Um, did someone notice that the shadow of the 12 in op picture is a 5 ? That means they will indeed call it iPhone 5.
I did, and I thought it was cool until I realized it made no sense and Apple doesn't understand how shadows work.

Gives me a bad omen for Apple under Cook. What if all the cleverness from now on is only attempted cleverness?

That is how shadows should work, everything before now is wrong.

That's why I said "either", in hope that they will change that policy one day.

It's free advertising by all the tech blogs if they delay the video a few hours, so it probably wont get changed for a while. I also wish that I could watch it live. =(

I think people are hanging too much into the image comparisons from the front, the new sides and the back (not to mention the way taller front) will make the phone look very different from its predecesors once it's out there in people's hands.

Why is the top bezel so friggin huge? Seems like a waste of space. Would look so much better is it was slimmed down, either by simply making it smaller and taking away from the overall size, or by increasing the screen size so it's taller and taking up more of the overall phone.

It's like the 4G thing. Or any one of the many features iPhones include so much later than other phones. It only makes sense.

I think Steve would have done it by now. May he rest in peace.

Area to hold the phone that isn't directly on the screen.

Steve yelling at everyone to turn off their wifi rings a bell, don't think it was streamed though, heh. Was obviously not in the video.
It was in the video, or in a clear enough video, anyway. He wasn't really yelling iirc, more like saying the same thing over and over until people did it. :lol

And it is recharged by your body heat and motion for an amazing battery life...

what the fuck is up with the changing the dock connector rumor, that can't be true, they can't render the shitload of accessory around useless can they ?

Can you not just create your new Verizon account tomorrow and pre-order the iPhone as your starting device? It doesn't seem that complicated to me.

Just whatever happens, remember to end the at&t one AFTER you're set.

Yeah I was wondering because I'm being put on a family plan (ie. not creating my own account, using an existing one) so I assume I need to get all of the primary user's info. And I did a test run on a 4S and I needed the SS and DL# to access the account for anyone wondering.

Ok, so iOS sucks. No useful features.
Positive: 0
Negative: 1

Yep because my disappointment with iOS6's features (or maybe lack thereof) for my iPad means iOS sucks. Great reasoning and deduction there. Must be why I bought the thing. If you did your research again, I've outlined many times why I found it to be a disappointing update.

Apple is evil, not a fan of the company itself, policies, or business practises.

Positive: 0
Negative: 2

I've made that known MULTIPLE times. I don't see how not being a fan of their corporate practices makes me a troll. There's a difference between not recognizing good products and not supporting the practices of a company. I like Nike shoes but I don't (didn't) like their use of child labour. Am I in the wrong now?

Regarding rumors of a mini iPad, mocking suggesting Samsung will be sued, impliying Apple's lawsuits are frivolous and baseless, even though the recent verdict proves otherwise

Positive: 0
Negative: 3

Please read the thread. How many of those posts were mockery/jokes, especially when the OP posted shit that was obviously not of the real thing.

Regarding a list of most innovative companies. Clearly thinks Apple isn't innovative, and giddy about their position below Google. Shocking.

Negative: 4

Please learn to use some context. Read who I'm replying to and what he replied back with. Christ.

Mocking Apple TV, and implying the ease of use that Apple products are known for is actually a lie, using the common 'See, just works' troll line.

Positive: 0
Negative: 5

Apple TV is probably Apple's shittiest product. Sorry, I have to say it.

Regarding Foxconn, implying Apple doesnt care and has done nothing about the labour situation, although all the facts show that Apple in fact is doing the most out of any company that deals with Foxconn, with real monthly reports to prove it, and based on real, positive changes the FLA has announced that Apple has implemented. Consequently, its the 1st time in history a tech company hires such an independant body for an audit, not to mention gives full access to factories to media etc. He pushes false meme that Apple doesn't care and has done nothing, which is a blatantly lie, looking at the actual facts and reality compared to everyone else. Fucks given about Samsung's labor situation, in which they OWN their own factories: Zero. Shocking! Objectivity at work here folks.
(you can wiki Samsung to see how much influence they have, and how many industries they control- they even have a weapons division for Christs sakes, since we're talking about 'influence', the bullshit qualifier that he uses)

This was a legitimate discussion about a company that preaches about the good in its corporate practices while making the most money of ANY company (at least public) on the planet. If you want to continue it, let me know and I'll oblige.

Responding to posts where I show that internet/techsite opinions/comments have little to do with what happens in reality when it comes to sales and customer satisfaction. This observation apparently enrages him.

Negative: 7

Now this is just bullshit. Wahhh everyone's going to hate on the iPhone wahh wahh, post after post after post. Fact is, no one has ever posted anything of that sort in this thread and I find it hilarious that you're the only one bringing it up whilst simultaneously fabricating scenarios in your head and ranting about it. It's like you're trolling yourself then getting furious about it.

And now, for the positive comment.

Oh wait, nevermind, that didn't exist. That was just the first page, which includes negative comments and spite on every aspect of the company and not a single positive one. I didn't pick and choose. If I kept going past the 1st page the number would have no doubt gotten to double and triple digits, with the top # remaining as is. Yet this is someone who will pretend to be open-minded about what will be shown off tomorrow, and not that he's already made up his mind about what he will say and how "dissapointed" he will be. He's attacked me constantly in this thread, and when confronted pretends to be a neutral observer who owns 28,293,023 Apple products. If this isn't the definition of a troll, what is? Is he forced to like Apple? No. But if he doesn't, why post incessantly in this particular thread? Yet people paint me as a fanatic, who happens to be posting in a thread about an upcoming keynote from a company I like, and products I'm excited about? Ok.

Blah blah blah.

Can't render floppies useless can they? Can't render parallel ports useless can't they? Can't render cd/DVD useless can they? Yep

This thread has gotten much more exciting than when I checked it at work about six hours ago...

you don't need to prove yourself to someone who is willing to take a bullet for a corporation

then it's okay if the new connector really is more efficient.

It probably won't be more efficient, but it is better in the long run. Apple will probably push BT4.0 real hard, and before we know it we will have standard BLE accessory-peripherials ranging from cars, coffee machines, to insulin monitors and shoes. Plus they will be able to talk to other things such as Macs, PCs, Android, etc - so I view this move as a win-win, if this is the way they end up going, which looks pretty likely.

I will be shocked if we dont have USB 3.0 on new dock connector

Hahaha, best Apple thread EVER.

Any guesses to how apple handles the extra vertical space and current app resolutions. I'm thinking letterboxing/pillar boxing.

I think it will pretty much be USB3 with a proprietary connector, and video out/audio can be done via airplay/direct over wifi, while they encourage accessory manufacturers to make "the next generation" of devices that can be paired via bluetooth low energy.

kinggroin: most apps have a primary viewing component that likely derives from UIView and can be stretched vertically for free. Things like twitter feeds, web browsers, list based apps, should all use the entire display - day one.

Games, pillar boxed.

I'd certainly like to continue it, you seem to have ignored my replies in that thread. I don't think you've properly compared the scale of the abuses of Samsung compared to Apple (I think the abuses at Samsung-owned factories are worse than at Foxconn in 2010, let alone 2012), or considered that they employ and affect more Chinese laborers (by wont of their massive amount of production), and that, in the case of at least six factories, they employ the workers directly.

Saying that Apple deserves to be singled out because they have more profit and stress a corporate image is pretty silly. Samsung has plenty of profit--it has more phone profit than all other non-Apple manufacturers combined, for instance, and it's not like they don't also care about a corporate image.

Hand waving away abuses by Samsung because you think there are other manufacturers that produce more than Samsung in China (who, by the way? I don't think you understand the scale of the company's product lines), and saying Apple should be singled out due to more profit is ridiculous. I think Apple has done a lot for workers in its supply chain, I think they will do more, and if we continue singling Apple out, yes they will do more and more. But those changes are only going to help the relatively small number of workers used by Apple (relatively small in comparison to workers used elsewhere, especially Samsung).

The very public reveal of abuses of Samsung by China Labor Watch, and their ongoing campaign against them, is a real opportunity to push for widescale change in the labor conditions of the tech industry. If Samsung were attacked with even just equal fervor as Apple was attacked (and Samsung deserves far more, given the worser scale of the abuses and the fact that they own the factories), it would signal to the tech industry that this type of PR nightmare can happen to anyone, not just Apple. And all companies would start cleaning up their act.

But if Samsung gets to have worse labor conditions at a larger scale with no attention from the public, even if they have many more consumers than Apple, that gives the opposite signal to the tech industry--keep calm and carry on, you're fine if you're not Apple. Even consumers (like you) argue distinctions and will defend other companies and insist that only Apple should be singled out.

Letterboxing = Horisontal black bars

Pillarboxing = Vertical black bars
Huh, I always refer to both letter boxing.

Which just made me realize I have no idea where the term letterboxing originates from.

Side note to numble I left a question on that thread BTW, in case you missed it.

"The term refers to the shape of a letter box, a slot in a wall or door through which mail is delivered, being rectangular and wider than it is high."

So right now I can order a 4S from the UK Apple website and select a Pay as you Go starter pack to go with it - what do we think are the chances of them continuing that for the 5? Pretty slim for preorders?

the common defense of Apple for the Foxconn atrocities that happened and are still happening is always the same, "but other companies do it also and they are worse"

sickening and brain dead logic

Of course they do more. I've never denied that. But read the original post I am replying to. The whole point of my argument was to respond to "why is it always Apple that gets singled out". And I gave the reasons why.

They are the highest profile company. Almost a darling of US entrepreneurship. It both raises awareness to the issue (because of how popular Apple now is) and pushes Apple to lead the way towards dealing with it. They have more resources than anyone else to do so and I'd argue they have MORE influence than Samsung in terms of setting a standard across Chinese manufacturers and technology companies. They've certainly showed that they can do it on the product level.

Maybe it's just me but I expect a company to follow through with what they preach. You yourself argue that "it's no surprise" that Samsung treats their employees like crap. That's the sentiment I'm talking about. People almost expect that they're a shit "employer"(?). People don't expect the same from Apple.

To reiterate, I'm giving reasons WHY Apple gets targeted in these reports. And I also believe they SHOULD be the target because they're probably the one company (if any were to do this at all) to actually change things.

Also, sorry but I don't subscribe to threads, so if a thread goes past the first 3 pages in OT, I usually won't bother looking back.

Great post. I've always enjoyed your posts on this forum. Always well thought out, reasoned, objective, and rational. It's tough to get into this debate with most people, because it's usually based on emotion and don't like to look at the complexities and the facts of manufacturing dynamics, especially when it comes to China. It's ludicrous how many suggest that Apple should 'pull out of China if they had any morals' or any such drivel, and shows how little they comprehend about what that would entail, and what that would do to Chinese workers. The situation isn't ideal, not by a long shot, by progress IS being made, and if all tech companies put the effort that Apple puts in trying to affect real changes maybe things would improve even quicker. Maybe the people accusing Apple of 'not doing anything' or 'should do more' should read this, in it's entirety, then see if they have the same opinion afterwards. Sometimes, it's useful to look at REAL facts, and not internet sensationalism that is usually skin deep, and article that want nothing more than pull you in with headlines and clickbait.

Anyway buhdeh, I call a truce. Just got back from Yoga/Tai Chi, this isn't worth it. I just really believe in people being sincere about the things they post, and although I don't think your individual justifications are relevant to the general trend of your consistent negativity and my overall point, we'll just agree to leave it at that. Anyway, everyone can rest easy, I don't plan to be here during, or after the keynote.
