Billionaire CEO threatens to fire employees if Obama wins

As a finance major that regularly interacts with people from other fields, this reads like gobbeldigook to most others.

yeah i am not saying it is commonly used, just that where it is a common problem people have developed ways of dealing with it. to be honest, i think it would be pretty helpful if this became common, because conflating the two is a pretty easy way to mislead people. there was a proposal a couple of years ago to increase the nyc income tax from something like 3% to something like something like 4% and it was portrayed as a 33% increase or whatever (cant be bothered to look up the numbers). it would be so much clearer what was really happening if we used different terms for changes in percentages.

Is that legal? To threaten your employees with job loss if they don't vote a certain way?

Technically, he's not firing them for voting for Obama. He's firing them because other people voted for Obama. It sounds like Hollywood Boot Camp.

77 isn't that old in today's world. He could have another 30 years on him.
He could.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
The banks that had loans on Versailles gave the Siegels an ultimatum: Either pay off the loans or sell the house. So it's now on the market for $75 million, or $100 million if the buyer wants it finished.

As she stands on her deck in the Florida sun, Ms. Siegel wipes away her tears. "Maybe it will still work out," she says. "It always does, right?"
LOL

The Cryptarch's Bane
Siegel earned national notoriety this year for his quest to build the biggest house in America, “a sprawling, 90,000-square-foot mansion inspired by Versailles.”
In a bizarre twist, Siegel’s email was modeled after a fake letter that made the rounds on the internet during the last last presidential election. He confirmed his own email’s authenticity in a phone call to Gawker, saying that “it speaks the truth” and gives employees “something to think about when they go to the polls.”

Burying the lead a little -_-

Seriously. Do these people think he's going to go all final boss and transform into another form at his second term inauguration or something?

"NOW, behold my TRUE POWER!"

If you don't think we're locking away all the white people the very next day, I don't know what to tell you.

You had a good run.

If Obama is reelected, we are going to see some wild shit.

The rhetoric is too over the top, coming from too many places, and these people are about to lose their goddamned minds.

i hope he is precisely for this reason alone.

My god, if that happened in my country, you wouldn't hear the end of it. There'd definitely be lawsuits and prosecution involved. Threatening your workers to vote a particular way. It reminds me of the worker-boss relationship we had in the late 1800s.

But since this is happening in the US (sorry to be so blunt), and a filthy rich douche is doing it, I doubt anything will come from it.

Threatening your workers to vote a certain way is illegal, but I'm pretty sure you'd have to come right out and say it to get in trouble. Unless you work in a state that lets you fire someone for no goddamn reason, those are some fucked up states.

No, sadly it is absolutely real. Fox News smh.

wow. please tell me they were at least mocked openly by all other news channels? I can only imagine how bad the mocking and backlash would be in the uk if a news outlet like the bbc or itn did that.

bloody hell.

I honestly think people are going to get hurt or killed. The far right has spent months refusing to believe polls, or the idea that Obama could possibly win. If he does they'll find some a anomaly to cast doubt on the victory, just watch.

Remember that massive bomb the FBI found at a MLK parade? Expect more of that shit

Did this get posted yet? Koch Industries jumped on the bandwagon.

Koch Industries, other CEOs warn employees of layoffs if Obama is reelected

Koch Industries, the Wichita, Kan.-based company run by the billionaire Koch brothers, sent a voter information packet to 45,000 employees of its Georgia Pacific subsidiary earlier this month.

In it was a letter, dated Oct. 1, from Koch Industries president Dave Robertson implicitly warning that "many of our more than 50,000 U.S. employees and contractors may suffer the consequences" of voting for President Obama and other Democrats in the 2012 elections, a list of conservative candidates the company's political action committee endorses and a pair of editorials: one, by David Koch, supporting Mitt Romney, and the other, by Charles Koch, condemning Obama.

"While we are typically told before each Presidential election that it is important and historic, I believe the upcoming election will determine what kind of America future generations will inherit," Robertson's letter--first published by InTheseTimes.com--begins. "If we elect candidates who want to spend hundreds of billions in borrowed money on costly new subsidies for a few favored cronies, put unprecedented regulatory burdens on businesses, prevent or delay important new construction projects, and excessively hinder free trade, then many of our more than 50,000 U.S. employees and contractors may suffer the consequences, including higher gasoline prices, runaway inflation, and other ills. This is true regardless of what your political affiliation might be."

Sure. I mean US oil production has only increased more during the Obama administration than at any other time in the last 30 years.

I'm not for advocating violence. However, I would not really be offended if someone were to trip these Koch gentleman whist they were descending a staircase.

Seriously, can these people really be this movie bad guy evil?

This country is a God damn joke. First that fat old fuck, now the Koch brothers? Is ANYONE going to cover this extensively?!? Fuck the US media.

You think we'll ever get a hero who takes it upon themselves to rid the world of people like the Koch brothers and this other asshole from the OP? Yeah yeah, violence is wrong and all that, but at some point you would think people would realize that the world would be better without people like these guys in it.

This country IS a joke. Half of the blame lies with the media. Gotta keep readers, circulation, and ad revenues high!

Even the election is a joke, but that is a minefield that I will avoid for now.

You're just asking for Batman gifs. Seriously though, doubtful. Even if we did, who is to say that your hero would share the same values and definitions of a bad person as you?

I actually want to see this happen, it would force people to actually challenge their employers. Make a change.

Or it could mean that people's lives get worse.

I hope for the former.

It turns out this guy ended up NOT firing anyone (yet) but instead gave out an average of 5% raises to all his employees to "help them handle the additional burdens the government will put on them."
