...does that mean he wont be writing a nova comic? if so then maybe it is good...indirectly

No it doesn't. Each issue of A+X has two short stories featuring a member of the Avengers and a member of the X-men written by two creators...issue 1 has Cable and Captain America by Dan Slott, and Hulk, Wolverine by Loeb.

So I figure I better try out some of the DC stuff this month.

Action Comics
Animal Man
Aquaman
Batman
Batman Incorporated
Batwoman
Dial H
Green Lantern
Justice League
Justice League Dark
Justice League of America
Swamp Thing
Talon
Wonder Woman

Any of these garbage? Missing something?

Add Demon Knights and/or Frankenstein.

MILO MANARA DRAWING PSYLOCKE. Hot fucking damn.

I'm still on the fence about whether I'm happy about the un-return of not-Jean Grey. In the millions of years of comics this must have happened to someone else before, right? Ten years dead with continued teasing of a return that keeps not happening?

This can't be worse then Captain Marvel, they even used that exact plot point of a Captain Marvel from a point in the past before he died....which turned out to be a Skrull impostor...

Looks firmly in the zone of Red Hulk/Supes-Batman Loeb, so I'm totally on board.

You can tell this from the bromantic colour coded captions obviously.

"That cake looks nice"

"He was checking out my cake"

"let's make out"

"what's that -- "

" -- light?!"

"Don't you try to take my man Volstagg, you sexually aggressive norse bear!"

That art is stunning though.

I just wish Bendis quit Marvel. The guy has done good work in the past. Now , he is past his prime.

He just needs to stay away from event books and team books. But for some reason this is all he's done recently. It's like brubaker, the man can't write a good team book to save his life.
The best Bendis marvel work is ultimate spidey, daredevil, and alias.

When do you get sick of it?

When do you "outgrow" the books?

I walked away from Spiderman. I walked away from the X-Men. I walked away from the Hulk.

These books are perennials, they're not meant to appeal to you or I. The era of Jean Grey is the Claremont / Byrne era. It's gone.

Time to move on man.

Loeb and Keown on a Hulk book? Nice!

Too late for Bendis and DC, he missed the Ultimization of DC by a year!

Manara can make that shitty Psylocke look ok! :O

Still wouldn't buy that shit.

Throw in Batman Beyond, book deserves more love.

Time to move on man.

I dunno about "outgrowing" but it kinda sucks being told to give up and move on from my favorite comic book character. Nobody ever has to move on from Author's Pet Emma Frost.

Cyclops should have died on the end of New X-Men so Jean Grey and Emma Frost could find love for one another.

*starts scribbling fanfic furiously*

Jean Grey and Emma Frost must lead the X-men, the school, and mutantkind into the future, in memory of the man they both loved, having to try and put aside their differences for their betterment of their race.

I could see it. As it is, we just traded one hot telepathic lover for another.

Doesn't matter man.

These aren't so much characters as they're intellectual properties. As IPs they're the literary equivalent of Foster Child, and the best you can hope for is a guardian that won't fuck the kid up.

Once you realize the people that gave a shit about these characters don't own or work on them, it all falls into place. The companies own the IPs and the editors maintain the status quo.

The worst you can do is keep the comics you enjoyed. Walk away from the shit that gets churned out month in, month out, and maybe come back when they start delivering the content you want.

I'll always have a fondness for Superman, Spiderman, and Captain America; but I don't need to read the current comics. I have some of my old comics. I can go back and read those.

I hate you people. Cyke and Emma deserve a long, long time together. Let Logan creep on teen Jean and move on to other characters, goddamnit.

/cyke fanboy mode off.

Being dead never stopped literally anyone from coming back to life in this industry. I'm pretty sure even Uncle Ben and Gwen Stacy have been dug up in some way by now. Why should it stop a character so popular she was recently included in MvC?

You're missing my point.

"Death" in comics doesn't mean shit. You know it. I know it. I was out of Spiderman long before they did that Uncle Ben / Gwen Stacy shit, but I'd interested to hear what suckers that stuck around for it genuinely felt about it.

Bottom line: Stop burning calories pretending Marvel gives a damn. They don't.

Just walk away.

I haven't given a shit about what Mehvel is doing since 1992 and it's great! I briefly got suckered back with Civil Bore, but after that I was done once more. So awful! :D

Some times they'll hire creators I like to legitimize a character (Ennis/Punisher, Loeb/Rulk, Milligan/X-Force). The rest of the time they churn out pablum for the addicts who can't break the habit.

See, I dunno. I mean, after One More Day and Ultimatum Spider-Man kinda was done for me, but I've heard recent story lines for him have been pretty good. They ought to bring Jean back to at least give her a chance. She wasn't half-bad in Here Comes Tomorrow.

I'm going to chalk this up to me dropping out of Marvel Comics before most of you were born, or cognizant and hope time will teach you. :P

I've heard nothing but good thing about Slott's Spiderman.
I've listened to interviews he's done that really sell the books.
I love Stefano Caselli.
I love Humberto Ramos.
I love Reilly Brown.

I can't read it. Shit is just terrible to me.

I don't need more Spiderman in my life. Just don't need it. At all.

I wish all those talented artists would go work on creator owned books so I could have something they make I can read.

Ramos has worked on Crimson which was great. Out There also great. Hoping Fairy Quest is great.

Reilly Brown was doing a team powers book, but it was set in New York City. No thanks.

For Stefano Caselli I'd rather find his Italian Playboy work.

This is such a load of bullshit I'm afraid to breathe in.

I haven't followed a character instead of a creator in like 28 years. I read mainstream (lol) comics because there are still nosebleedingly talented artists and writers working on them. Becky Cloonan draws a Batman and I'm going to skip it because it's "pablum for the addicts"? And it's not an "every now and then" thing either and you know it.

Is there garbage on the stands right now? You know it, and (GYASP!!!!) some of it's small and smallish press too, and I think you know that too. The fact that the existence of shat out comics that don't involve super heroes is I guess lost on you?

Usually I just let your bizarre pronouncements slide because neither of us will ever change our opinions but something about this one just hit me wrong.

dude i made it one issue into that run and quit when i saw this (spoiler for a year old spiderman comic)

(isnt spiderman supposed to be a kids comic? great dialogue by the way)

Anyway, I can only think of two times Spider-Man has risen out of mediocrity (Lee/Ditko and Roger Stern) so it wasn't a huge shock to me. You forgot to mention Marcos Martin though, that dude really needs to get away from Marvel.

I really like Earth 2 / Worlds' Finest.

Take a chill pill my effete mensch.

You cannot argue that every Marvel and DC book coming out now is quality. Yes they may be attempting to steer them toward quality, but that's not the case with every book.

You like Becky Cloonan?

Great!

Keep her the fuck away from Conan! Sure you may like her bishy boy Conan, but that's water in my god damn oil son.

You like Matt Fritchman? Great! I haven't read a damn thing from him that doesn't smack of smug faux intellectualism. Every character is a snarky disconnected jackanape. It's a shame Mike Allred is working with him on the new FF, because damn that book is going to look good.

Do you see what I'm getting at here?

You have a tendency to consume and hype a much wider variety of the shit that is birthed by Alonso and DiDio every month. I have stricter parameters.

Hickman's initial FF run was fantastic, but the carousel of artists on the book was awful. Made worse by the cock tease of Alan Davis doing covers here and there, and then you look inside and you're being punched in the face by some boring photo referenced art. BARF!

Parker's Rulk sounded interesting in the interviews I heard him talk it up, but his first arc which apologized for the great fun of Rulk trolling rubbed me wrong and was further exacerbated by Hardman's art. Sorry dude, Hardman is NOT my cup of tea. Loeb's run was loaded with some fantastic illustrators, and it even elevated the formerly total shit Jim Lee clone Ian Churchill! Loeb was a god damn miracle worker on Rulk.

I'm looking forward to She-Rulk mainly because Carlos PanGangamStylin is an artist whose work I enjoy looking at.

If you're along for the ride, fine. You can ride it out until you're unhappy or until you get sick of it. I reached the point of being sick of it decades ago and I have no need to go back. Marvel and DC pleasing old fans of the characters is second, or third to the need to get new readers interested in these aging properties.

If giving Wolverine a pair of ovaries and "feelings" is how they keep the character relevant, then that's fine; but I don't need it. My Wolverine was a complete mystery, more prone to stabbing you in the face while reading Penthouse in a malt shop while smoking a stogie.

I hope your menschy nature and many great enthusiasms segues into some sort of career at Marvel or DC for you, because Bendis and Johns aren't going to live forever. :D

Don't blame Marvel, TTOB gon TTOB. Aside from the revolving door of artists and disruptive events and terrible business practices I still think there's a lot to like about mainstream comics. It's still real to me, damn it.

I blame the back half of Marvel Now announcements for killing the mood in this thread.

LOL

Anybody reading Hypernaturals on your fancy richboy tablet things?

I'd like to know if Boom is actually making use of the faux "Click here for more info" bits on those fanciful hand computers.

Stow it!

You so crazy. Hating on Chris Bachalo and suckling at the teat of fourth generation Michael Golden clones. God damn!

Angry Wolverine with no past is the best Wolverine.

Also I'm gonna buy FF just for dat Allred art. I wonder if there will be a version with empty word bubbles...
