Berserk is the only manga you need, well not really but it's so fucking good that everyone interested in the comic medium should give it a shot

LOL LOL LOL

I still wish someone would release all of Fist of the North Star manga here. :( :( :(

Oh yeah Fist of the North Star too, I was just thinking of stuff in current runs.

I should also add that if Mad Bull 34 had a Magna buy that shit!

You know, MANS manga. Man.
Indeed just like the MANime titles in the thread I started once about it.

Otherwise it's just the Wide World of Webios, People with Non-Existent Waifu's, and Registered Sex Offender's who are 40 and read comics intended for High School's Girls Manga.

theres still some manly manga if youre looking for it. like aiki. a harem series where the dude actually has sex with the women that want him. hes also one hell of a broken motherfucker power wise, and he doesnt seem to give a fuck about much anything.

Lone Wolf and Cub was the only manga I enjoyed. Checking out other stuff just made me want to run away. So much weird stuff and raunchy stuff that I couldn't be bothered to seperate the digestable from the barf. Sorry Japan, I just can't.

Go and read Gensomaden Saiyuki. It never seems to be ending just like most american comics, and if you had any slight homophobic tendencies that you did not face before, you will have to now. And it is one of the best series, imho. (But I am a fan :P)

Have to say that Talon was my greatest surprise this week. Great start, and a good addition to the DC list. Zero Month overall was more winners than duds, although the duds were true stinkers.

I was really disappointed in all the Batman and Robin origins. We didn't need them. Teen Titans especially should have been true origins for Bunker and or Skitter with hints of more to come. TT needs some new life to it, rather than being solo titles for Red Roin and Sperboy with the rest of the Titans as background characters.

And other brah, why you no like One Piece anymore?

I've been ignoring DC but like a decent one-up. No interest in any of the young justice titles, but what other zero issues are worth a look?

Manga:
Vagabond
Anything by Urasawa
Dragon Ball

I hear good things about Blade of the Immortal but I can't find the first volume. Yukimura's stuff looks cool too.
However, I want to be open minded and give them a shot. I specifically want things featuring characters with special abilities combating each other. Despite the issues above, I'm open to mainstream/superheroes, and anything that has those "problems" in it. Looking for stuff that's so good it would change my mind and make me able to look past the things I don't like about the mainstream US comic industry.
Ultimates?

So I just got a Nexus7 and now I got a Marvel and a DC App without any comic in it.

I have no experience with american comics whatsoever out of Hush. I'd be interested in a completed saga, nothing thats still going. Something Batman, Flash - maybe some Spiderman or Hulk? Where do I begin? Whats good?

Batman - Black Mirror in Detective Comics
Flash - Rogue War
Spider-Man - Spider Island or Big Time
Hulk - Planet Hulk

All are available in a competed trade.

I think Red Lanterns was my biggest surprise for how good it turned out. It was nice to finally see the Inversions in action and not rehash Qull's prophecy to Abin Sur again. Honestly though, I was pleased with the zero issues for everything I read.

Larry Hama's Spooks
Garth Ensis's Punisher
Ultimate Ultimates
Batman New 52 Night of Owls
AvX-Just read the free program guide as it was a good jumping off point for me...but what is with this
weak Magneto and Charles walking around stuff
will be a first reaction. The President of Iran appearance is SO SO SO FUCKING WORTH IT!
OH Hulk FUCKED UP some Sasquatch recently!

For Alpha Flight, I'd pass on the newer series and just start at the beginning of v1. Read until you get sick of it. That old Alpha Flight is really unpolished, but it's wonderfully quirky, oddball, and unpredictable.

I read Bleach for Kubo's fashion spreads, but that's pretty much it. Dude is so awesome at drawing rad track suits.
Yeah I want to see the car and motor drawings mostly. I've watched the anime many times so the story ain't gonna be anything new. But the races being drawn and not rendered in Dreamcast quality cgi would he great.

mangas, huh? If you are ok with a torrent of metrosexuality, Jojo's bizarre adventure is actually really good. Also fucking weird.

Also anything by Go Nagai

For Bats, you could go for essential reading like: Year One -> Long Halloween -> Dark Victory -> Killing Joke -> A Death in the Family, and then you'll be able to jump into completed sagas like Knightfall and No Man's Land. By that time you will reach the Hush setting and you can read more recent stuff.

And not an Marvel/DC comic, but I recommend you "Invincible" on Image Comics . It's a great spin on the superhero genre (once I read that the premise is something around the lines of "What if Spiderman had Superman's powers"? and it's very accurate to an extend), and it's friendly for new readers, too. The first issue is also free on digital.

And speaking of Super, you can try All-Star Superman, it's a great read and you don't need to know too much about Superman aside from the basic mythos (As an example, a friend who only knew about Superman by the Donner's movies got to read it and he was blown away)

What are some good Inhumans, Alpha Flight and Serpent Society stories?

rivals Annihilation for best Marvel "event"

I've read a couple issues of Rucka's Punisher on MDCU but i hope they release an Ultimate TPB of it at some point.

Excellent manga: Planetes

Very cool serious sci-fi about the next few stages of space exploration. The anime is fantastic too.

I enjoyed Battle Angel Alita, as a more crazy action-oriented manga series. Last Order is pretty tedious as it's mostly extremely decompressed action scenes, but I still go back and catch up once a year or so, just to enjoy the art.

I'm actually not much of a manga reader. When I said putting manga on my tablet, I was exclusively referring to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (which is awesome and you should all read it). Although I did watch the Naruto and Bleach animes for 3 or 4 years until they got so awful I couldn't take it. But I stand by the early parts of those series having been good.

i can't believe my thread is going to end with manga talk.

Hoax Hunters #1 was okay, i'm not sure if i want to continue reading though, will judge things based on reviews when the other issues come out. It's one of those books that doesn't quite put the hooks in yet feels like the material and ideas are there.

Do they look like Vikings on Sparkle Metro Vikings?

It looks like this (read from right to left):

Here's a little summary:

"Vinland Saga is set in Dane-controlled England at the start of the 11th century, and features the Danish invaders of England commonly known as Vikings. The story combines a dramatization of King Cnut the Great's historical rise to power with a revenge plot centered on the historical explorer Thorfinn, the son of a murdered ex-warrior. The presentation and style of the series has been compared by reviewers to the more realistically grounded segments of Kentarō Miura's classic dark fantasy manga Berserk."

It's no high literature, but it's a good story with some nice art. I wish Dark Horse published this series like they do with Berserk.

"Following Marvel’s lead in giving Joss Whedon on over-all consultancy role for their movie making endeavours, Fox have done the same with Mark Millar and their Marvel movies. At the moment this entails The Wolverine, X-Men: Days of Future Past and Fantastic Four, but it’s bound not to end there."

Saw this story on bleedingcool, didn't check to see where they got it but whatttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

Fuck whoever destroyed the GL movie. Guggenheim. I refuse to believe that Geoof Johns played a role in destroying this franchise. Instead shit like the Avengers is the premiere comix book movie franchise when it should've been GL. I will never let this happen again.

It's all comics bro, don't be funnybook racist!

Agreed on Hoax Hunters. Picked up the first two issues. Not interested in continuing, but it sounds like they've found an audience.

I have suddenly lost all interest in Days of the Future Past.

Why? Magnolia is my favorite movie ever. Now I'm confused.
Directed by the lesser talented Paul Anderson.

That seems pretty bad ass and reminds me of FOTNS art a bit. Thanks!
