Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate announced for Wii U/3DS, coming to West, no 3DS online

Hunting with Gaffers is fun, people are nicer and more forgivable than your random user. Too bad it doesn't rest long until the GAF room is empty because most of them already got their 100 hours (in less than 3 weeks).

Yeah. There's also a headphone jack, as well as a microphone built into the controller. They could even do video chat if they really wanted to.
Ummm, the Pro controller doesn't have a specific thing for a headset, I wonder if the console has support for normal Bluetooth stuff.

All this talk has gotten me worried. Wonder how the WiiU version will balance compatibility with the 3DS version's local play with the requirements necessary for a painless online experience. MHP3rd's solution wasn't exactly optimal much less even comfortable to use.

Since this is a 3DS port, wouldnt the WiiU be upscaled as well? Or has there been any technical talk around the WiiU port yet?

Upscaling is different to changing resolution. Upscaling means that an image is rendered with the same number of pixels but then stretched to fit an output resolution of a larger size. This is how arguments about games not being "high definition" get started, as the internal resolution does not match up with the desired rendering resolution. For a non game example, when you watch old dvds on a HDTV the standard definition image is being upscaled to be displayed properly without increasing the amount of detail.

The lava in the screenshot on the announcement video looks like native 720p with no AA. But the video was very blurry so don't quote me on that. It's not rendered at 3DS resolution, that would be appalling.

Trust me you won't want to turn it off.

Oh god. This picture... So much awesomeness.

PS: Sorry for asking something like this, but can someone create an avatar that says "I love Capcom". The letters in a monster hunter font. :)

Someone help clue me in about subspecies. If I gather materials from a gold rathian, does this mean I can craft gold rathian armour?

MH1 and tri didn't have subspecies.

Basically.

At least that's how it was from what I played of Japanese MH2.
Always avoided handheld versions, sans a little bit of the first 2 psp games.

This game in going to make sure that the platform will sell more than fresh water on the day Wii U launches in japan, can't wait the day it comes to EU!

That's.. odd. You would think all features would be finalized by now. Still, doesn't hurt to try to nag some more since we've done so much of it leading up to this release.

Based the screenshot in the stream/announcement vid, it looks like the resolution is HD (similar to Portable 3rd HD, but I don't know the tech specifics of that game) but unlike P3rd the UI has also been re-rezzed so it's not an eyesoar. Seems like more of an enhanced port than anything.

It's the same way in 3G. Although in MH2, you typically had to upgrade existing armor in order to be able to access subspecies armor.
So you'd have to get Rathian Armor, upgrade it to U/S level, then get Gold Rath mats to upgrade it to Gold Rathian. (It's something like that, since armor sets had branching trees based off whether you upgraded to U or S level.)
I downloaded a massive PDF on all the armor in Dos. It's pretty crazy stuff.

For 3rd and 3G, it's a completely separate armor series, so you'd just need the mats only.

I'm too happy to be annoyed at that community guy for asking us to show enthusiasm.

I'm probably buying both anyway, but I'd definitely be buying both if they both had online.

They're talking about the MH4 booth at TGS this year. I know from talking with both of them as well as reading their interviews in Famitsu that they've taken a hard look at the combat in MH and reworked it so that it's improved but still has the MH feel to it. I think people will be surprised at how good it is when they get their hands on the demo at TGS :)

Interesting. Can't wait to hear impressions.

That's bs. They know the fun comes from playing with others and local play is more difficult in the west than in Japan. If the 3ds was getting online it would already be there.

It can be patched in, just like save syncing with HD Ver. is.

Dont know if it deserve a thread, but Capcom Community guy said that it s a possibility that 3DS version get online if we show support/many of us ask for it:
http://www.capcom-unity.com/ask_cap...ns-about-the-3ds-version-of-monster-hunter-3u

how?
I won't buy it if it doesn't has online, but thats hardly support...
how about: give me online and I will buy it day 1? I think that sounds better.

I'd prefere to buy the 3ds version, but without online, I can't use half of it's functions...

I think that 3rdHD is simply the PSP game being run in a PSP emulator for the PS3 with some filters. The native resolution for the game should then be the same as the PSP one. Probably the reason for the UI not looking too sharp. I dont think that they will resize everything in TriGHD, but at least it looks like they done it with the UI.

I know its possible. I'm saying its bs for capcom to ask for fans to beg when we've already been begging for a western release of tri g on the 3ds with online added. There is no mystery concerning if MH fans want online play on the 3ds, the fanbase has already made that clear.

This is really great. Im not sure it will sell everyone but I think people calling the controller a gimmick should see this. This will make the screen less crowded and able to manage things easier, could even have a friend who's watching get involved. This is brilliant for Monster Hunter.

Yes it's pretty awesome, its all I ever used in MH2.

Do any gaffers still play Tri? This news makes me want to start a fresh character some time soon.

Oh, hai. I still check the community thread occasionally, but I haven't played with GAF in so long because I play early AM EST.

Can't wait for next week! Actually I still have doubt for MH4, hope the demo can prove me wrong.

Becoming more and more sold on this. Will take some getting used to, but I am finally starting to see the appeal here and it's still early yet. Certainly a hell of a lot more appealing than the Wiimote.

I'm excited about the crossplay feature. Kinda glad it's not released anytime soon, because I don't feel like buying a Wii U yet. With that I can just invite my brother over and I can play on a TV and he on his 3DS, or vice versa. It's kinda brilliant in some ways: I will always own my 3DS and then a Wii U in the feature, which means I can even invite non-owners to have a game with me.

So I like Dark Souls. Am I correct in thinking this game is kinda like that in terms of being hardcore Action RPG, but with only loot based progression (versus levelling and putting points into attributes and therefore unlocking spells, usable weapons types etc)?

This was the supposed PS3 version, yeah?

Glad to see they haven't completely deleted the source code.
