Because iPad 2 was already near that price. If somebody wanted iPad and didn't have enough money he could always get Ipad 2.
7 inch android tablets are selling well because they're cheap, iPad mini isn't. Now...I wouldn't be all that surprised if iPad Mini outsold any Android 7 incher, but at the same time I doubt it will make any dent in small Android sales either.

The thing is that if someone is looking at the 7" market it's not because the form factor excites them. It's because they want a tablet but they don't want to spend $500 on one.

So if you're already in the market for a cheap tablet, why would you go for one that's slightly larger comparatively but much more expensive? It doesn't make sense. There are a certain number of people who will buy the 7" tablet just because it has an Apple on the back, but they aren't stealing this market from anyone.

They would have been smart just to stay out of it.

Some say that the IPad 3 has problems with games and stuff so there is slowdown or something like that. So I dunno if a IPad 2 is better or not

Yeah, that's what it seems like people are saying. Just curious if a used iPad 2 would be a better buy at this point.

Maybe I should just buy one of those, or ask for one for my birthday/christmas, since you all are praising it so much.

If you can get it for cheap, sure, but the reso jump and power hike in the 3 made a gigantic difference for me.

The 2 had about the right weight to it though, whereas the 3 is too heavy. I was kinda hoping when the 4th gen popped up that it'd be lighter but I suppose not.

Nexus 7's 16:9 screen beats 4:3. Can't believe they're even arguing this.

HAH! So true

I don't get why people prefer 16:9 on tablets. Besides no bars while watching movies, I mean.

Yep. Light refresh. Better specs, lightning connector. Same prices.

Oh snap...I'm so picking that up.

Yessssssssss!!!!!

I'm in your position and I think I'm going iPad Mini. The size and weight are huge advantages for me, I'm not going to notice the lack of retina having never had it and I'll save myself a chunk of money.
I was thinking about saving money and getting a Mini too. But, since they refreshed iPad I have to get it.

The nexus 7 is sold at cost, Apple will never win the price game vs a competitor making it's income off secondary revenue from the device. But unless Google up's its tablet game i think nexus 7 users will still be in that weird stretched phone app middle ground.

They can at least come a helluva lot closer than $329.

The markup on that thing is ridiculous.

Well there it goes... I was super interested in the iPad Mini as every other tablet is too big for my taste but 320€ is 50€ more than I'm willing to pay, 270€ would be a okay price for me but anything higher is sad :/

THANK YOU. People just can't understand Apple v Google/Amazon/B&N. Completely different sources of income. THough I still think it's in Apple's interest to not let the game get too big but by next Christmas I'm willing to bet Google has a $49 tablet.

Mac app store shows 1 update, but then I click it and it says "No Updates Available"....

Watch it be iTunes 11 coming through. I'd be so happy.

Apple is not fucking Nintendo guys. Their on par with Google/Amazon's online services; there choosing to not sell at a lost. Its not like they couldn't and still profit.

Aspect ratio doesn't matter to me, but the fact that the Nexus 7 has a higher resolution in a smaller, easier to hold on one hand screen, is kind of a bigger deal. If this had a retina, I'd probably buy it.

This will sell gangbusters in China, where Nexus and Kindle are not on sale, consumers are more price sensitive than most markets, and they constitute Apple's 2nd largest market, already constituting about 20% of Apple's sales (and rising).

Wrong again.

Why don't you go ly dow. Take a break. The fortress is fortified, soldier.

I know many, many people who just don't want a bigass tablet. They are 7" tablet buyers and that is their preferred size. It's like saying 13" laptop buyers really want 15" laptops, but are too poor/cheap to buy one. While its true that smaller ones are a little less, they are also more versatile and convenient. It has it's own market, and this will attract many of those buyers.

You're trying much too hard. While it's funny as shit to read, I'm assuming you're not posting for our entertainment. Have a coke and a smile.

$70 difference is far from "already near that price". That's nearly half the price of the N7. Not everyone wants the Mini because it's cheap. The new screen size and the fact that it's 'new' will sell this thing like hotcakes. Not to mention the Apple branding, marketing, etc. As much as I like my N7, it severely lacks a lot of things like a camera, apps, and of course LTE which is all available on the Mini.

If I was in the market for another tablet (which I'm not), I would easily choose the Mini over the N7. The apps, build quality, 3rd party support and design is far surpassed anything Google has out. While $329 isn't what everyone hoped for, it's still easily a better buy to the casual consumer over something like the Kindle Fire or N7 even with the premium.

If she's looking for a device to read books with there really is no competition for a Paperweight.

She was hoping to get something that size to read on and play Words with Friends, Scramble with Friends etc. So she won't have that. Kindle Fire isn't an option since it really really sucks (opinion).

first of all... the new imacs are just

second of all: wwhy do you think that the ipad 3 owners are now fu***? there would have been an update in february or march and so they are updating the ipad 4 to 5 months earlier... so what?...the next generation will come in november 2013..

The Nexus is designed more for portrait use so it makes sense, and then flip it on it's side for videos.

maybe none of you noticed that they are basically comparing a 7 inch screen to an 8 inch screen up there...

sure it was effective (hell look at the response you're giving it) but it just isn't accurate.

It's like Romney lying in all the debates. Sure it's more effective than saying, you know what Mr. President, you're absolutely right. It's just not true.

I think you're both right.

That image is misleading, iPad Mini has a 7.9-inch display and Nexus 7 has a 7-inch display. Plus, the browser can also be looked at in portrait mode. The difference is almost negligible, but in 4:3 you will deal with black bars when watching movies.
