Psy's Gangnam Style Music Video

MBC broadcast an hour long Psy concert last week, not sure if there is video anywhere other than torrents though. Surprised at how much of it was ballady, but the whole thing was pretty awesome. Hilarious watching a packed stadium full of Koreans trying to dance to Gangnam Style.

Well at least I got some good gifs out of this.

So I wanted to go deeper and youtube'd k-pop and found this and I don't know if it's considered k-pop (I think it's from Japan actually) but I also like this

Pretty cool stuff, actually. Is there more like this?

Perfume is Japanese, so j-pop I suppose. Don't have any recommendations for you in regards to that, sorry.

I am the Best is definitely 2NE1's biggest hit, but they've of course got other good songs like Scream and Hate You.

Their label-mates Big Bang have a similar sound if you don't mind listening to some dudes. Fantastic Baby from their most recent release is a great jumping off point.

And just for fun Nu Abo by f(x) is another song with a very strong beat that most people seem to enjoy.

The OP for the Kpop thread in the Community forum has a crap load of links to songs for you to check out, if you're interested.

Perfume is japanese. If you like perfume check out Capsule, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, and Yasutaka Nakata in general.

2NE1 is korean. I Am the Best is he best track of last year in all of kpop in my opinion, but most of kpop gaf (other than maybe (._.) ) would disagree with me.

As far as more like this, yes, there is plenty. I would recommend checking out GD & TOP (they are members of Big Bang) if you like 2NE1, as I feel they are most similar to that particular track.

Thank you so much for the links you two : D

I think I am addicted to that GD & TOP song, and Fantastic Baby is incredibly catchy. Will check out the K-Pop thread be for some reason I can tolerate this kind of Pop and it's great. Maybe it's because I don't know what they're saying : P

So I was looking through the comments and saw this-

Reasons why Justin Bieber is better than this. 1.JB can atleast speak english unlike this Barbaric mongol 2.Never disrespect music by singing in an uncultured weird language 3 JB is actually cute and doesn't look like Kim Jong il. 4 JB can actually dance unlike the air humping in this video - 5.JB is american so that means he's civilized. - 6.JB is not communist like this guy. - 7. JB's song's are actually good. - 8.JB videos are 1# on all of YT!

What the fuck is this shit? Who is stupid enough to write this? "JB is not communist like this guy" wat. Seriously, and "JB is American so that means he's civilized."

(This is just random, not really directed to anyone.)

To me, K-Pop, at least some of which is posted in this thread, sounds a lot more like American pop music. There's a clear distinction between J-Pop, which is usually a bit quirky*, and this more recent K-Pop. It uses a vocal styling that even fits for English.

It's interesting that "Scream" is in Japanese, but clearly doesn't sound like typical J-Pop.

*Sounds like vocaloid now. :P

this song is blowing up everywhere, was at my college football game n theyre playing this during halftime and everyone was doing the dance!!

kpop is originally influenced by american pop probably more so than any other asian country.

2NE1, in particular, seems to have their music more fashioned in American style than most K-Pop groups. It's a big reason why, prior to PSY's random popularity, they were, and I'd assume still are, considered the K-Pop group with the best chance of crossing over successfully.

I know it's the internet, and we should be used to this, but it's actually scary because it may actually be what someone thinks, and not a typical trolling. If so, the internet had a good run.

I'm just glad fun music/dancing is still around. Bless YT for making this guy popular to the world. He's like a Korean Michael Jackson slash "funny eminem" (not the garbage serious version). I hope he gets what he wants out of all of this, and at least continues on making fun music (he can have a couple serious songs too!).

I'm pretty sure they're just trolling... and isn't JB Canadian?

This is why I have the herp derp plugin installed on chrome - it changes youtube comments into "herp derp"!

Still at the top of iTunes here in the States. Pretty awesome.

Also, I'm really late in saying this, but thank you to all the people who recommended me some K-Pop songs/videos earlier in the thread. Lots of great stuff.

No, typical Jpop is like American pop.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought he was saying Gundam Style.

After I realized he wasn't, I shifted to Gangham style.

Been played a lot on the radio here in Los Angeles. If I heard the song for the first time without the music video, I would definitely be wtf is this shit. Although its still always fun to go heyyyy sexyyyy ladiessssss...

i dont think thats happening. this is a one time thing probably.

Yeah, I'm guessing it's just one of those few songs that were so good they just managed to cross borders and become a hit everywhere. Would be cool though if it did, as I'm open for more diversity in music, especially the dogshit that the pop genre is right now.

The song without the video reference is kind of crap. The outrageous video is why it's so popular

I think a group like 2NE1 can cross over if they did some English songs. They are very talented and it doesn't hurt that they're hawt
