Star Wars: TOR Free 2 Play - Will you play it?

I was already paying to play it earlier this year.
I mean I wouldn't mind playing it for free instead though.
The story modes are pretty cool still.,

No, game is pretty trashy and no, it's not worth playing for the character stories either as they aren't nowhere near SP quality standards.

I might "co-op" it with a friend, but it's hard to say at what point it's just the co-op moments and shit we say that's keeping us going and not the game.

No I have no interest in anything bioware, any wow rip offs, or anything star wars related at this point. It's a 3way of stuff I now hate.

Doesn't help that stuff like keeping SPRINTING a premium feature means they don't understand how f2p works.

I'll probably play it out of curiosity but I probably won't stick with it due to its poor F2P model. Who hides sprint behind a paywall?

Perhaps late next year, provided there is nothing else good out.

I cancelled my original subscription to TOR within 30 days.

I've wanted to try TOR since before I knew it existed... When I heard it was going free to play I powered through the account manager, made my account, and clicked the download button. I watched as the installer downloaded (not long, only a 30mb download) and when it finished I just stopped.

In just that amount of time I realized I no longer cared. The KotOR I played and enjoyed were nearly a decade old... I had moved on, and suddenly I couldn't even get myself to load the installer.

At this point, it's a non-issue. I was too old when playing the KotOR games to be able to look back nostalgicly like I can on games like Chrono Trigger, or Breath of Fire so I don't have that to drive me. Likewise the games happened long enough ago that any immediate draw I had to play more also died out. I've got other things I can play now that I'm just simply more enthused for. Hell, I beat Pokemon Black 2 just a few days ago, but there is still tons of stuff left to do and that I'm a lot more interested in.

The only restrictions I could make out from the video were limited character race choice (which I assume only really affects your appearance?) and a limit on the frequency of joining PvP battlegrounds.

Are they not imposing common gameplay-affecting F2P restrictions like limiting fast travel, bag space and the quality of items you can equip?

It's free! But...

Yes I will play this again.

I paid for 2 months, but after the first month I got terrible mouse lag. The game became unplayable. Also my server was empty... With the announcement of F2P i'm going back.

Even though the stories aren't all that appealing to me swtor IS a good game. The atmosphere is great and there is an insane amount of content for a MMO that has just launched.

OK so at least they are giving subs, and old subs a little something extra, I guess that's not too bad...I'll check it out when I am bored

Depends on how restrictive. I can deal with the 1 bag if I must. But having chat restrictions and content restrictions is crazy.

Everytime I see this game and "great Bioware story lines" being mentioned together, I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Who wrote the story lines should go back to writing books for 10 year olds, It's just terrible.

In true EA/Bioware fashion basically they have tried to restrict the f2p aspect of TOR in every which way they can :-

  • Three Flashpoints per week
  • Three Warzones per week
  • Three Space Missions per week
  • The option to buy a weekly premium pass
  • Inventory expansion and cargo hold restrictions
  • Field revivals upon death are restricted
  • Character creation restrictions
  • Limited quick travel
  • Restrictions on login wait time

Are flashpoints like dungeons? Ew, doesn't sound all that appealing.

Nope, not interested in tab target MMOs. I'm a Star Wars fan, but I'm not THAT interested in the universe. I mean, what loot can you get from it? What's the god-tier armor, a brown robe?

I already tried starting an Imperial Agent since you can play to a certain level for free already and I lost interest during the opening cutscene.

I doubt I can drag my friends into it as well.

Might think about finishing my agent from when my sub lapsed in June, but if the restrictions are too obnoxious I won't bother. I was also stuck on a dead Australian server that is apparently now a ghost town.

I really enjoyed the story and character aspect of the game, the 10-49 pvp was fun, but the rest was typical grind and I'm enjoying GW2 to much!

Yes, i quite liked the beta, just not as much to pay subscription for themepark mmo, but for f2p i will gladly play it.

That's not the only offender. Those limits are absolutely ludicrous imo.

I dont really think they are that restrictive, it all depends how expensive week passes will be, if something like 2-3$, i'm completely ok with that.

It's a pretty lifeless and boring copycat but I'll probably play it just to finish the Agent story line that everyone says is so mind blowing. When I quit the game mine was only at level 20.

Yeah but you could deal with less inventory space and restricted dungeons/space missions. But the maps are too goddamn huge even with sprint so having it behind a paywall would make me gouge my eyes out before playing it again.

They got the PVP limitation backwards. It should obviously be mandatory Huttball all the time UNLESS you pay, that would drive subs right fast.

So paying for the ability to sprint will basically cost you the same as subbing to the game? (8-12$)?

That's way too expensive for it to make sense to not be subbed.

Stuff like Sprint will probably a one time purchase thing. But yeah it's nonsense. They also want you to pay for the ability to wear epics. It's to make up for no box sales I guess and makes the whole F2P concept a bit pointless.

I've played this more than tera, d3 and gw2. Even tho there are major flaws and it lacked content, i've enjoyed this game for 2 months. I might try it again to see what changed.

Enough with the hyperbole, guys :p

SW:TOR has the best personal story in the whole MMO-genre, it's just the rest of the game that's letting it down (straight-up WOW combat) and a lacklustre space gameplay section (basically just on-rails shooter).

Hey, guess what.

If a game's story is good, but the rest of the game is bad, it's a bad game.

Maybe.

I've been having a great time revisiting KOTOR2 lately and while I know TOR kind of shits all over it, it still has me craving more of the universe. When TOR goes free to play, I guess I have nothing to lose, but at the same time it seems pretty much inevitable that I'm gonna get burned out before I even finish any of the campaigns. I'm interested in the supposed multiple KOTOR3's contained within the game, but I am so not interested in the MMORPG grind. Unfortunately I have to take one with the other, and because of that I'm not convinced TOR will be worth the time commitment required.

Is there a bullet point list that somebody could point me to explaining exactly what makes this a bad MMO? I'm interested, but don't understand why everybody says it sucks.

I might go back to finish my sith inquisitors story. I only got to around 16 but it seemed pretty interesting. But i probably wouldn't hang around much after that.

I thought I was going to for the story, but if the gameplay is regular MMO fare, I really don't think I can stomach that.
