Hardware Questions

Q: How big is the Vita compared to the 3DS?
A: Watch this comparison photo or this comparison video.

Q: How long is the battery life compared to the 3DS?
A: You'll get about four hours of gaming from it. You can read a more detailed breakdown here or here. If you're playing a less demanding title or a PSP game it will last longer.

Q: Is the Vita region free?
A: Yes, but you can only have one account activated at a time and online passes are region restricted.

Q: Are memory cards region free?
A: Yes, they are. Yoshida have been telling EU users to import 32 GB cards from the US.

Q: Does the Vita allow TV and Audio Out?
A: The Vita does support audio out, however the launch model Vita does not support video out.

Q: Question, do the thumbsticks click in? Like on a Call of Duty game for running.
A: No.

PSP Questions

Q: How do I access the PSP emulator settings?
A: While playing a PSP game, press and hold a finger on the touchscreen for a little while. The menu will pop-up, giving you the option to assign buttons to the right analog stick plus more.

Troubleshooting Questions

Q: My Vita seems to be frozen, when I turn it off it doesn't turn back on or the PS logo flashes blue what do I do?
A: First off, obviously make sure your Vita hasn’t just run out of power, or hasn’t overheated in sunlight (in which case, simply leave it somewhere shady to fully cool). Then, hold down your power button from about 30 seconds until you see the repair menu. Try restarting the system first. If that works, great! It was just a little glitch, everything is ok. If the problem keeps reoccurring when you play a certain digital game, delete it and re-download. Still not working? Follow this guide.

Software Questions

Q: Is the PS Vita backwards compatible?
A: You can play some PSP games. Select PS1 Classics are compatible since fw 1.80. There are no current plans to make PS2 Classics or PSN games compatible.

Q: Is there some kind of UMD trade-in program?
A: No.

Q: How do I download full games on the device?
A: You can only download games directly with the Vita or transfer them from a PS3. There are currently no other ways.

Q: Can you backup full games from your memory card to your PC using the Vita and the CMA application?
A: Yes.

Q: Is there a way to only backup your Vita save game files?
A: Yes, but it's a bit more complicated. Read more here.

Q: Is there a way to transfer PSP save games to a Vita?
A: Yes, follow the instructions in this post.

Q: Which memory card should you buy?
A:
• No Memory Card: Not even an option. Unless you are buying this thing for one game which doesn't save on memory card.
• 4 GB: If you go full physical, try some demos, get some mini games digital.
• 8 GB: If you go mainly physical, maybe one full digital game on memory cart, mini games, some PSP stuff.
• 16 GB: If you go mainly digital, full games, mini games, PSP games, some music & videos may need some rotation.
• 32 GB: If you go full digital, full/mini/PSP games, music & videos, pull stuff like "disgaea collection, persona collection, final fantasy 1-10 collection"

Y U NO SCREENSHOT EVERYTHING!?

"It only does everything" my ass, Sony. >:|

That's the PS3 slogan...not the Vita.

The point remains: Why can't I screen shot PSX/PSP titles with the universal screenshot options? Why can't I do it in certain titles? You'd think it being universal the function would be... you know... universal and supported by everything, yeah?

Seriously don't understand the administration on this site sometimes, what was so wrong with the other topic?

It was incredibly confusing when someone wanted to talk about a game, hardware, or the PSN shop.

Someone who uses a Vita is commonly referred to as a VitaBro/VitaDawg/VitaCat

you forgot Vitamuffin

And a person with a vita who has children is a vitadad!
Love you guys.

I'm thinking about picking up that Assassins Creed Liberation bundle, and like the white Vita, but I was wondering if dirt and grime and fingerprints would be an issue. My hands sweat a lot and I'd hate to have a dingy white brown after a year of use. I'm wondering if I should just get a black one, but that bundle is really nice.

I think only 2 people on GAF have the white Vita from Japan.
I'm curious about how they age as well as I'm buying the AC:Lib bundle too.

If you're worried about fingerprints, black isn't your friend.

White seems to attract less visible fingerprints. They're still there, they just aren't noticeable if the white PSP is anything to go by I guess

Tip: While playing a game open up the Twitter app, and click a link. This will enable in-game web browsing. Forewarning though, in this mode the browser can be unstable and crash.

Yup, black vita is finger print magnet. It really annoys me. As for the white vita, I highly doubt that it will brown or become very dirty except for the analog sticks. I think the rubber on top of the sticks is grey and that show dirt over time. But if your regularly clean those sticks you should be okay in the long run.

Best advice of the thread right here.

My iPhone disagrees..(seriously, short term relief isn't worth it :P, and don't you think of it with a vita)

Wifi only works within 2-3 metres of router
Navigation not working
Hold button permanently pressed down..

I don't even keep a sim inside anymore, but whatsapp is the new msn so I'm stuck with it..

Blue Light of Death Momentary Confusion

If you get a blue screen and your system becomes unresponsive, don't freak out. If you turn it off and the PS light just keeps blinking but the system won't turn on, don't freak out. Hold the power button (the top one) for about a minute. That brings up the recovery menu. Try just restarting it from there.

I thought my Vita died one day and freaked out.

My, now retired, white PSP didn't age too well. where minor surface scratches started appearing mainly on the back after a while they started to go a colour I can only describe as 'Hearing Aid Beige' from the center out. The one massive plus was finger prints where completely unnoticeable.

Should I gather the true tips posted and organize them neatly in the first post?

Yuck....

I have a confession.

I think the Vita is the most beautiful handheld ever created by man. The hardware is just exceptional

What happened to the OT?... ;(

I feel so lost...

In a way, one could say it has been deleted.

Tip: To delete an application on your PlayStation Vita memory card simply touch and hold the icon in the bubble menu. There you'll be in a mode where you can change the look of your menus from the background images, to the bubble placement. Click the "..." bubble on a game icon to open up the game icon menu. You'll find the option to delete the app there.

If this doesn't help, you can try let the battery run out and then boot and see if it works. If it locks down after this you got a bricked Vita. And firmware updates do not fix this. ( I got hit by this :( )

People don't know how to do this? :/
