Quick question: It is OK to pile games like this?

I might take the game's off that cable box.

Cable Box's sometimes heat up and get to a lava level of heat.

The vents are in the back, that is why the games are in the front of the box
You can put stuff there, very cool surface area

The venting slot that gets hot the most is behind the blurays, but it's still far away

Edit: I guess that's not that bad I suppose. It's mostly all the cords and the plastic container, heh.

I keep all of my games on shelves elsewhere, I don't like to have all that color and such from the spines of games as a part of my entertainment center.

No..!! You responded before my edit :P I do have some sexy shelves though. I only keep modern games and blu rays on one of them, however. Other things are stored on shelves in my pseudo-office where my old systems are at.

The cord is for my Turtle Beach headset, not many places I can put that, the other is for charging my Vita
Plastic Container does the job, don't need a $25-30 Ikea DIY kit, just to keep my games organized

Could you link to a site that sell these? My collection is getting a little too big for the shelf stuff I got from Family Dollars. Need something nice and big that I could just stick all my PS3 games, PS2 games, DS games, 3DS games, PSP games, PS1 games, Wii games, GC games, some of my 360 games, and anime dvd and blurays in.

If you rush to change the games for your guests, wouldn't it be quicker and easier to access specific cases if they were organized vertically (keeping them propped up with bookends or something)?
 
If you aren't using polyurethane bags (like the kind for comics, but sized for DVD cases) your cases are already scratched.
 
As an engineer, the weight is going to be distributed on the outside of the case, to the edges. So the CD will be fine.

What if the plastic starts cracking and the case bends into itself?



OP, just make multiple smaller stacks instead of 2 large ones. Or buy shelves.

I don't see how it could damage the games, the protective cases are there to...well, protect. All the weight falls on the ticker outside rims of the cases so unless you plan on stacking them , say 10 meters high, I see no reason why this would harm the discs in any way.

I'm pretty sure Ikea is the only place that sells them. There is a full-sized model for $79 and a deeper model for $99.
 
The weight from stacking too many discs horizontally can warp them and make them unplayable, that's what you should really be worried about. Or how the invisible residue of human germs from just touching the cases or disks might in some way taint them. You really need to buy 2 copies of every game; one to use and one to just leave factory sealed and pure, stacked vertically forever. This is the only true way.
 
I've read that optical media should be stored standing up so they don't warp over time. Just like you should store vinyl records standing up for the same reason. But I do also have my disc based games stored like you OP, with a paper towel underneath the pile so they don't get scratched.

I keep all my DS and 3DS games in a ziplock bag.

Don't judge me.

I don't do this except with retro game boxes, but I've been thinking about it because those DS cases are so damn easy to scratch. At least the European cases. They look so good when you first buy them but after a week of use it will have hundreds of micro-scratches all over the plastic even though you're carefull. It sucks.

And watching shows like Lost, luckily 24 on top, so he gets lucky there

Must have to do some awesome Lego Build-A-Thon to get to something in the middle to bottom pile

It's actually pretty easy. Besides the newer games and some that I tend to return to most get a shelf space.
 
I do this with my DVD-movies as I don't have enough shelfs to even them out in a standing position.

I actually had a tower before stretching from floor to ceiling with all of my games, made me feel horrible.

Now my collection is much better

Thanks. Looks considerably bigger than my current set up yet still spacious. I can dig it.

Now, why is the black one 20 bucks cheaper? It matches my TV set up but I think its gonna gather dust like crazy.

Where I used to work (an indie video game store), the manager once thought 2.5 meter high piles of games were a good idea. I did not, as there was a chance of those towers collapsing over you. That luckily never happened, but could have; I once in the retail space got an entire shelf with content (Xbox games) over me though, but I wasn't injured.

As for how I organize my games privately, I have them alphabetically ordered, placed horizontally in shelves. Works great. For dokish, I recommend you follow this example, for the abomination posted in the OP isn't good for the games or you.
