Is GAF too strict?

Since we are on the topic, are avatar quotes frowned upon these days? I haven't seen many recently. I did do one earlier today in some random thread of which the exact nature escapes me, the person was voicing his displeasure while having a "son I am disappoint" avatar and I found it t be funny. Was a random thing during a quick break at work when I really had little time to post but was engaged enough to laugh.

Just not as quick and easy to do as they once were.

They do seem to have tapered off since I first joined. I bet a lot of that was the removal of animated avatars though.

I think a lot of people still think avatar quotes are broken.
 
Quoting gifs are different. If its been quoted more than once on the page PUHLEASE remove the image tag.

Otherwise you see the same gif 3+ times in a row just attached to comment like "lmfao" or something.

And then my browser cries.

Yeah, and this. Same with big images. I miss it too sometimes but it takes less than 3 seconds to delete the / in the img tag.

Also, the only gif I don't like is the one that's like, "Look at this! Wow! It's effin' nothing." I don't know why it annoys me so much. Maybe it's one of those "irrational hate" things.

Quoting big images should only be done when it's a page later.

The 50/100 ppp kinda complicates things but yeah quoting big images or gifs again and again gets annoying quick. Same applies to walls of text.

Avatar quotes are annoying. I mean, sometimes they work, like mine is suitable for when I regularly say something dumb, but sometimes, it's just a picture of a celeb, bearing no relation whatsoever to the situation. I often see them as, "hmmph, I don't agree, I'm pissed off, but I have no comeback. Therefore I shall randomly post your avatar in the hope to get a laugh." I'd say that around 1/2 of all avatar quotes work.

Cue avatar quote, a hurr hurr!
 
Yeah SunhiLegend is a great example. I like the gifs he puts out. And so do a lot of people. The problem is that so many people quote the damn thing without removing the img tags and my browser cries again.

gif overload isn't exclusive to just pop-gaf. Which, in a community I suppose it has its place. But I hate it when someone posts a gif from said community in an unrelated thread, and this encourages a slew of fucknuts to have a gif battle in a thread that was actually readable before their arrival.

Ah yes, I liked Fernando Rocker. I always wondered why he was perma'd. He and his fiancé Daniela Rocker were regular banned, then on their wedding day, someone posted a thread titled "Gaffers Fernando/Daniela getting married" then it was edited by a mod to "Ex-Gaffers..."

IIRC they expressed their displeasure about the permaban on Twitter, intermixed with wedding photos. lol

If I remember correctly, the story was basically that Fernando got banned for a wide variety of small minor things which wouldn't have remotely added up to a permaban. While banned, he generally got his fiancé to post on his behalf. I can't speculate as to whether or not she was posting or if he was using that as a cover story, but the impact was basically circumventing a ban.

Ban evasion is obviously something that gets people permed for obvious reasons. If the only punishment for prison breaking was getting put back in prison, rather than increasing the sentence, there'd be no reason not to break out.

I believe in the end he basically said that he had no idea it was against the rules, which I believe, but it's pretty clear in the TOS and it's a feature of literally every web community, so it stands.

Yes, Daniela did pop up a lot whenever he was banned. lol Though I agree that it should be very obvious that ban circumvention is a no-no.
 
Stop hating on the GIFs. This isn't reddit where we recycle rage comics to dull and mind numbing effect.

We at least have good content creators like Sunhi and Lump of Cole coming up with hilarious stuff all the time. I'd hate to see that go because a couple of you are sick of Ol' Jack nodding.

I think you missed the point. Nearly everyone is complaining about meme gifs. The same stuff posted over and over again. Besides 2 people I think, nobody said ban all gifs at all times.

That wasn't the point. The point is that someone who says "Saying nigger shouldn't be illegal" is not necessarily endorsing that kind of language. I don't have any problem with GAF banning offensive words or creeper threads.

Does that make it right? No. Do I give a fuck what GAF's morality police thinks about me using it? No. Is calling me a bigot a million times going to do anything? No.

But by all means, keep bringing it up in unrelated threads in lieu of having anything worthwhile to say.
