!That kid now makes me believe that a live-action AKIRA is possible. What a great young actor!
He really was amazing, I was blown away by some of his expressions and the way he just seemed far older than he was.
I just got back from seeing this. I have been on completely blackout for this film since my editor saw it and advised I do so just over a month ago.
I would also advise you to stop reading right now for the same reason. Go in with no expectations whatsoever. Go. Vanish.
I thought it was fantastic. It was clever, narratively daring and heart-felt. Fuck the high-concept conceit of the film - which was really well explored mind you, the characters themselves were really well thought out. A lot of work has gone into thinking out how these people have been shaped and affected in this world.
Every actor in this film did a great fucking job. Everybody believed in the material.

Of course I must mention the obvious logic-flaw that they created in going for the happy ending. Yet I must admit that I'm willing to overlook the breaking of the cycle because I can understand that Johnson felt that these characters deserved a happy ending. The logical rule would have said that Willis shoots the kid and it goes on forever and ever and ever. I don't mind either way I guess.
Overall, it's fighting it out with Moonrise for my MOTY so far. Will have to see it again to see if it stacks up on rewatch.
Recommended!
Since there were so many twists and turns, I kept thinking that somehow there was a third loop and that was a younger JGL/Willis. Especially the way Johnson films the kid initially, how you don't see his face. But then when the rainmaker stuff started happening it wasn't the case.
I was just really tense the whole latter part of the film expecting to see the kid have his jaw blown off ("he has a synthetic jaw")
Question for those that have seen Looper already -
I LOVED Brick and Brothers Bloom. Two of my favorite movies. However, from the trailers, Looper looks like it isn't even remotely as stylistic as those two. I really enjoyed the snappy dialogue in both of those movies, and the visual quirkyness. Does Looper have any of that, or is it more of a straightforward SciFi film?
Snappy dialogue is most definitely still there, especially in the first act. And its full of great visual moments and the sequences you've come to love from Johnson. Right off the bat too, super impressive.
I loved Jeff Daniels Dialogue:
The whole rant about wearing ties, the bit about going to China over France "kid, I'm from the future, go to China" and especially his speech before he asks JGL to give up Dano
Re: the bit that guy thought I meant:
why the fuck were they dismembering him? To panic him into coming to the address on his arm? To make sure he couldn't run away? I never got the impression it was just to punish him as that's a bit extreme, it also seemed like he was on life support.
I get the impression he had to die AFTER his loop, but wouldn't his loop vanish if he died before?
Also, there was two timelines I assume, the one where Willis dies (has the hood on when he arrives) and the one where he lives.
Ebert gives is 3.5 out of 4 stars: http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20120926/REVIEWS/120929993

It's a really lame review though and (surprise!) full of spoilers. It's more of a plot synopsis.
So how's the movie tracking at the BO so far? After Dredd, I don't think I can handle another good movie bombing.
I wouldn't expect it to be a smash by any stretch.
But to answer your question, I have no idea how its tracking.
so far I'm willing to bet it's made $0 at the BO. Just a wild guess. So how's the movie tracking at the BO so far? After Dredd, I don't think I can handle another good movie bombing.

Of course not. It didn't have a crazy budget, is apparently quite good, and people actually know about it. Should do more than fine, I'd think.so this movie is doomed too??
Does something track "at the BO" though?Tracking, heard of it?
not really, just interpreted the post in an apparently unintended way is all, with "at the BO" there changing the meaning of "tracking" from the prerelease practice of projecting public interest in a film with numbers like awareness percentages to actually tracking real ticket sales at the Box Office.Ah, didn't realize you were playing the semantics game![]()
Would saying forecast would've been more suitable, then?

BOM is saying that the forecast for Looper is 15mill, and they expect it to lose to Hotel Transylvania. They echoed what Solo said here about the concept being too much for some.
I remember hearing from people that read the script a while ago that this movie would be awesome. I couldn't stand Brother's Bloom though but the premise of this and the reviews have me excited.
FTFYthat's wack. Should have slapped Nolan's marketing budget on this.
haha i remember they were reading it on ign a while back
ff7 said it was good i think

Was good, but not great. First half was much better than the 2nd half.
