worth getting for iPad after the latest update?

Just got it on the iPhone and from my first impressions: very much so yes. It's getting closer and closer to 'real' Minecraft, love having it on my phone. (in fact, some features, like the crafting list etc, I'd love to see added to the PC version)

What the differences between the PC and iOS version?

So, guys

I'm still not really interested in owning an iOS device, but my mom just got herself an iPhone 4, and I figure there are probably at least a handful of games I should get (for me, not her).

Let's say... three. Which three games should I try? Stuff that isn't available on anything else, of course (Android excepted).

EDIT: also, to clarify, I don't want social-y games that you play over long periods of time, since it's not even my phone!

I give you until update 50-60 before you go and buy the game. The iOS version has a lot of nice updates (crafters always maxed, since you max them out anyway) , much slicker interface, and super high resolution. Easily worth the $4.00 than the PC version just released over on GoG.

If there is ever a backport of the iOS assets to the PC though, I'd totally double dip.

I had fun today, in my first year I reorganized my clan leadership, conducted a cattle raid, learned a new mystery, dealt with a smoothtalker getting one of the noble's girls pregnant and fouling up an arranged marriage, defended against horsemen, and explored the area near my land.

You never know what you are going to get out of a game of King of Dragon Pass, or when the choices you make come back to get you. That's what makes it so great.

I love this game. Currently I have some ugly motherfucker in my clan who has been married like 6 times and each time we shop him around to other clans he is eventually taken but, a short while later he is disowned because of his ugliness.

In one of my other games I had a group out exploring the far reaches of the map when they were abducted by some sorcerer who was made out of hands. Yes, hands. Well before the group could escape, my expedition leader had his hand cut off. A short while after coming home I had the option to send another group to go rescue my dudes hand. Killed the sorcerer and took the hand back!

Also learn life lessons when trying to launch a legal claim against a ghost :(

The game is sooo worth the price and it is now even better with it being optimized for the ipad.

And sold even more than I was before! I'm almost ready to cash in on another 10 dollar GC from myfreeapps and this is what I'm going to get with it!

Already have S&S on Steam, but I'll check out those other two, thanks! :)

Also, hmm, I've been trying to hunt down a cheap DS copy of Ghost Trick for a while, but maybe I'll grab it for iOS. I'll think about it...

I've been playing Mikey Shorts lately. Fun game, and there's going to be a new update coming out with more stuff. I think more challenge levels actually.

I'm not a text game fan but I know Kingdom of Dragon Pass gets rave reviews. Anyone want to explain to me the appeal? Why it's so great? How you even play?

Is there any reason to get the HDMI adapter instead of using an Apple TV w/ Mirroring? Are they the exact same now?
I have done a lot of testing in this area, to keep things simple:

AirPlay can be slightly choppy even when sitting over your wireless network, Ethernet to The apple tv helps a little but you still go wireless from the iPad/iPhone. Limited to 30 fps when it is smooth and the image compression has noticeable edges to things. You also get some noticeable latency.

The hdmi adapter is just like your devices screen but in 720p or 480, it's able to show 60fps and image quality Is much cleaner.

I have used AirPlay for a few months but now my apple tv is packed up and I use the hdmi adapter with a long cable.

Thank you! I'm going HDMI adapter. For now at least. I like that I can go from room to room with it as well.

If you're into strategy games:

Ravenmark
Starbase Orion
King of Dragon Pass

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll look into them! I think I'll pass on Angry Birds Space though, not really my thing :(

I also just remembered I should check out Terry Cavanagh's new game, apparently it's on sale right now?

I have both but aTV is much more convient for me, not having to be tethered.
The cable has less lag (ie non existent) in games when AirMirroring.

I use aTV mainly to watch movies stored in my NAS, using my iPhone or iPad as 'bridge', no PC with iTunes required.
You can even continue using your device while firing the movie at the TV.
Pretty handy imho.

You may want to check your WiFi network.
I have the same setup and no problems whatsoever streaming even high bitrate movies from NAS to aTV via iPhone (so it's a 2-way connection).
I had some problems when using an iTunes computer to share the library but now it's damn perfect.
Connecting aTV to cable reduce the initial buffering (at most I saw 10 seconds for over 10Gb BR rip).

I have an AiportExpress, an external Lacie 1 Terabyte HD connected via USB with my whole library, aTV and iOS devices connected via WiFi.
I use FileBrowser to beam movies directly to aTV, I hate using the PC in the middle.

Oh i'm sure it works rather well for movies and video, I only used it for games I should add, tested it with everything I have such as Real Racing, Air Supremacy, Chaos and Order etc, action games take the biggest hit as button presses will delay by a few frames, racing games work the best.

Interestingly you can make nova 3 run about 60fps in places with HDMI out.

Oh sorry, didn't understood you meant games!
Yes there is added lag and racing games work best here too.
Having an iPad I must say that, gaming wise, it's not a feature I use that much.

Loving Super Hexagon, I don't even know why, but I'm incredibly addicted too it.

Also, Oh hi! Octopi! isn't that bad, although it takes awhile to get the hang of it.

Any decent Game magazines on the iPad worth getting?

Seemed to remember last month a new iPad gaming specific one launching a couple of months back but cannot for the life of me remember what it's called.

Only just bought an iPad 3 so may very well be asking a few questions over the next few days on recommendations and tricks/tips for it.

iGamer?

Anyway, you can't go wrong with EDGE and Game Informer.

I started playing the Avengers Initiative game. It's....ok. IT's like they took the mechanics of IB but didn't put any of the polish to it. Hulk's model looks great-but the background textures are very bland.

Finally broke 10,000m in Jetpack Joyride and I'm still only ranked around #1,500. How did people get to 30km?
I assume it was through hacking since everyone in the top spots are at exactly 30,000. Or does the game just end/crashes at 30k?

Mario - you won. My wife saw a Twang the Fox ad in Monster Swap and bought it. I was trying to hold out long enough to get all of your games for free from this thread :P
