Because iPad 2 was already near that price. If somebody wanted iPad and didn't have enough money he could always get Ipad 2.
7 inch android tablets are selling well because they're cheap, iPad mini isn't. Now...I wouldn't be all that surprised if iPad Mini outsold any Android 7 incher, but at the same time I doubt it will make any real dent in small Androidsales either, let alone be a nail in their coffin (anyone who thinks that is delusional)
It's a worse iPad than iPad 3...

To the iPad 2...processor wasn't powerful enough to push that retina display. iPad 2 users claim they notice significant lag between the devices.

New iPad looks great. But my iPad 3 hasn't suddenly become obsolete so I'll be hanging on to it for a while. Apple fans, you don't have to buy every iteration. I'm perfectly happy with my iPad 3 and IPhone 4S, thanks.

The nexus 7 is sold at cost, Apple will never win the price game vs a competitor making it's income off secondary revenue from the device. But unless Google up's its tablet game i think nexus 7 users will still be in that weird stretched phone app middle ground.
Maybe I should just buy one of those, or ask for one for my birthday/christmas, since you all are praising it so much.

Some say that the IPad 3 has problems with games and stuff so there is slowdown or something like that. So I dunno if a IPad 2 is better or not

Fun conference. The new iMac looks incredible as does the 13' MBP. I want a 13' MBP w/ Retina, but my Mar'11 MBP is still running great and I can wait a bit longer. I was hoping for a iPad Mini w/ Retina at around $300, but that's okay for the first iteration. Had they released what I was hoping for I would have sold my iPad w/ Retina and gone with the mini. Instead I'll wait.

Far from obsolete since the iPad 3 will still receive software updates. If you really wanna complain look to Nokia Lumia 900 (released less than 6 months ago) owners who don't even get an upgrade path to Windows Phone 8.

This is the only reason I'm pissed, I wouldn't even think about upgrading right now but this will totally fuck up the resell value of the 3rd gen once I decide to get rid of mine, as it's going to be the redheaded stepchild of iPads.
And add in fucking LTE. GPS is pretty useless with a data connection.

I'm in your position and I think I'm going iPad Mini. The size and weight are huge advantages for me, I'm not going to notice the lack of retina having never had it and I'll save myself a chunk of money.
Same. Don't even feel compelled to upgrade yet.
