Season's Beatings: Ascension | Fighting Game Tournament | Sep 28-30 2012

Not laggy for anyone else? The 240p stream is smooth until the matches start, then suddenly it's a slide show. It goes back to normal when it shows the people.

Like I just watched them in character select, smooth and normal. Match starts, suck.

At least he's apologizing.

I mean, it would have been garbage for him to say it at any point, but to say it right before an openly gay fighting game player sits in front of the stream? And one he's friendly with, on top of that?

Oh shit, now he's backtracking on the apology? Kinda? Man - just say sorry and back off it.

The problem isnt if it should have been ran back the problem is not having the rule in the first place in the website

the whole run it back or not fucked tayson over

Right, but his point is valid: the game itself did not award either player a win. Some round-based fighting games award both players a win, but Marvel is not a round-based game.
Yeah, I'm not sure why this is even controversial. It's as clear as day that wasn't a win. Again, SF rules don't apply because this isn't round-based.

It's your internet. It's fine for me at 360p.

Justin Wong ‏@JWonggg
@MrWizardSRK ok but the EC community at Big 2 voted that draw games count as a win for both parties.

Because a lot of people would love for FChamp to have lost the match (including me). If this had happened on-stream but between two unknown players it would have been a non-issue.

This is true. I feel bad for Tayson but that was one of those things that was officiated on the spot so you had to rock the on field call. For the future they have to have a rule on this written out.

This is the shitty part of it. If it is the rule than fine, but they needed to make it clear immediately instead of goofing around for a couple of minutes. Totally broke the match momentum, which was obviously in Tayson's favor.

i think this is important to note. draw games rarely happen in sf4 (getting draw rounds twice in a row). i agree that draw games =/= a win.

That openly gay fighting game player uses that same word probably more often than most people.

It's horrible for me as well

You know that ain't the same thing. C'mon. You just straight up said "Oh, it's okay to use slurs so long as you think any minorities within earshot uses those slurs themselves."

That is pretty obviously not the case. Maybe Ricky & Peter have an understanding about how this particular pass works, but that pass doesn't transfer to the 10,000 people listening in.

well he sounded quite disappointed and bowed out on the mic...

guess he didn't want to slip up and offend anyone else, him being openly homophobic and all. He is aware of the talent people on the internet have of identifying the tendencies of people and attaching labels to them.

good for you combofiend, good for you.

People want to see champ lose so bad that's way. Pretty sad.

What exactly is this based on? Plenty of round based games treat a draw as a win for both, thus plenty of people would assume it's convention. The only dodgy thing is that the decision seems to have been made on the spot, it would have been seen as controversial either way but I don't think saying it's based on people like/hatred of Champ carries much weight.

I don't even know why Combo apologized. Who cares? That word has transformed into a generic insult now and that's how he used it.

Kotaku something something. Also some people are legitimately offended by that. In either case, we are now stuck with Skisonic as punishment :(

Combofiend didn't sound particularly sorry to me. Only sorry about offending people. He shouldn't have said "Whatever, I am what I am, you guys know what I'm all about" at the end. Makes it sound like he doesn't regret actually saying it, only the potential effects (which may represent SB:A and it's sponsors as a result and cause larger ramifications aka call Kotaku).

I didn't say anything was "ok", you can stop putting words in my mouth. I said that Ricky being gay is irrelevant since he uses the word frequently.

Follow along son. The point is that Ricky's sexual orientation is irrelevant.

It's relevant to the fact that his TIMING was shitty. Which is what I was commenting on. It's one thing for him to have uttered that slur (over something as fucking dumb as vegetarian options on a food menu) but for the next person you see on stream to be a gay guy? C'mon. That's bad timing.
