The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

That was JSRF.

Honestly, JSRF was a much better game IMO.
Yup, JSRF is so damn good.

Came free with my Xbox and ended up being one of my most played games.

Time to check if it's backwards compatible...

Edit: It is. Lets fucking do this.

The BC on the 360 is... not great for JSRF. If I remember correctly, it pretty much halves the framerate. It makes me wish there was a good emulator available for the OG Xbox, as my copy just sits on the shelf, despite really wanting to play it--moreso than JGR.

It's not that bad. It's fine in places where the framerate was fine in the original. Where it was bad, it's worse through emulation. A PC port would fix all that, but I'm not holding my breath for it.

JSR is still great, don't know what Ryan was on about the game leading your jumps towards things or whatever. It's never done that any of the time I've played it. The level design is really nowhere near as complicated as they were making it out too. At that point in the game you already know your way around each individual portion of those levels. I also think he was doing an optional sequence as well since there were no cops.

Seeing Ryan try to get to the water tower by grinding up from the flight of stares, instead of just jumping to it, seems to be a clear indication of how much thought he put into playing.

A lot of grunting or sighing over really trivial occurrences too, like a slight camera hitch for .2 seconds or accidentally grinding that rooftop for a bit. Ryan's mentioned before on the podcast and other GB features that he dosen't much care for JSR and prefers JSRF for it's right stick camera control (which I don't think it even has). So I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Any chance of a Black mesa QL?

Even though its a mod its probably worth checking out just to hear Jeff piss off half life fans by saying its not the best thing ever.

No it wasn't. You can do it on Jet Set Radio.

Ryan's just really, really bad at video games. Like, Brad's had his shining moments, but I've never seen Ryan play a game 'well' on camera.

Also Future is a better game if you'd prefer that the game was as easy as possible. JSR is a game with some problems. JSRF is an art simulator that you can run around in but ultimately do nothing fun in.

From listening to the Bombcast, I would assume the amount of stuff that can go wrong any given session.
I've only put in 12 hours, after the tutorial and about 2 runs (an hour maybe?) everything should be making sense to you. There's a lot of shit that can happen yes, but its still pretty simple.

Oh.

Why does the game freezes for like a 0.1 seconds all the time. It's driving me crazy.

The port has horrible hitching.

Seriously, it's fucking deplorable, and this is coming from someone who can usually put up with technical hiccups as long as it's not too constant.

You cannot trick on rails to go faster in JGR/JSR. But yeah, it was hard watching the quick look, and I don't usually feel that way about them.

But, man, that guy can navigate the hell out of menus. You can't be good at everything.

It only plays that when you finish a big piece of graffiti.

Yeah, I remember it played a short "chord" after you cleared each part/motion, then when you got the final part done, it'd play that longer bit.

Still, I didn't hear it play during the QL. I'll check it again. Maybe.

Couple of things Ryan was missing in the JSR quick look:

-There's a map with all the graffiti spots in the start menu

-The chase levels are MUCH easier if you grind more than Ryan is there, though they are a bit too long winded

FTL doesn't necessarily look like a game I would want to play, but I'll be darned if the music isn't fantastic. Man, I was fighting the urge to buy it during the QL because of that soundtrack.

I haven't even had time to play anything the last few weeks. : (
I'm living video games vicariously through GB at the moment.

FTL is cheap enough that I'll probably pick it up around december, I'm betting.
