Toucharcade is teasing Phoenix Wright something tomorrow. I hope they realize that if they're trolling, fans are gonna tear em apart lol

"TouchArcade ‏@toucharcade

If you’re a fan of Phoenix Wright games, prepare to have your mind blown at some point tomorrow afternoon… …I’ve said too much!"

I'm guessing it's stealth release of Phoenix Wright HD or release date soon, like next weekish

That would hardly be mindblowing. I'm sensing a big backlash tomorrow.

AA5 coming to iOS would be the happiest of days. It's Phoenix Wright HD though.

Also The Dark Knight Rises is 99c: http://itunes.apple.com/app/the-dark-knight-rises/id522704697?mt=8

I have an iPhone 5 coming soon and was wondering what are some must have games that are optimized for the new iPhone and preferably are a better fit for the iPhone rather than the iPad?

iPad is 4:3 more or less, older iphones are a little wider and the 5 is 16:9 -ish, it's a bit annoying but going by this image I blocked out each dimension as a different square outline (ignore the pale blue boxes)

Blue is iPad, Red is iPhone 5, green is every other iOS device.

I already really liked that game but I beat the first two Land of the Dead stages in Jungle Run today and they're really great, I'd say the level design in definitely on par with Origins. Obviously the game lacks the exploration aspect that Origins had (looking for all the secret coins, hidden areas with the pink girly dot things, etc.) but there's still some secret shortcuts to be found.

Origins was at its best when you running full speed, reacting on the fly to changes in the level, and JR completely captures that. Hopefully it's met or exceeded their sales expectations (it seems like it's been pretty high in the Paid Apps category since release), I'd be all over a sequel or IAP level pack.

Well, about the animations...it's done on purpose.
You will love it or hate it, but it's the chosen style of the game...more like a comic book than a proper animated game (sometimes animations are fluid on purpose...just to mark it was a chosen effect).
The colors are particular too, trying to mimic the Liberty art style (common in the start of the 1900...when the game is set).
It's not that back in the days animators weren't able to do fluid animations.

After playing it a bit I actually enjoying the style. In fact it is an incredibly surreal experience, this game. You can stand in one place and watch it unfold, quite beautiful that way.

so I got my first iPhone last week, and I'm actually surprised at how much I'm enjoying gaming on this thing. Picked up Rayman Jungle Run, Final Fantasy Tactics, Sword of Fargoal and Sword and Sworcery. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a traditional RPG to play. I was thinking FFI - III at some point even though they're kinda pricey. Anything else?

Define "traditional" RPG. There are excellent isometric games by Spiderweb (Avernum, Avadon), there's Cthulhu Saves the World (lovely game, plays like a JRPG), and there's a whole bunch of pricey square enix titles like TWEWY, FF Dimensions, and Chaos Rings.

Pinball Arcade just updated. It won't let me buy any of the new tables because the app insists I am not connected to the internet. Looking at their Facebook page, I'm not the only one.

Well, The Dark Knight Returns is pretty decent so far. Not sure why the hate. Wasn't expecting much more from an inexpensive iOS Batman game. Combat is good, about the same as the Arkham games. My only issue, really, is the shitty camera (and the bloated file size).

And...

Super Monsters Ate My Condo is a big, fat dud for me. "Insulted" is the best way to describe how it makes me feel. You have to pay gold each and every time you want to use boosts. Laughable piece of shit. It's obvious there are folks here who are lovin' it -- hey, my wife think it's great. Of course, she watches Glee, so her tastes are...

Anyway, I think it's an insulting way to update the original game. Charging people to effectively limit their experience of the game.

Am I the only one who did not enjoy Rayman? The graphics are wonderful and everything, but the level design relies heavily on trial and error and memorization rather than skill. You dont know what's lurking behind the edge of the screen, but are often expected to act as if you do (must preemptively perform some action to avoid death or catch a lum, otherwise tough luck, try again.)

And the land of the dead maps push this design philosophy to the extreme. How far does the branch I'm running on extend? *dies* Oh I see, next time I will know exactly when to jump! (rinse, repeat until you complete the level.)

Does anyone else find this kind of gameplay boring? This element of gameplay is available in all platformers, but it is usually balanced with other elements that challenge the player's skills. For example, Super Meat Boy sometimes has offscreen dangers that will kill you on the first try, though in general you usually know what lies ahead (thanks to widescreen res) and are often challenged to perform platforming moves accurately, not simply memorize dangers and tap your way to victory.

I guess the fact that the game relies on a one-button mechanic severely limited what devs could do with the design. I personally prefer games with more than just one button like LoE 2.

At least it's a double update with 4 tables

Taxi
Harley Davidson third edition
Elvira and the Party Monsters
No Good Gophers.

Which ones are worth playing PinballGAF?

We updated Fruit Ninja last night! Been a while. New Blades and Backgrounds!

Also we've reintegrated Twitter posting into the application, now using Apple's stuff.

We're working on a lot more stuff at the moment too :)

Oh, you got that as well? Phew, thought I was alone on that. Damnit, all I want to do is play Taxi... I've waited two months!

Any plans to add that "retro" DLC that the XBLA version got?

Final Freeway 2R.

Must have IMO.

I'll have to check it out. I dropped $50 into my iTunes account tonight so I'm on the verge of splurging on a bunch of games right now. I should probably work on my unfinished games first...

Your kung fu is weak! I just googled to find that it's one of the three Final Freeway games

To be fair, I gave up after like 3 seconds.

I don't think the one-button gameplay limited them here, to be honest. Like I've said in previous posts, the game is more along the lines of, say, the DS Sonic games or the console version of Mirror's Edge. There's definitely a lot of memorization, and I'm sure there are other folks out there who share your feelings about that type of gameplay. I don't happen to be one of them, but I feel where you're coming from. If done right, the learning element of these types of speed-run platformers is euphoric, as was Mirror's Edge (again, console version). It can, of course, also be quite frustrating. I eat this stuff up myself. As a matter of fact, at first glance, I thought the game offered a skimpy amount of content. But after hours of play, I feel like I got a bargain on it.

Ok this is an interesting perspective. I suppose it's all just a matter of taste then.

FF2R rocks fuckin nutsacks, the original was not good but the sequel is amazing. It's done by a bunch of guys who were at Square Enix R&D and quit to make GOOD GAMES
