Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate announced for Wii U/3DS, coming to West, no 3DS online

And keep hope alive? No way! 3DS has no online AFAIK.. they would have screamed that of the rooftops if it has.

Surprised this isn't a launch release with WiiU... March 2013? Damn. Same Tigrex assets and still no online in a handheld MH released in 2013... depressing.

We were all ready to call the game dead months ago, keeping hope alive doesn't seem so inappropriate. Why would they even mention it if it wasn't on the table?

Really sad to see all the ire at the no online on the 3DS version. I just love portable MH so I'm thrilled we're getting it.

I have not been able to get an online MH since the original MH on ps2, this was finally my chance, but nope, its a big shame....Hopefully they figure something out...

After a long time of just reading the discussions, I finally registered on NeoGAF because I wanted to be part of the MH Tri community here. Then, several months later, my account was approved but I was already almost through with the game.

This time, it will be different. Hopefully. :-)

Haha. Welcome aboard.

I didn't get Tri until January of this year so I'm in a similar boat. Playing alongside others at the launch of a new MH game is incredibly exciting to think about. I imagine it's like a new Pokemon game at launch. All this excitement and discussion and fun. :D

If I could guess, I'd say MH is probably more arcadey than DD. Core battle systems are probably different, too.

Haha. I never played PSO, so I guess I'm still clueless. I haven't played anything MMO or RPGish since the Genesis other than Dragon's Dogma recently.
Demon's Souls with nothing but boss fights is the closest example I can think of. The combat is more about slow, methodical attacks and learning a boss's tells than over the top action like Bayonetta. I love it.

The only similarities I saw between Monster Hunter and Dragon's Dogma were large monsters with hit boxes. Beyond that the games are very, very different.

Monster Hunter 4 looks like it takes inspiration from Dragon's Dogma with the enemy scaling. Hopefully it's much better in the former as scaling monsters in DD felt a little funny at times.

Never played a Monster Hunter game, but always thought they looked interesting. I really enjoy the Phantasy Star Online series too, is this along the lines of PSO?

That's a great comparison, monhun and souls games have a lot in common.

Since my only MH experience has been Tri, I want to ask for clarification about new moves for subspecies and G rank monsters. For something like:

Rathian
Pink Rathian
Rathian (G rank)
Pink Rathian (G rank)

Does each of those have their own distinct signature move?

What? He's still a private after 9 months?
I did most of the offline stuff, but online I think I was like HR 4 when I stopped? None of my MH friends really play if there's no online, so it wasn't easy to get games going. I think my game clock is around 100-120 hours at the moment.

Also, I kinda stopped playing once I knew I was going to be able to continue in HD... :)

So ready for Dec. 8 man. SO READY. Only prob is gonna be finding enough time in the day for both DQX U and MH3G HD...

Side note: Someone mentioned Bulldrome - Bulldrome is not in MH3G. Nor is Tigrex, sadly. Almost everything else from MHP3 is in tho, plus a ton of new subspecies and of course, Brachydios.

I played the crap out of MHP3 and MH3G and while I love them both, there's no question MH3G is the better value. (Still wish MHP3 came out in English tho...sniff.)

Yeah, it's the same genre. But there are some key differences.

- Combat is slower-paced in MH than PSO
- MH has several fixed maps, not randomly generated dungeons
- MH you face a few enemies at a time, the focus is on taking down huge bosses; PSO you hack through mobs of enemies
- No leveling up in MH; focus is on crafting better equipment

How terrible. I feel so bad for you...

I didn't really join in on the GAF community, but the group I was playing with were all new to the series, so it was super fun figuring stuff out, comparing notes, and wondering what the next monster would look like.

Can't wait to experience that again.

how fun is the game if you mostly play it single player? it's not like i'll never play it multi but circumstances doesn't allow much multiplayer for me. I know i'll like the hunting and crafting aspects though.

Subspecies usually have new twists to regular moves. An example of this is the Pink Rathian adding a fireblast to her bite attack. G Rank have the same moves as their low and high rank counterparts but hit harder and can soak up more damage.

edit:
I see. So the jump to G rank is basically the same (mechanically) as low rank -> high rank?
Yeah. Pretty much

According to the Monster Hunter Wiki, Pink Rathain in MH Tri G has tougher skin and more health compared to the original Rathian. It now has as a fire-based bite attack (a variation of the bite in MH Tri where it lunges at you from the side). It looks like even if you're not hit by the actual bite, it can still hurt you with the fire breath if your within close proximity to its face. It also has a new mid-air tail rotation flip that resembles the original tail flip, but now Pink Rathian wildly rotates its body in mid-air to peform a sweeping motion with its tail to hit anyone near its side. It causes poison damage if your hit by the tail barb.

I didn't think this game was even coming out over here.
Online or not online doesn't matter to me. I'm just happy I get to sink my teeth into it!
Seriously is going to dominate my summer gaming time (and probably more than that too).

Plus I can go to my buddy's house and play multiplayer with him in the same room while he plays on the WiiU?

YEEESSSSS!!!!!

I think the single player is great. I had ~180hrs clocked in Tri. About 120hrs was all single player. That's how long it took me to beat the final monster and maybe a few extra missions that were unlocked after.

The multiplayer is amazing and does make the game the better but single player was still a fantastic experience.

Hey, you seem to know what you're talking about! I got a copy of Tri around that I never got around to playing. Would I be utterly ruining this new game by playing it? I mean, obviously you don't know what this new game in, but Monster Hunter does have a somewhat predictable release schedule with these updates.

I should note Ive never played Monster Hunter before.

Lol, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate was released as Monster Hunter Tri G in Japan last year so most of us know what's in it. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is Monster Hunter Tri but prettier and with a ton of new content and features.

I say it wouldn't hurt to play a bit of Tri, just to get yourself familiar with Monster Hunter and how it works. Up to Barroth would be a good cut off point as that's usually the the first monster that people have trouble with and where shit gets real. That boss fight will give you a taste of what the rest of the monster battles are gonna be like. After that I say wait for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate because it's gonna have all the Tri content and much more. Depending on how often you play the game Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate might only be a few months away after that.

Wait, so wait, Japanese WiiU owners are getting a port of a year old game? What do they have to possibly be excited over then?

For those of us that played MHTri on the Wii, how different is MH3G? I'm a little hesitant to pick this up if too much of the content overlaps...

The Japanese probably aren't as excited as we are but the ones that are, are probably happy because Tri G HD Ver. is on a console with online. Japan is into portables way more than the rest of the world but I think there is a decent amount of people there who still like to play games on their big TVs.

Monster Hunter Tri G HD ver. is there chance to play it at home, on the big screen, with a regular controller, in HD and online.

We had a lot of good times together, Rajang Barrage,
but it looks like im about to set off on a whole new journey all over again.

A few questions:
I was HR 120 on MHT. Do I have to start all over in 3G, equipment from scratch, etc.?
How much harder does 3G get than Alatreon/Jho?
New abilities on armors?
Interesting new set possibilities?
How is the online better?
How many new fights, not counting difficulties and reskins with slight change-ups, are there?

Haha same story with me just about except I lost my save and my will to play the game.
