[Bloomberg] New Xbox Game ‘Avowed’ Took Six Years, Two Reboots

Well it's a shame they let it all run wild for 3 years then, both internally and externally.

2018 by the way:

Avellone called it. Went from being "Skyrim", to something else entirely, and then finally the POE version of the outer worlds, but worse.
LMAO holy shit where the hell was this posted and how do you know about it

Chris is always on-point and always with receipts. Too bad that a lot of his warnings fell out on deaf ears.

I can tell you that this has already happened with Hellblade 2, Avowed, and even Indiana Jones to an extent, there are definitely games I'm missing there too. the way this loop keeps happening has to relate to how MS plans marketing campaigns for games now, it's impossible that the same scenario happens with 2-3 very different games unless it is.

I can tell you now. You haven't played it. And unless you've been living in a cave with Trolls everyone could see what Avowed was like in the Xbox Games Showcase 2023.

And its also not like lots of games get rebooted lets all remember what RE4 looked like when it was 1st shown off or what about Doom 2016 or Conkers back in the glory days of gaming

Honest question: has a single studio known for doing single-player story-driven RPGs been able to transition into a successful live-service multiplayer game?

I'm just sitting here wanting a game like Skyrim that is just co-op. No special shared world with a HUB, just myself and a few friends going through a big open world doing anything in whatever order.
Bethesda with Elder Scrolls Online?

Its obvious it was intended to be a Borderlands type game with co-op. The director said as much when she stated it was intended to have online play. They managed to salvage a decent game out of it. I'm certain Outer Worlds 2 has been the studio's primary focus.
i hope so love outer worlds.

Six years to develop such a bare bones game, is impressively bad.
It also means that the development cost is probably in the range of 150 Million.
They are never going to make their money back at this rate.

They didn't 'leave people to ponder' for 3 years, the game got rebooted twice in that time, that's quite literally what the article is about. They showed the game when it was in a state to show in '23 and it still took then 2 years after that to release it. It was probably not in a state to show between 2020 and 2022.
Then maybe don't hype consumers up on something you don't fully have nailed down?

Which again, is a chronic Microsoft issue. They did this with so many games it's honestly insane.

The notion of missing all media on a game you're interested in playing for 5 years is absurd enough as it is ..

But the user in question talked about Avowed both in the January '24 Direct topic and the Showcase Summer '23 topics, so he definitely saw the game.
Being casually interested in a game (which is the vast majority of people, even ones who watch showcases) doesn't mean that you signed a soul contract to watch and read everything posted online about it.

I mean I haven't been hiding the fact that the art design change put me off the game completely and made me uninterested in playing it, so I'm unsure about the point you're trying to make here about me living in a cave or whatever.

My point is, only one company has this shit happen repeatedly to them, and at some point they might want to revisit how they market games and present them to the public.

My point is you're the typical troll who's got a lot to say about a game they haven't played and that's to look over the fact that many games completely change their look from inception to release (hello Wave Race 64) and also to overlook how it was very clear how the game looked way back in 2023
Their standouts this gen:

Forza Horizon 5
Hi Fi Rush
Indiana Jones

That’s literally it. They have serious QC issues. Hopefully Doom does well like the list above
It's your opinion I happen to think you can add a few more to that list.

It is a shame so many look over how brilliant Psychonauts 2 was for starters.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Kobe Bryant What GIF

At this point it just feels like you're being contrarian for the sake of it. If someone's seen the game progress through 2023 and 2024, it makes zero sense that at launch they wonder why it doesn't look like the announce trailer 6 years ago and where its current 'colorful' art style come from. It has nothing to do with 'signing a soul' or whatever.

Conveniently also removed from that The Game Awards nominees list that gets thrown around often.

Strange.
