Star Wars: TOR Free 2 Play - Will you play it?

Absolutely not. It's a terrible MMORPG, and I'm sure adding microtransactions to it won't make it any better.

I'm not really looking forward to it, but I have a brother who is awaiting the free to play option, so I might try it out with him. Can't hurt.

The F2P players are basically outcasts when you look at the feature split between subscribers and free players. I guess that if all you want to do is play the story, then you'll have a pleasant experience. I just hope you are not thinking about raiding, trying PVP, sprinting or getting revived on your corpse instead of at a med station. Which would force you to run back to your corpse after the first 5 deaths.

I just feel like they are trying to make life as miserable as possible for the F2P players in order to push them to buy something from the store or try a subscription. Either way, I don't think it matters, the experience is on par with most MMO's. You aren't missing out on much by not playing TOR.

i paid 3months for this game and i was bored after 3 weeks... even free i dont want to touch at this mmo again.

Played like like 2-3 days out of 1 free month from release day.. Promptly uninstalled it.

With GW2 out I wouldn't play this even if it was completely f2p.

I might play again. Since I subscribed in the past I'll have things already unlocked according to the video. I rather not subscribe and just pay for things here and there.

The split is bad though. As suggested they are making free play very limiting as to make the subscription that much more attractive. That was to be expected. The question is how far did they really go. It's the similar to what Turbine has done with LOTRO/DDO and SOE with Everquest 2. It works but at the same time it can't be to restrictive since the key to doing this is to make money off of the unlocks and let people buy when they want. There is a balance that has to be struck. Players have to way to buy access various restrictions but not feel as they are being forced to in order to join the game or feel like they must subscribe to do anything of any worth. They'll just leave if they feel that and not even play with the restrictions.

I think Turbine hit a right balance (item shop for housing, cosmetics, leveling aids, and content areas that were permanent buys if you didn't play before the change but still charging everyone for expansions). SOE seemed like they were on their way but I didn't play a lot of that to be sure. Will be interesting if EA/Bioware can get that balance right. I hope they're looking at other games that have done this to see where the limit. If they do I hope they don't, in typical EA fashion, cross it.

Those restrictions are fucking absurd. I didn't even make it to the halfway point.

Play The Old Republic and have outrageous restrictions on what you can create and do, or buy Guild Wars 2 and not worry about restrictions at all.

I'm a current subscriber and I greatly enjoy the game... so I'm just hopeful that F2P will grow the community. It isn't dead right now by any means, but a larger number of players will be a good thing. Hopefully it gives Bioware a shot in the arm to keep making content. Hopefully it is a success.

Granted, I think they need to rework some of the restrictions. I doubt they will, but maybe they will make some small changes.

I still have a sub. rarely touch it though. Storywise its much better then the competition, also the combat and pvp in ToR is very good.
The sick amount of instacing ruins so much though.
GW2 is the better game overall but I find joy in both.

Sure, why not? Just to see what all the buzz was about. Though I'm deep into WoW with Mists of Pandaria being so good, so I doubt TOR will hold my attention for long.

of course. its one of the best mmos out there and easily trumps the rest in terms of production values

The core story stuff of TOR was pretty good but so many of the planets and MMO filler was terrible. Taris, Hoth, Ilum, holy fuck, they were so bad. 20 hours of story isn't enough for a 200 hour character.

nope, got a character to max level and quit shortly after. the pvp balance was awful, the raids were uninspired and rolling an alliance char was a death wish of never finding people to do anything.

not worth it to level another character since the progression is linear as fuck. you have to do standard kill/collect quests. that's fucking it. they don't even try to hide it.

game is awful and not even worth the bandwidth imo. it's mmos from 2000. the genre moved on and they didn't. oh, and let's not forget the awful engine.

I got it as a birthday gift in September and played for about a month or so with two classes. It's not horrible per se, especially if you are a Star Wars fan, but after a few weeks of playing I kind of realized that MMO's aren't really for me. I'm sure I'd llike to finish my class story line one day, but there's so many good games out and I have so little free time. It's kind of hard to dedicate yourself to one game like that, especially when you don't really like the MMO kind of grind.

Damn, these responses lol, though I agree.

Bet KOTOR 3 is sounding pretty damn good now huh Bioware. Would have been cheaper and on consoles even!

Doubt I'll go back to it even for free. I don't regret the time I played, but there's nothing I need to go back for.

I quite enjoyed my first time through. Got a bit bored with my second character having to repeat a lot of things, but I'll probably try again just to see the rest of Agent storyline.

I kind of want to finish a few of the storylines, but I'm not sure I want to stick around for any extended period. The restrictions seem especially strict, kind of wish they'd just loosen up on those and make it truly F2P without going pay to win.

That, or gut the MMO and grind from my single player experience.

I am tempted to play for a bit, just to see what the game is all about. I never got into it when it was released. Although I doubt I will play for more then a few hours especially since I am a big GW2 guy. I still thought that although this is going subscriber free, you still had to buy the base game, that might clinch it.

If I do bite, which class has the best storyline?
