Let the joy begin!

We got the Christmas catalogue through this week. My wife said that if I wanted 'Darth Vader's triangular spaceship', we'd have to move house first to make space.

I have no where to put it either, but I have to build it. I have to see the glory firsthand.

Which is the better LEGO Star Wars set to request from my wife for Christmas?

Millennium Falcon #7695

Or

Jabba's Palace #9516 (with the intention of adding the Rancor Pit next year)

I've built both sets and I would lean toward the Falcon. Overall, it's a more complete set with some unique building techniques. And when it's done, it makes an excellent display piece. Jabba's Palace is not as much fun of a build. It's the great variety of awesome mini-figs, especially Jabba, that makes the Palace worth getting. Also, I believe that the price-per-brick ratio is much better for the Falcon. Jabba's Palace is mind-bogglingly expensive.

Falcon is older so it might be disappearing soon. Jabba is new, so you have a couple years.

Yeah, I was leaning towards the Falcon too. But the palace does have amazing minifigs. As far as the palace's price, DAT injection mold process.

Costs extra to fill out every fold of Jabba's putrescent mass. :D

I vote Falcon first as well.
Though I personally almost want the Palace more, just to get Salacious Crumb!

That's how I was with the ucs millennium falcon. I had to build it, took some pics, got a bunch of compliments, then tore it down and sold it to another Lego fan that was dying to experience it as well. I never did have the room.

But I'm really tempted to go for the SSD with double VIP points this month, at least the sopwith camel. I need to get my ass to the Lego store.

If you can't afford the SSD, at least get the Sopwith. It's a really cool build and is a beautiful display piece. The green on it really pops in a room.

Which reminds me, need to get my sopwith up for sale somewhere (eurobricks?). Just didn't hook me as much as I'd like.

Salacious Crumb is TINY and he seems very fragile. He's just a single piece set in a sitting position, but you'd pretty much only ever have him sitting in front of Jabba on his dais anyway. His diminutive size does not diminish his awesomeness however! As I mentioned earlier, this set has been one of the best, in my opinion, as far as mini-figs are concerned. It would have been worth it for the glorious Jabba figure alone (notice that I didn't call him a 'mini'-fig), but then they throw in Han Solo in carbonite (along with a Solo mini-fig that clips behind the carbonite block), Boushh, Salacious Crumb, Bib Fortuna, Oola and a Gamorrean Guard which my daughter promptly grabbed and started doing the heavy metal version of the Imperial March (like they do in the LEGO Star Wars video games). Simply amazing.

I'm absolutely dying to get the Rancor Pit and stack the two sets. I do not like at all how the tower portion of Jabba's Palace just hangs in the air above nothing when it's stacked on top of the Rancor Pit. Looks horrible. So I think I'll end up grabbing a bunch of tan pieces and making my own bottom half of the tower so that it looks more displayable. Or maybe just use a bunch of tan bricks to make it look like the tower is sitting on top of rocks or the ground in order to give the illusion that the pit is underground.

Grand Emporium is still out of stock at LEGO S@H and is giving speculators fits that it may have suddenly gone OOP. Some have made calls to S@H customer service and inquiries at stores with feedback ranging from "it will be back in a few months" to "it isn't coming back".

The reasoning behind Fire Brigade being kept on while Grand Emporium heads OOP is that the FB experienced the missing bag snafu, which caused a large amount of them to be recalled and a new production shipment was created.

Also, The Black Pearl and Queen Anne's Revenge are now Out of Stock on S@H - looks those may be OOP as well.

Wait, what's this about? I just got it from WalMart but probably won't have time to open it until Christmas break. Should I be worried I'll have a missing bag?

Shit. I need to head to the Lego Store in Austin to see if they have any Grand Emporiums left. For some reason, I was under the impression that the Pet Shop was next to go.

Edit: Oh yea! Walmart has 'em too. Too bad I don't get VIP points. :(

The missing bag thing was from a year or so ago - it came from batch 39R1 - you can look for the code on the tape seal, but you should be ok if it was a recent purchase.

I still need to get Diagon Alley. Hopefully it's on sale somewhere before it's gone.

I went to the Lego Store today and cleaned up. Double points, 1 free small Pick-A-Brick cup (with a coupon), 1 free pack of 3 minifigs that I didn't know about until I got to the store, and I used the 10% off from my catalog on the Uruk-Hai Army set.

Welp you fools are one confirmation of cancellation away from convincing me to drop the money on grand emporium. oh god why did i miss the walmart clearance sales?

it's in stock at toys r us target and amazon, at all of which it qualifies for free shipping. Toys r us offers a free series 5 minifig with it.
