Apple is trolling us

"whatever we shit out, you shall buy"

Another vote for "it is highly unlikely the iPad Mini will have a retina screen". In fact, I don't see them making one until iPad Mini 3.

Also, 16GB = $300. No $250 unless they have an 8GB model (yes, I changed my mind since the last time I posted my prediction :P)

I buy completely into the leaked pricing. Ranging from 8 GB to 64 GB both in wifi and LTE entry level wifi 8 gb at $250.

I'm guessing the colors on the invite mean that the iPad mini will come in a variety of them.

Gah, someone already mentioned it. Make mine red either way.

They been using that color logo for a while, they used it at the iPad 3 event as well. It's kind of their callback lately to the old colored Apple logo.

Ditto. I've been almost entirely certain of the 250 price for a while and I bet Apple is one to make the next step up 350, too...

Gimme a pressure sensitive tablet with a frickin stylus so I can have a digital ultimo-sketchbook.

THE END

Maaan, I'm really not sure about 8 SKUs (or more if there's different cell bands). Has Apple had more than 3 sizing options for ANYTHING before?

You guys think there will be any kind of hook for the mini that would play to the strengths of it's size? I mean, if its just, "Hey look. Its iPad 2, but smaller! Ok, now on to the next thing..." that would be a little anti-climactic no?

Still seems weird when you have the iPod Touch starting at $299.

A little weird but not too weird.

300 dollar ipod touch has 32 GB storage, better screen and can fit in a pocket.

250 ipad mini will have bigger screen, but much less storage and, lower ppi screen and isn't as portable.

(plus Apple still sells the 200 and 250 dollar ipod touch. it's just old tech that's probably not on our radar. )

and don't forget that the iphone 5, unlocked, costs more than the 16GB ipad 3 with LTE.

Oh no doubt I can understand the price that they're likely aiming for and when you technically break it down into the parts and how it differs, you can see how it can cost that much, but on the surface to the average person, it looks a bit weird. You can't really factor in the unlocked iPhone price because no average person thinks an iPhone costs that much. I'm sure if it was anyone but Apple there might be some perception issues of the quality given how it aligns with pricing, but I think if Apple prices it right, people will jump on it easily. Still weird when you first see it before you rationalize it though.

Need a 13" notebook badly and was seconds away from pulling the trigger on a 13" MBA a couple of days ago. Decided to do a quick search on my phone before buying and found out about this October 23 event.

Gonna wait and see what the deal is with the 13" Retina Pro before I decide. Apparently it's not getting a dedicated GPU? If so, the price better be right.

First thing I thought when I saw the news this morning was "Yeah, because handheld consoles are not getting murdered enough already".

Nintendo should be OK for now I think. I do weep for Sony, though. The PSP was my favorite gadget for a couple of years until the software drought pushed me away.

Pumped for the new computers that should be shown off. 13" rMPB, MacMini, iMac... and maybe even the Pro? Dooooooo it Apple!

I don't have any dog in the tablet/smartphone "wars," but it's true, and that's why everyone is going to freak the fuck out at it.

First will be the sarcastic or "u mad bro" replies, then the replies will get more in depth and personally hurtful to the user.

you seem bothered.
I am, or rather "worried", for the competition.

I have several Apple products, and like them just as much as the next guy, but this just smells of a market takeover without offering anything particularly new. If they somehow do show something that makes it special, I will be pleasantly surprised.

People will buy what they want to buy. It'd be nice if they have some little special thing, but it might not really be needed.

Even if Apple doesn't bring anything new to the table with the iPad mini, just the fact that it exists will make the competition step up their game.

I think the bezel (or lack of it) will garner "Oohs" from many people.

That's all I'm expecting. The price point will be the main story here, and that's all Apple needs because they're unmatched apps-wise in the tablet space. Though the price shock will be tempered somewhat by the influx of cheap but high-spec Android tablets.

I'm more excited about the potential for its use in schools. 99% of what I do as a teacher with computers and these damn room-filling laptop carts could easily be done with much smaller and cheaper devices. And only Apple really has the cache to cause a major shift away from these depressing, bulky ThinkPads.

Someone should do a size up of prices for all iDevices and the variations and where this iPad mini fits into the picture. I'm talking Nano, Touch, Pad, Phone.

Step up how? It's already a crowded market full of awesome devices. Also, Amazon is the only one who has a business model that's likely to generate any profit. Everyone else is giving them away hoping that you come for the specs and you don't side-load your books.

Yep, and it's everything Apple fans used to be against. Now it's all, "LOL we win we sold more." It's sad.

You're crazy if you think Apple doesn't have a business model to generate profit...

I'm really hoping that, by "everyone else" you meant every other company that isn't Apple :P

what's so wrong about apple serving a market? What if there's people who like apple products, who are invested in the iOS ecosystem, but think the ipad would be better if it was smaller.

Is Apple wrong or doing something negative by serving them? I just don't get it. It's win win. People get what they want, apple takes a market over. Other companies are free to continue competing and trying to outdo them.

I'm pretty shocked at all of the hate. It's smaller, lighter, cheaper iPad. Why is that a bad thing? I honestly believe that it's going to be the best <9" tablet on the market when it's released and I guarantee that the general public will agree with me on that.
