I can't tell if people actually have issues with Patrick or if they just want to get him to post here more.
He writes how he talks. He uses too many words to express very little. This isn't a grr, I don't like the way Patrick writes. His articles are genuinely terribly written. It reads like someone who wants to be a writer very badly but never actually received criticism.
Not to mention "If you love yourself some Deus Ex" is just a poorly transcribed colloquialism. His reads like how he would talk on the bombcast, not how an actual review should be written.
He writes how he talks, yes, but that's because he's writing a review, not a press release.
This makes no sense to me. Press releases go through little if any editing or proof reading. Reviews are the opposite.
He writes how he talks, yes, but that's because he's writing a review, not a press release. Also, you manage to say one thing, and then completely contradict yourself in the very next sentence.
Uhh, yes they do.
That doesn't excuse a lack of professionalism. I know Giant Bomb is an easy-going site and a lot of what they produce is relatively fast and loose, but I personally don't expect that attitude toward reviews. There's a time and a place for that sort of writing style (See Jeffs comedy news articles) but reviews aren't one of them. Patrick is just not a very good writer and uses uncommon words to fluff himself up a bit.
Not that I hate Patrick though, I like his Worth Reading articles (most of the time) and I'm really glad there's a member of staff so into horror games which is a genre I really love too. I don't think GBs news reporting would be half as good as it is without him either. He's just annoying.
Uhh, yes they do.
Guys, this isn't new. Giant bomb reviews have been written in a conversational style from day one. Now, some of the guys may have a different spin on this than others, but its a common trait for their written content.
If you want to get out a red pen and start marking up the text, you can do that but there's no point singling out one guy for using this style on the site.
For whatever its worth, I actually prefer it when they don't fall back on spoken word sentence structure and attempt for a slightly more formal structure, but that's just one man's opinion. I think it leads to shorter, tighter sentences.
You guys are the worst.
Random question but can someone point me to the video where Ryan was being helped through the beginning of Dark Souls?

Wow. That was disconcertingly fast. Thanks, though! Just got Dark Souls and it would do me good to watch this video and get the same help Ryan did.
Damn, I'm inspired. I need to step my SimGolf game up. Currently sitting on a rather haphazard 18 hole course in a location I don't love but it's making me money. Not sure whether to concentrate on landscaping and redoing courses now that I've got the whole map to work with or start over somewhere nice. Feels like I'm only scratching the surface though, looking at that post and linked articles.
I read this thread ironically.
I don't like that at all.
People read reviews?
in 2012?

Ugh you've made it even worse! Haha. In the Dishonoured quick look within 2 minutes 20 seconds Patrick mentions both "systems" and "AI systems" followed by Ryan saying "gameplay systems'.
Ostensibly, contextual systems.
Edit: Thanks brianmcdoogle, I am now in a coma.
Yes, it's called the Screened segments of Happy Hour.no, giant bomb just likes dedicating time and resources to completely irrelevant facets of their website.
And on the subject of the Dishonoured Quick Look, am I the only one who doesn't have a huge problems with the way stealth games work? The GB crew has expressed their frustrations with the genre in the past, about it being a bit unforgiving and frustrating, but I've never personally taken issue with these aspects. Maybe I've just been avoiding the worst offenders.
So they actually haven't gotten DBZ Kinect and Harry Potter Kinect in yet? bummer.
^
I'm talking about the one they showed on BLSL.
Edit: holy crap! :lol :lol
What the shit. My Russian isn't very good, but I think I'm reading that Game Bomb has 26 user reviews for Resident Evil 6 and Giant Bomb only has 6.
Edit: They also have four times as many subscribers on Youtube!
So Dishonored is amazing. And XCOM is amazing. And Walking Dead Episode 4 comes out TOMORROW, out of nowhere. And Retro City Rampageand Fable: The Journey
The fuck do I play first I don't even know.
Amazing.

I imagine a C&D wouldn't do much at all considering it's a Russian domain, huh?
