Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

I'm sad that I missed this I could have ripped all my UMD games and thrown them on my Vita. D:

Yeah but with CFW, don't you lose all PSN access? I'm not vigorously following this and am not willing to lose PSN access over a few UMD games I can't play on my Vita.

You can still use the PSN. The firmware is only active when you run the exploit. Then, you can only run whatever you've put on the system. The only time the PSN will be block will be when Sony panics and releases 1.82 in a few days. If you don't update, so you can keep the exploit, then you won't be able to get on the PSN.

Another shitty cell phone picture. Sorry it's all I have. This time, Final Fantasy.

Not at this moment. It is running on the official Vita firmware. You'll most likely lose it with the next Vita firmware update, then this Urbanix game should be patched. But then another game will probably be found exploitable again, and the same process goes over and over again.

EDIT: Already answered =)

Wololo wrote on his site that this was probably a rare case. But on the other hand, he said that this exploit would work on i.e the Monster Hunter game as well because the exploit isnt depended on a specific game. I'm not sure which statement that is most accurate, but i'd guess that there are more PSP games out there with this vulnerability.

And based on pervious situations, it seems that Sony cant find a way to universally block this method and that they only can do it on a game by game basis.

Ah alright thank you so we have a little hope left I would say :) Though that also means that I should check his site daily now, I hope I won't forget it :/

The bundle is indeed still live on the PS3 Store.
But when you buy it, they only give you the Easter Island game.

Guess I'm going to have to email for a refund.

wow, i lucked out buying this game before i went to sleep.

i figured it would be a few days because PSN store always seems sluggish to update, but damn, they got it down within a few hours.

starting the process now, backing up all my files. if anyone sees a good tutorial out there, holla.

phantasy star portable 2
kingdom hearts bbs
ff7: crisis core

those are the key missing games right? gotta prioritize since i'll prolly dump this to buy PSN stuff within a few months. wonder if online psp games work. kinda works out nicely for me cause i just played ff7 on the vita so i can replay crisis core now. phantasy star is what i wanted most on vita, so pretty happy.

edit: damn, just read takao's post :(

How do you install this PSP Filer thing?

Apparently PSP2 doesn't work.

What are people's thoughts on this eventually reaching a PSP-esque scene?
For whatever reason, I feel like it'll never get there. But people here probably know better than I

The PSPfiler it's easy to install, but I'm not sure it's required.

you need to make a "RANDOM EIGHT CHARACTERS".ZIP file, 8 letters all upper case, even the ".ZIP"
and inside this .zip file you need all to create this folders /PSP/GAME/THISISAHOMEBREW/EBOOT.PBP

And put it in the infamous "NPEZ00176" folder that you will transfert via CMA.

From what I can tell, your backups just need to be put inside the same folder NPEZ00176 with a 8 characters name and .ISO/CSO, all upper case, and they will work.

Yep - also make sure the ZIP file is compressed as "storage" and not using space-saving compression..

btw ftp program that works great:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/3q2gopv4jn4stm5/INSTALL.ZIP (not mine but tested - might have to repackage the ZIP) - filezilla is a free ftp client (mac and pc)

PSPfiler copies files from folder to folder...it can't really "move" a file - so be wary of free space.

BTW don't transfer more then one a time via ftp or they won't work

Sad I missed it this time.
Next time an exploit shows up, someone should send me a PM before the game is removed. (._. )

I put mine in the NPUZ00077 with the exploit files and copied it over to the Vita with Open Content Manager.

So did I but its not seeing them only seeing the pep games i copied from ps3 over. I dont get it. Guess Ill wait for a youtube tut. Frustrating, that I know how to do it, but not sure this way. COntent manager is a PoS.

The ISO file names don't have to be 8 characters long. They just can't be OVER 8 long. They can be shorter.

Right so from content manager you should be putting the save folder with the iso in that, so for example
Copy over NKDJKHDJHKD(Whatever the hell that save folder was labeled)\N.iso(for example)

Copy over to vita from content manager, copies fine when I open urbanix, no iso is in the list, only the ones I copied from ps3.

Here's what I did:

Copy any ISOs you want to NPUZ00077.

Make sure the ISO file name is 8 characters or less long and all capital letters.

Copy the NPUZ00077 folder with the ISOs to whatever the folder in PSAVEDATA in the Vita backup folder is called.

Copy the Urbanix save data from PC to Vita with Content Manager.

Launch Urbanix.

Load the save file.

From there, I get the menu screen with all the games listed. Then I just select which game I want to launch.

Ok thanks Ill give it a shot, Im assuming unlike the psp it doesnt need a loader first

Oh shi, missed this as well. Anyone have some SNES pics? OLED's gonna let some of those games shine as best as they can!

Well, there goes any hope of us ever supporting the platform. As if Sony wasn't having enough problems courting developers already.

Edit: oh, PSP side of it only? If so, still only a matter of time.

Edit 2: wait this is old news even. How did I miss this?

Shame, Gripshift was great - this is just PSP though, the Vita is still secured so I wouldn't be too hasty on that.

Ok then..

Sony keeps patching it quickly.

This stuff isn't Vita native. It's just in the PSP emulator. Unless you guys were considering on making more PSP games (which would be uh... interesting for 2012) anything you make will be fine. No one will be playing Jonah Lomu Rugby Challenge with this. ;P

Yes, edited too late.

Some tangential trivia, a save game overflow exploit in GripShift actually allowed an otherwise "unbreakable" PSP firmware to be hacked back in the day. That was probably one of the few times we directly ended up benefiting from piracy given copies started getting snapped up.

That's pretty lucky :P Seems almost random what game they pick to be the exploit these days so I wouldn't feel bad at all either! Even MH by Capcom..

Do you really think it will stay PSP only? iirc there talks going on saying this will definitely also open the door to let Vita run Vita's iso/backup very very soon.

Did 3DS get hacked yet? Why not?

even DSi is still not hacked,I guess it's just that hackers think Sony systems are more appealing or something like that.

I remember this as well. Terrible news but some-what mitigated by heavy online integration with the vita.. If Sony keep patching which they always do, I doubt most will be as happy with their vita without the online access and updating every few weeks is a pain, not to mention high memory card prices and slow transfer rates. Hopefully the damage will be limited but man, I hope they have some conscious and delay Vita CFW considerably..

Really noob question here, I managed to get the Urbanix thing running and installed that Vita FTP thingy but I can't figure out how to transfer stuff, I don't really know what FTP is to be honest :P

If someone could point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful.
