*starts watching Punisher: War Zone on Netflix*
*Pauses at 3:33*
Hey, it's McNulty, you were right GAF, this is one of the best superheroes movies ever.
*Goes back to watching McNulty and Friends: The Movie*

New Mutants rocks. That crossover got me to buy some Thor-type book I don't give a damn about, whatever. lol

See, I've never really gotten into X books except for occasional standouts that don't delve into the mythology too much. Although with reading WatX and Uncanny X-Force I am slowly starting to get into it.

New Mutants has natural ties to Asgard from the amazing Asgardian Wars books. Check them out.

I was just goofing because I was on the other side of your crossover. I probably haven't read a Thor book since the Simonson stuff before that...back when it was new, damn.

Oh yea Asgardian Wars was cool

War Zone has one of the worst acting ever, but it's the punisher movie I always dreamed about in a lot of ways. (read: people die a lot)

The current New Mutants series is hit or miss for me. I really hate how it turned Cypher into some robotic supergenius martial arts master. Like the writers were so desperate to make his powerset "cool" that they aped other powersets like Sage and Cable. There's like no trace of his personality left. Now he's just "language language language language!!!"

The best thing about it though. He was in the living room with my father when I went to take the shower. So he got the iPad, opened the amazon app, and put himself to bed.

Awesome.

Yesterday my 3 year old was on the couch with the iPad and actually started playing Bastion.

Fucking ace.

i was so proud! haha

He was listening/reading one of his Dr. Seuss storybooks, and the next time I walk in the room, I hear...

"The kid pops him good. Fella got a piece of him though."

I ask him what he's doing. "Daddy, this guy has a hammer, like Shore! (Thor)"

Well Avengers was pretty much what I expected.

Lots of boring shit interspersed with rare moments of Cap being awesome.

Hulk was fun too.

Glad I didn't waste my money and time on it in theaters. :\

It would probably have blown my mind if I were six years old again.

I just don't care about the Avengers. I enjoy components of the Avengers on their own, but for some reason the Justice League of America just works better for me. I don't know why.

Sadly Warner Bros. will never get a JLA movie worth a good god damn in theaters. HERP! DERP! WE'RE WARNER BROTHERS - HOW DOES WE MAKE LIVE ACTION MOVIES?! :P

I'm gonna go ahead and say it : I think Marvel's way of doing movies removes one of the most interesting aspects of superhero fiction, namely the idea of auteurship and the possibility of multiple interpretations of a character, whereas DC's approach is all about one director's vision. So, you have things like "Nolan's Batman, or "Donner's Superman", but not really a "Brannagh's Thor" or a "Whedon's Avengers". And I think losing that factor makes for worse movies, wink wink Green Lantern.

This is totally Whedon's Avengers, action CG bits apart, this could be an episode of Buffy.
Captain America is Buffy, Iron Man is Xander, Thor is Willow

The best action movie ever can't be boring, you so crazy.

When did we start talking about Predator?

If this were a discussion about the best action movie ever, Predator; then yes. Predator cannot be topped.

I found it funny that Loki and Thor kept going on about "We may not be immortal" and Hulk just smacks Loki around like a rag doll that would leave a mortal a quadriplegic at best. So hopefully they drop that shit in future Thor and Avengers movies.

Hopefully the move past the boring ass family drama Thor brings to the table. Thor was a boring ass movie, and that baggage didn't add anything to my Avengers viewing experience. :\

Oh and I'll be doing B&W sketches at the funnybook shop, or simply defacing your shiny new Avengers comics. :P

People like to lay Green Lantern's failure at the feet of Geoff Johns. I want to disagree on that. I suspect Johns tried to steer the ship away from the ice berg too late when Warner Brothers film by committee process of making Green Lantern resulted in what we got.

Ugh. . .

We could probably still have movies that have the fingerprints on an auteur on them using the larger film road-map, but it might be tougher to pull off. Plus what happens if you have a kick ass director making say - Captain America, and a wildly incompetent tit on Iron Man? Hmmmm. . . yeah, perhaps the homogenized route is the best approach if you want everything to lead to the big team pile up movie. :(

This isn't really comic book related, I suppose, but I figured that you guys would appreciate the information.

Color me interested.

Loving the Superman Red Son suit, im probably going to use that variant all day everyday, unless a Superboy-Prime Solar Suit alternate is available.

As for Wonder Woman, sooo good.....until i noticed she is wearing trousers......come on!

I wonder if these are just retextures or actually custom meshes, should probably take this to the gaming side.

About comics

Wonder Woman #11.
Everyone is really chilled with hermes, did i miss an issue where humans are cool with seeing giant blue-ish grey men with clawed feet?
Else, im still liking this book, Apollo and Artemis while relatively lazy character designs are quite interesting characters....i hate Apollo at first because i figured he could be so much more, but now ive come to terms with him...err it.

Wonder Woman being 23 was kinda insane, I always assumed she was late twenties or early thirties.

Incredible Hulk #14
Ugggh i just cant stand this artwork when is this guys art run over.
I did chuckle at this panel though:
aaHG6.jpg

Else, Im not particularly interested in the story, Ms Von Doom is straight up annoying, Hulks kit is illogical....he has like pepper spray or something on his belt? For what? In case someone tries to mug him??......although i will say seeing the Doombots all together was pretty entertaining....i wish they could get some good writer to do a Doombots one-shot.....I always wondered what Doombots did when Doom was MIA.

Yeah I don't get it either. Avengers and Rocketeer are the only two comics movie that actually felt like comics on the big screen, with zero compromises.

Cap was close too, but lacked a bit of the jump into combat, that Cap does so well. That and the fact that Sgt Fury was lacking, and that is a HUGE part of WWII Captain America.

Superman/Spidey/X-Men/Batman and the rest always entertaining, but aren't really comics come to life for me.

I don't doubt that the fusion of the lesser Ultimate Marvel aspects of the films don't appeal to me.

I really enjoyed Cap. It's up there with Superman 1&2 for me for greatest of all time. I really hope to hell Marvel can get Hugo Weaving back as Red Skull. He was so damn good. Terrence Stamp tier villain!

i ended up ordering Cap and Thor on blu ray when they were still on sale yesterday for $15 each.

Only took 2 hours to regret it. At least one will be returned. Definitely Thor, maybe Cap. I loved parts of cap but had problems with some too. I didn't like the action scenes, especially when they basically turned it into an action montage later on, that felt cheap. Also didn't like the ending.

because the avengers are marvels leftovers (except cap) and no one cared about them until marvel realized they were the only characters they still owned and JLA has all the heavy hitters (for the most part)

Yeah and ironically he saved it by completely changing Tony Stark's character.

I love new Stark, beats Civil War Stark *shudder*

I watched Captain America again on netflix streaming and the ending still bothers me.
Couldn't he have taken it to the open waters and waited for it to run out of gas then jump? Or taken it somewhere where shield could shoot it out of the sky over the sea? Or i dunno, a bunch of things that weren't incredibly quick decisions to kill yourself? It's like Cap WANTED to die for America so badly that he didn't bother thinking of any other solutions, but tanking the plane was the ONLY thing worth doing

Fits with his movie character at that point. Scrawny dork forced into fake hero role, and desperate to live up to his own hype? What better way than dying a martyr!

Haw!

Thinking on it now, I think what the Marvel movie universe lacks are credible villains. Loki's inconsistent power set and general non-threat status meant little to nothing to me as a viewer. Blowing hard on the Cosmic Cube angle didn't help all that much. Not foreshadowing the threat level of the invading alien force didn't help any either, and I could see why some viewers felt the ending was a bit random.

So basically at no point during watching the Avengers did I feel the Earth was in grave danger. Even Green Lantern managed to sell the threat of Parallax to Earth better than the Avengers did with Loki and the Cosmic Cube. :\

Thanos? Still not sold on that ponce of a Darkseid ripoff. Mehvel zombies tell me he's like Darkseid, yeah if Darkseid had nuts for a chin and a penchant for dressing in gold lamé. :|

The Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon did the whole thing with 616, Ultimate, Skull, Hydra, Asgard stuff much, much better and it didn't have a shitty dudebro Hawkeye.

My buddy's pal kept lamenting the lack of War Machine, and honestly they need to build up Rhodey more in the Iron Man flicks before I begin to give a shit. He's a completely one dimensional character in the movies due to poor writing and bad pacing. If we spent more time on Rhodes learning to use the armor and being a stand-in for drunkard Tony instead of setting up The Avengers in Iron Man 2 - it would have been a much better flick and made me want more War Machine.

Michael Jai White as Luke Cage and Peter Mensah as Black Panther would be awesome, but only if they could make Avengers 2 fun to watch. No more wasting Captain America's potential for pulling levers guys. :|

Now that you point it out, I agree.

They should have kept the old origin, in which Cap didn't have any damn choice.

But even Marvel Comics is less about threats and more about destroying New York in order to save it and that fuckingly awesome battle scene was as Marvel as you can get.

As for Thanos, we'll have to wait and see; I don't see him as Darkseid at all, I see him as the Jim Starling monologue machine being over-emotional and illogical. That Thanos is always scary because he doesn't really care about earth or the heroes or anything like that, they are just minor obstacles torwards this abstract desire to love death that can never be quite fulfilled.

Go read Inferno or Evolutionary War and get back to me.

Marvel has good villains. I just don't think they depict them well on film. Unfortunately I'm only thinking of X-Men foes at the moment. . .

Marvel needs to stop using their movies to promote their next movie and deliver the goods in the current film to keep me coming back for more. The Iron Man 2, Thor, Cap chain was simply awful. For me more so in Iron Man 2 and Thor which just felt like long winded set-ups for The Avengers and not actual stand alone entertaining movies like the first Iron Man.

At this point though I'm just wishing Warner Brothers would go ahead and make the Flash movie with Scott Porter and pray they don't f*ck it all up. :\

It would have been more interesting if they had put a little more effort into the villains and brought them all back for the Avengers in a manner similar to what they did with the heroes. Then you could have had Loki, Red Skull, and Whiplash/and or Jeff Lebowski teaming up with maybe one more guy (Mephesto?) thrown in. That would have been pretty cool.

Or just give us Kang or Ultron

It's depressing that we're never going to get Ultron on the big screen, at least not without compromises.

Kang would be pretty awesome.

I don't want Whiplash back. He was terrible and the "conflict" in Iron Man 2 could have been resolved if these two super intelligent inventors just sat down and discussed their issues. The fights were so forced. :\

If you think that is a good action movie you need to watch more films.

This is neogaf brah. :P

Hopefully Shane Black can summon his Predator heritage to make Iron Man 3 amazing.

Plus Predator has the superior Silvestri soundtrack. Dun dun dun da dun dun, dun dun da da dun dun dooo deee dooooooo!

I thought Avengers was good action, but I wouldn't call it an amazing movie overall. The first half was pretty slow, but I loved the big fight.

Cap, Thor, and IM2 were all pretty bad. They were just so basic. Like Marvel now has a formula for a superhero movie and they just punch in a new hero every time. I thought XMen First Class was the coolest of the superhero movies in recent times.

The problem is that all of Iron Man's villains suck. It doesn't help that they made Justin Hammer a joke character either. Maybe they can get Dr. Doom back and do a movie with them in Camelot.

I thought First Class took too many liberties with the source material. What's the point of having someone like Sebastian Shaw if you're going to turn him into an insane Nazi mutant supremacist?

BROOOO! I love me some Predator, but I'm not sure all the mods are old enough to remember it. Defensive edit positions, pronto! :O

But I like Crimson Dynamo. D:

Problem is the Cold War ended. :(

Still waiting on a Fantastic Four movie that isn't total shit. I'm aware I'll be waiting forever.

Also a good Batman movie would be nice. Maybe something where Batman is actually, ya know, a fucking detective.

And a competent martial artist as is in the comics.

I'm so glad Nolan's reign of terror has ended and the third movie revealed the emperor's new clothes.

Oh, and no stupid fucking black metal voice either.
