The Giant Bomb Quick Look Thread 2

Man, does anyone have a picture of the gold? I was left very dissatisfied with the lack of gold in that quick look.

The 007 quick look had me cracking up.

I'm fairly new to GB... any must-see quick looks I should go back and find?

If you have the time, someone linked to a list of the top QLs based on the GB community.
If you don't have the time to see 'em all, check out this playlist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORmDwwbF3a0&feature=BFa&list=PLEBDEB67929D851B0

edit: Oh youtube took down volume 1, but someone compiled a back up version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyAms4Q-naM&feature=BFa&list=PLEBDEB67929D851B0

Everything from the "Best Of" QL series.

Definitely Darkest of Days, Rogue Warrior, Wipeout Wii, Story Hour, probably more I'm forgetting.
Excellent! Thanks, fellas!

Here's to a slow day at work...

Having watched the Quick Look, I've now changed Doom 3 BFG from buy to rent for the 360. I refuse to own any version of Doom 3 that does not have real-time shadows when using a flashlight.

What a shame the consoles couldn't be an exact port.

I would like Patrick to get his new computer and then stream Doom 3 with mods.

I wonder if he'll stream Dead Space 3. As he said on the podcast about LTTP, 'I'm gonna play it anyways'

The Doom 3 QL was kind of irritating, as I feared it would be. Bitching that the torch spoils the mood, then bitching there's no coop? If anything kills horror it's coop. You're better than that Patrick.

If he has an agenda he'll make whatever arguments necessary to try and support it. Even ones that are contradictory, or hypocritical compared to his views on other games.

Medieval Combat looks pretty fun... which is surprising since first person melee is always dumb. The chaos of having other guys around probably helps though.

It's almost as if he's the same as the rest of the crew, gaf, and every other person who's ever been on a podcast.

It is really satisfying. Duels can last a good amount of time, with well timed parries and feints. It's not mindless hacking at all. Drew does a good job of describing the depth. What they need is a 1v1 quarter match style game type with lobbies of people lined up to duel. It would be amazing.

Oh wow, old school Rocket Arena. lol
If they set up tournament brackets in game, they could make it a fighting game!

Maybe I need to pick this up soon. lol

What exactly is his agenda on the game is expressed that he loved? The port looks like fucking garbage.

We have recorded an Intel Discovered Quick Look. You can stop asking us to do it! Because of course we would do it! Should be up tomorrow.

At first my reaction was "what the hell is Intel Discovered"

Then I googled it and saw this

Now I can't wait for tomorrow

Checked out the demo after the QL, didn't know that GAF's own chubigans worked on it. Game is super fun, once I have some extra cash I will definitely pick up a copy. Hope it gets Greenlighted on Steam!

Jeez Ryan. Took him 10 minutes to start playing the game. Browsing menus for 10 minutes is not fun, ffs.

I was watching something from GB the other day where Ryan says something about 'stop going through the menus and just play the damn game'. I laughed.

Perfect Quick Look game for Ryan - when he spends the first 15 minutes of the QL in a menu, that's actually how you play the game.

I demand a football manager 2013 quicklook from Ryan, it's 99% menus! Also their lack of football knowledge and the complicated nature of the game would make it quick look of the year. :p

Congratulations for saying this about a game that is PRIMARILY MENUS. Sorry that every video game isn't NON-STOP SICK HEADSHOTZ, BRO.

:o. I've been MosterDunked. What an honor.
I'm still standing by my point, though. We should always have a sense of how a game is being played before we dive into it's menus. This game is no exception imo.
Btw, sucks that the only time a GB staffer replies to me is in regards to probably the only negative thing I said in this thread :(.

showing what the game offers is a big thing though, do you want a 'late title card approach' in which they jump into the action right away and go visit the main menu halfway through?

That's how I prefer it. Or rather at the end when the Quick Look is winding down a bit.

I mean GB isn't in the business of advertising random games, they primarily self-describe as informing consumers so they don't have to do it this way but look at the way a game is demoed by the developer at PAX or E3.
It's gameplay with a bit of set up and narration while it occurs. Not menus.

Look at PES or NBA2k, nobody gives a shit if that game has an association mode or a tournament mode when the gameplay is garbage.

Isn't this what they have been doing for the most part in QLs? Usually they show the main part of the game being played to give us what we wanted. Then at the end they go and browse the menus and different options/modes provided by the game. This is an ideal approach because I'm immediately engaged with the QL. And when they decide to go through the menus later, I am actually already invested in the game & the QL, that I want to see what the game offers at that point.

I hope I'm making sense to you.
