Should I deactivate my Vita now ?
No worries, Sony is already working on that.Should I deactivate my Vita now ?
I think you are misunderstanding the situation. This guy technically made piracy on the Vita publicly possible.
That doesn't match the rest of your statement where it seems you are against piracy. In parallel you seem to imply that the people who were working on this thing secretly for their own personal interest should be sued. You know that privately tinkering with devices you own is legal in most countries, right? It's releasing the information (what that guy did) that can be illegal
Yeah, fuck CFW. Let's kill a console, because we're tight bastards. Why don't you just buy the games? You know, show some support?
I know, I know, there is more to CFW than running cracked ISO's, but let's be honest, that's the main reason. Then people complain that they stop supporting the platform.

How come you are in every vita thread then?Too bad they don't have any I want.
How come you are in every vita thread them?
I think you actually meant that.Trolling is power.
SHHHHHHH. Don't spoil his misguided notion that everyone using homebrew applications is a pirate and awaiting Sony's downfall! He can't take that the PSP2 is failing because Sony is stupid and repeating the same mistakes they did with the PSP1 and has to place the blame on "DEM HACKERS."
Wololo eReader app via PS Mobile, plz
I think you actually meant that.
They don't have any you want? That's crazy, they have a decent game in most of the genres.Too bad they don't have any I want.

Racing - WipEout
Adventure - Uncharted
Puzzle - Lumines
Fighting - Mortal Kombat
Sports - Everybody's Golf
Action - Gravity Rush
Platform - Rayman Origins
Stealth - MGS
RPG - Persona 4
FPS - Resistance
And that's just scratching the surface. If you genuinely don't want to play a single one of those, maybe this hobby isn't for you.
If you're in the UK, Sainsburys is doing the Vita and LBP for £170. You could trade LBP for Gravity Rush.Out of that list only Gravity Rush interests me. And I'm not paying 300+ for one game.
Not only for the system but also a decent memory card size as well. So the lack of software and the obscene pricetag regardless of what the system is worth is stopping me from getting one.
Now give me Type 0 and maybe I'll think about it, but it seems 3rd party is moving farther away as time goes on.

Did the PSP scene get killed? Every firmware has been hacked wide open, and why would people making homebrew only leave?Shit like that is what killed the PSP homebrew scene. Everyone wants to make a name for themselves.

Still blows my mind the scene is already making this kind of progress on the Vita but not on the 3DS.
There really isnt any progress on the Vita itself (at least not publically known). All of this is in PSP-mode. The 3DS already have it's DS-mode completely unlocked, flash cards work etc. (unless something has changed during the last 3DS firmware update), so there isnt really much need to do anything there.Still blows my mind the scene is already making this kind of progress on the Vita but not on the 3DS.

How many posters here that would like CFW on the Vita had their PSP CFW'd? If you have, do you still play your CFW'd PSP?

I think you'll get a decent SNES/NES/Genesis emulator if the Vita is hacked. Emulation of PS2 and Gamecube software .. that's a tough pill for the Vita to swallow. It's a powerful handheld but even the likes of BNES needs a factor of hardware power to achieve perfect emulation. Do I really want a handheld that can emulate 70% of the software at <50% of the performance it needs to run it effectively?

i havent touched my psp in like, 1.5 years
i just want to full featured media player that has x264/h264, hi10p, softsub capabilities, network support
obviously, sony will never do this
It's called Iphone. or Ipod touch. Or Galaxy Player. or Android phone.
none of those of oled screen
nice try though
Running ISOs is a big deal, especially if you have a Vita and a library of PSP games you bought at retail, and you don't want to (or just can't) rebuy your games again just for playing on Vita.
My android phone has an OLED screen. It's even slightly better than the Vita one (of course, you can buy 2.5 Vitas for the price of the phone).none of those of oled screen

CFW has never killed a system... Wii is probably the easiest system to hack and was fully pirateable from very early on (second year) and the sales for it and it's games are still very strong.
PSP didn't die from CFW, it died from being overly expensive originally, then simply not getting enough support (or the wrong kind of support from it's PR department)
This. I know I'll buy one.Vita sales to skyrocket in short order
Uhm. Cfw for wii supported everything.Wii was uninteresting for CFW because it was weak and didn't have most of mayor games.
What is the point of CFW for people who want to pirate games when they won't be able to play most of games on market ?
PSP didn't die but it was hurt a lot by piracy. I personally bought all my games from PS store but 4 of 4 my friend didn't buy any game for it. They downloaded it.
This. I know I'll buy one.
I do not support closed systems.
Uhm. Cfw for wii supported everything.
What the fuck does this even mean? Every console is closed system.

You don't say..they are pretty...harsh lol.
Tbh it may be paranoia but considering geohot's troubles with Sony and since they mention that vita cfw was working I wouldn't be surprised if this sam guy was willing to take a temporary hit to his reputation in order to release the files in a way that prevents anyone for really being responsible in the same way geohot was.. The excuses in the blog posts, the detail, the drama and even wishing sony good luck in preventing the hack and homebrew. Lol I don't know, I mean, good for them if it is the case I guess..
For the moment I'm not too worried, the Vita needs a few features yet, (through firmware) and access to the psn network is more important then with the PSP so I'm betting for a while most people will still upgrade, even if vita iso files become a thing.

Oh I see, you're not a pirate, therfore they don't exist.I love CFW. I buy/bought every single one of my PSP games (either on PSN or UMD) Your arguement is invalid.
So is this a 100% full on hack?
I don't understand this as well. Can someone clarify why everyone is in panic mode now?
PSP didn't die from CFW, it died from being overly expensive originally, then simply not getting enough support (or the wrong kind of support from it's PR department)
Lol, no.
The PSP sold extremely well at full price, both in hardware and software. And it had some first 2 years. But after CFW appeared, software sales collapsed because of piracy, third party abandoned the machine and then hardware sales collapsed because of the lack of third party support.
True, but that Vita hack is rumored to be in Playstation Mobile, which is also a sandbox enviorment. Nothing has been released about this, nor is there any update on it, so there isnt much Vita hack going on publically known. There's also the Vita-mode homebrew hack which is what the thread is about, but right now, everyone is talking about the PSP-mode kernel hack because of the recent drama.
The 3DS isn't "hacked" in the sense that modern systems are, i.e. you hack it via software and run your own software, usually via internal storage or something. Only the DSi was, and Nintendo patched it up so fast that only a few hundred people (me included, yay) have the hack.
Although I agree with you in principle .. it's difficult to find analysis that supports this statement. I'd love to see it as a counterpoint to "CFW did not kill the PSP".
Well, I remember Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, a game that everyone played, that all the game forums were full of info, with tons of pages on gamefaqs, for example, that was highly hyped as the next real MGS game, etc... selling only 50k on NPD.
Less than MGAcid, a non-cannon niche game moved when PSP was not hackable.
We can argue than when MGSW reached US, the PSP userbase was "dead". But if people is able to buy 250$ hardware (or even 400$ hardware) to play a good game, it would be even easier with $150 PSP, or even cheaper at second hand, or simply take the dust off the PSP that you bought years ago.
But no. Obviously much more people than 50k played PSP MGSW (unless the web forums were full by the same people) but only 50k paid for the game.
