Why not leave him be if he's happy with it?

Yeah, that's always a debate I have with myself, when I find out a friend has just purchased an Apple product that I KNOW will be updated very soon. 2 friends today told me they just bought a 13" MBP. I debated whether to let them know that there's a chance a redesigned new one's coming out very soon, but ultimately decided against them, as I realized they were very excited about their purchase and all I would do it irritate and confuse them over what they should do. In the end, the benefits of getting an updated model for them may not outweigh the stress and the hassle of waiting, wondering, returning etc. Best let them be satisfied with an enjoy their purchase.

On another note, anyone planning to do a media blackout then watching the uploaded keynote virgin style? I'm planning to do that if I have the willpower. There's few things in life more enjoyable to me then watching an Apple keynote and being genuinely surprised throughout.

So how do phone launches work? Do you pre order or something? I'm up for renewing my verizon contract and have a Droid 2, which I actually love because of the slide out keyboard, to the point that I've held off for 6 months on a new phone. I still want something newer though.

So is there a period you can return a verizon phone if you don't like it? Also wondering what's the deal with flash/watching videos. I've also looked at the newest android stuff, but I don't want a phone that big.

Will they be able to transfer my contacts from a Droid 2 to an iphone 5? Will pricing be the same as if I got a 4s today?

Two days to go…

This is what I do every keynote. Since it airs at 3am where I am I just wake up at 7am resist the urge to check my phone and go to the spoiler free thread / keynote checker that I'll have bookmarked the previous night on macrumors. The direct feed link is normally up by then.

I then watch it unfold "live" and go to the Apple site after for the porn shots / spec list.

Then it's spending a few hours catching up on the 50+ pages on GAF for the real entertainment.

Would you ask david blaine to explain his levitation trick?
I can tell you how he does it. He stands on one foot at an angle. That is the trick. Otherwise it was editing and camera trick but the basic trick is incredibly simple (though not always easy to do, the person watching it has to be at the perfect angle so that it looks like levitation).

Sounds like a good plan. Keeping up with live feed/ live commenting on forums during the live event might be fun in some ways, but also dilutes the event and u also gotta trudge through a lot of bullshit. Wuod rather watch the event, come to my won conclusions without websites x & y telling me whether I should be disappointed or not, then go to apple.com for all the official info, then finally peruse all the opinionated bullshit across the web for shits and giggles. Still remember reading though this thread during 2007 iphone keynote..,epic shit.

I can't even imagine using an iPhone without a jailbreak TBH. It's been forever since I've had to go jailbreak-less.

Everytime I use a non-jailbroken iPhone I feel like I'm back in the dark ages in terms of convenience. It's actually a weird reason I want to stick with iOS; the jailbreaking/modding community is very dedicated and takes care of much of the slack and stuff Apple should have had ages ago. A lot of the reason why Android looks appealing to me is a lot of the customization options are more readily accessible or built into the UI already as they should be, but then again I don't know if the community is as dedicated or not.

How people live without SBSettings I don't know. At least apple brought LockInfo/Notifications to the masses, even if it was 3 years late.

I think I already asked this but, are there any concrete details/evidence of a new design for the iPod Touch? I'm about to sell my 32GB 4G because I'm expecting one.

I believe just case leaks? Which are somewhat reliable, though not always. But it's expected. Nothing is 100% until apple says it though.

Oh the Android modding community is amazing, very dedicated people and they support older phones way longer than oems.

When I decided to stop jailbreaking my phone (was having random issues with it) I thought I'd mis SSB settings, and never did. Once I learned I don't HAVE to obsessively turn off all the wireless hardware I'm not using, it's not a big deal. You survive, and I don't feel like I'm missing anything. If anything, I feel like I don't have to worry about it anymore.

SBsettings was gold. BiteSMS was my essential jailbreak app - being able to reply without leaving the app was great. The current method is so tedious.

It definitely is useful when I want to turn 3G on/off when I'm on the go without it absolutely destroying my battery life. Now that you can integrate it with Notification Centre it's even more useful. I probably use SBSettings 15+ times each day. Perhaps less of a problem on newer devices, but I am OCD about conserving battery life.

can i JB my iphone 4s yet? and how hard is it to use it as a hotspot?
Google Absinthe. Check the wiki page for jailbreaking for more information.

My iPhone 4 finally packed it's shit and died last night. Feels fucking miserable not being able to use it, really feels like one of those times where you had taken something for granted lol.

I've now got a week and a bit until the suspected launch of the iPhone 5, so I called up the Apple Store nearest to me (Sydney) and asked about how they usually handle launches. He suggested rather than fight off die-hard fans on day 1, to call up and make a reservation for next day pick up/set up contract. Anyone got advice/experiences?

I'm going to flip a table if I miss out.

Can someone help me? I read on here that if you send in your iphone by October 1st, Gazelle will still give you a good price or something? How do I get that October 1st deal? I've never sold my phone to anything other than individual people I know personally so this is brand new to me. I did the price thing on gazelle and they said I'd get 160 for my iphone 4 which I think is a great deal. I just don't want that deal to go away once the new iPhone drops.

Did you even look on their site?

Note: Offers for iPhones quoted between August 20, 2012 and August 31, 2012 are locked in until October 1, 2012. This means your package must be handed to a shipping carrier employee for shipment on or before October 1, 2012 for the offer to remain valid. The offer is for the iPhone unit only, so if you are missing some accessories, your offer will not be lowered. Please remember to deactivate service on your iPhone, and remove any protective cases or screen protectors. All iPhones are wiped clean of all data and restored to the factory restored state upon arrival. If the new iPhone is not released on the projected date, we will contact you regarding any possible offer extension.

question for people who want a hugescreen iphone. Why not just get the forthcoming LTE ipad mini and use voip?

Same here. Only problem will be the preorders if they go live right after the keynote, which means I'll be a few hours late for them.

You think a 7.8 inch tablet will fit in a pocket? I guess if you've never held or tried putting a 4.3-4.8 inch phone in your pocket (here's a hint-it fits) you would have an opinion like this one.

Dude, don't you have to work or anything? I just wake up and check all the Apple feeds I subscribe to and the Apple site quickly before leaving for work. Then I get the details whilst at work and watch the keynote when I get home. It's futile for me to try wait till after work.

Lol the iPhone 5 is far from huge. Just a stretched iPhone if you believe the leaks.
Read my post again.

Are the voip services on iPad so good that you can use it as a phone replacement? And can iPads do text messaging?
I don't know. I am just asking hypothetically, there are people gnashing their teeth this thing isnt 4.5 inches like some android phones, and even saying literally in this thread "bigger is better." 8 inch iPhone omg!

Edit double post sorry.

Oh I agree. But I have seen people on GAF call kindle fires and nexus 7s "pocketable"

I think you don't understand how the phone and tablet markets works. Just because I want a 4-5 inch phone doesn't mean a 7-9 inch display mini-tablet fills the void.

At all.

My predictions for the keynote:

Everyone on the internet will be massively disappointed, feign self righteous outrage, and proclaim the fall of Apple.

Everyone in real life (ie. non neckbearded basement dwelling tech geeks) will love the phone and buy the living shit out of it making it the most popular and best selling phone in history.

So the "Security Concerns" you've suggested are a singular blog post about somebody complaining that they don't know how it works or whether it's been vetted by professionals?

Oh my, talk about a stretch, I'd say try harder but you might dislocate a limb should you try.

To be fair, security through obscurity is usually frowned upon in the security community. Especially in the cryptography community. iMessage may be secure but as it stands you only have Apple's word to back that up (I've only read the blog post so I don't know if this is true or not).
