Black Ops II NDAs lifted - YouTuber impressions

I'm no COD guy (my primary FPS of choice is BF... but DICE is losing me with all the bugs), but what's the complaints about no recoil?

Sure there's not much recoil but from what I'm seeing - the game seems designed for a more arcade-like unrealistic experience that's fast-paced, pew-pew action?

Is it the lack of skill that is needed that is the complaint? I can see that argument but at the same time everyone has that same benefit/drawback - if it makes less skilled players play better - that means it lets the beast players play like Zeus. The curve remains the same.

Or, since I'm not a COD guy that doesn't follow the series much... what am I missing? I'm just curious since my experience with COD past MW is 0. Do some people not like the arcade-style action?

Man... I haven't been keeping up with the franchise or it's complaints, lol. Most of my findings of complaints have been "been there done that 3 games ago" and "hacks". So repetition in the franchise and cheaters.

It looks like fun, to me, but then again the last COD i played was MW... so I'm in no position to comment on the current state of affairs... just observe and ask stupid questions lol.

The Treyarch games have significant recoil compared to the Modern Warfare games. They even feel like you have more health. So in comparison id say that the MW games do in fact feel more arcadey.

Once again Treyarch> Whatever is left of IW.

The only thing they are behind in is the sound department, the guns still sound like staplers and cows farting.

Treyarch = old infinity ward, possibly better in some aspects but I have to wonder if it wasn't for COD4 how COD would be these days...

community response will obviously be overwhelming as usual. Get it and enjoy. As someone who plays both dice games and COD games, I like them both for different reasons. Just don't be overwhelmed when you first play it, everything will come.

Also the MW games are over the top arcadey compared to the treyarch games.

I am absolutely tired of new COD releases until next gen, but that said I'm still mildly interested in BO2 after hearing a lot of the details on it.

First of all, MW3 has been my favorite one since COD4, and those two games are the only ones I bought at full price. I actually recently got back into MW3 and have been enjoying it a lot. Waiting for the DLC collections 3 and 4 to go on sale on Steam later this year. Don't know why people hate it so much, but I haven't been all that embedded in the general COD community.

Hopefully they really are trying to do a better PC effort since Treyarch still does ranked dedicated servers and BO2 will use DX11. BO1 felt more balanced than MW2 but ran like shit on PC. If I do play BO2 though, it will be purely for TDM. I'm already bummed that it won't have Spec Ops Survival, and after WAW and BO1 I'm convinced that Treyarch still can't do campaigns as well as Infinity Ward.

Lag compensation that unfairly penalizes the host. Spawn system is terrible. Also, MW3 is generally accepted to have the worst map design in the series.

So did Activision shit this game up by pulling out all of the awesome stat tracking that Treyarch used into their abysmal Elite app, or will the stats still be accessible in-game? Hopefully Activision understands just how much a shit move it was to do that, but I doubt it.

Amen to all three. My god I feel like one of those WoW players who hates the game but can't stop playing. Bring on BLOPS2 please.

Ah coolness! I've been looking for something that contrasts BF - no vehicles, fast paced, etc - to change things up a bit.

Watching some videos I just might have to pick this one up. Need to ditch my backlog first so I might just ask this for Christmas from my in-laws - that should be plenty of time to knock a few titles out.

The Call of Duty series is for teens only now, period. They want money, lots of it. How do I know this? When you see companies catering to lowest common denominator. There is nothing wrong with camping. It's the dumbest term I've ever seen or heard. Look, it's a game and I get that. But if I'm "at war" I'm not going to run around like a chicken with no head.

Treyarch < or > than IW is the dumbest thing I've ever heard from people and everytime I hear that I know I'm listening to a foolish person. "Oh Treyarch is so great!" Yeah, great huh? Chopper Gunner and Dogs were a game ender nearly everytime. In MW2 high killstreaks didn't necessarily mean an unwinnable game. Dogs and Chopper gunner did, nearly everytime. But then IW catered to LCD so horrifically in MW3 that I couldn't play it anymore. No place to take real cover, horrible spawns, overpowered deathstreaks. That game was atrocious. But then, for all the right moves Treyarch seems to be doing with BO2, they ruin it immediately by removing the war aspect by neutering ghost.

If you ask me, there should be no UAV and a killcam and the skull and crossbones when a teammate dies is enough. Mix Hardcore mode with killcam and regular health and you've got a winner.

Leave Ghost unchanged for some of us mid-30s people.

never realized that CoD was meant to be played realistically...

You make some very valid points. As a huge CoD fan, I've noticed that since Call of Duty 4, each title caters to a specific group or players. CoD4 was the genesis of the Modern Warfare series and to date is still the personal favorite among CoD Fans due to its core gun-on-gun gameplay - it was all about the gun and players rather than killstreaks. Modern Warfare 2 went in a completely different direction and catered to the elitist and high body bag count players - air support 24/7 and a game ending nuke.

Black Ops took an entirely different approach after the huge outcry from the community from what was clearly a widely outbalanced and unfocused MW2. Treyarch was on the side of caution and rather than do anything crazy or out the box, they focused on making what is IMO the most balanced CoD to date. I'd say they achieved this, but for me personally, my friends and I got bored of the game quickly. Every single match my friends and I were getting chopper gunners > dogs and it got to the point where we were competing with one another more so than the opposing team in an effort to get our chopper gunner/dogs out before anyone else in our group could, as it tends to end the game quickly once they're called in. I appreciate Treyarch focusing on the fans, but being too balanced is a recipe for boredom, and blops was the one CoD my friends and I played the least online due as it just got old and stagnant.

Modern Warfare 3 was a gigantic disaster and I think it's clear it was the result of the departure of key assets from Infinity Ward. This time around IW (what was left of them) decided to make up for their mistakes in MW2. So what do they do? They cater to the exact opposite group they catered to in MW2 - rather than the high killcount elitists, they focused on the poor guy getting pounded by them. So they introduce insanely overpowered deathstreaks (hello dead man's hand - aka a mini nuke), weapon damage raised across the board so you're dead in 2-3 shots, small and poorly designed maps to ensure action hot-spots frequently, and of course, the support killstreak package that rewards players even if they die.

Black Ops 2 looks to be the most ambitious CoD yet, and for the first time the developers are finally taking major risks since MW2. Based on what we've seen, I'd say they're catering to the run and gunner this time around. They seem to be focusing on eliminating camping by rewarding the run and gunners to give them more of an advantage, while at the same time putting anyone stationary at a disadvantage. BF3 did pulled a similar stunt when they completely gimped the scout (sniper) class by listening to the community too much. I'm hoping Treyarch doesn't make the same mistake.

There was a good and bad side to each Perk, it was called Stopping Power/Juggernaut. You had to give up fire power or defense if you wanted Stealth.

Did anyone test out Ghost and can confirm that any movement will hide you from the radar? I'm pretty sure Treyarch said it wouldn't work that way and they designed it so it can be tweaked as needed.

The person in this video's running it:

Watch their yellow arrow on the minimap as it fades when you won't be picked up by UAV.

isn't black ops on pc monitored by treyarch? i heard only IW from mw2 and on that were cheat fests.

Black Ops is nearly cheat-free. I've seen maybe 2-3 total. They say Black Ops 2 is going to go even harder with cheat protection, so I'm not worried at all.

"monitored" you say.

more so by server admins and admin tools than by treyarch, by the time they see anything its much too late. thats why im scared about not having rentable servers that people can admin. cheaters gon cheat.

I wanted to get it on PC but after seeing previous CoDs descend into unplayable cheating grounds, I might go 360 ... again.

In my experience server admins do a fine enough job. At least in COD4 they did.

Wait, people can't rent and admin their own servers in BO2?

Even after all this time I'm still not completely sure I want to get this. Torn between military (if it was more scifi I might feel differently I think) FPS fatigue and genuinely being very interested in seeing where the story goes and the new additions they've made. Though I'm interested in the changes the actual act of playing online competitive multiplayer isn't that appealing. That's where the fatigue is really centered around I think.

So if I continue with my preorder (want to keep it because I'll be getting the game for $44 then and it will cost more later) I'm thinking I'll be playing the single player and zombies (well trying to play) almost exclusively. As popular as Zombies is I don't think I'll be some weirdo in the end. I get the feeling that a lot of people play zombies exclusively once they tried.

Problem with that is, you need to have an admin present and you simply can't rely on that. At least on consoles you will never run into that plus you don't have to constantly have that psychological thing of "He's doing good ... bit too good" and then it goes.

I really hate this "while moving" BS, as if people didn't run around enough like headless chickens in COD, and does it really mean people will take a step forward and back and all of a sudden you are unseen on radar? If so then that just shows how stupid this is, just let a motherfucker use Ghost, does UAV only work when the person who called it is moving?

Agreed.

I loved Black Ops, and hated MW3. MW3 tried to encourage headless chicken gameplay and failed. Black Ops was balanced and let people play however they wanted to. I never thought that game was unfair to run-n-gunners.

I havent looked at the rifles but is there an MK14 equiavalent in BO2?

I love that gun in MW3.
There're two semi-auto assault rifles: SMR ("Semi-automatic assault rifle. Highest damage per round in class.") and FAL OSW ("Semi-automatic assault rifle. Light recoil with moderate damage.") Sound more like G3/(BO)FAL and M14 equivalents from just that people most people that played seemed to have flocked to the full-auto stuff like always so I don't think there're many impressions.

Here's some footage of the FAL:

Does Activision know that MW3 was a disappointment?

Can anyone point me to anything where they admit it, or at least acknowledge it had its faults?

Activision only gives a fuck about profit and sales. MW3 sold over 15 million units worldwide. For comparison: Black Ops sold 13.5 million units worldwide. They don't see beyond MW3 outselling Black Ops.

infinity ward admitting faults? Harharharharhahar. They'd rather blame us or something. Activision wont say anything.

I'm still waiting for numbers on this. Do you have it? I know MW3 had a bigger launch but from what I can gather googling black ops still sold more copies of the game over its life.

The game itself was a disappointment though. I am hoping they realize that, and Treyarch fixed a lot of the problems.

Black Ops sold over 25m worldwide

But just how huge is the first-person shooter? During a recent earnings call, Activision revealed sales of the game have reached 25 million since launching last November.

The sales haul is staggering when you consider its predecessor, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, has sold 22 million since its debut in November 2009.

BO is the best selling game in the series.

Do all launch copies of BLOPS2 come with Nuketown 2025 even the non-preordered ones? (i.e. if I bought from Microsoft Store or Newegg)

COD should take a three year hiatus after this release, and just focus on making something different for the next gen.

This will never happen until it's too late.

So is there any article, any quote as to anyone acknowledging MW3 was a disappointment, and do they know why?

I know why, I want to know if they know why!!!

I really doubt that they'll ever do that. The next time you hear them mentioning MW3 it'll probably be from them announcing that BO2 has topped its launch. MW3 got off to the best start of any CoD, but just didn't have the same legs.

The game definitely isn't as good as black ops, overall. I think the lifetime sales of black ops 2 will be a good indicator of what happened. If they dip below black ops as well, and possibly even below MW3, then the conclusion is that the series peaked at black ops. BUT if it sells more than MW3 and possibly more than black ops, then yeah MW3 just was a weaker title.

Very nice. Thanks man.

This gonna be good.

How does the game look on the PS3? Does it at least look as good as the 360 version? All of my friends are getting BLOPS 2 on PS3 so I decided to get it on consoles as well despite being primarily a PC gamer. However, I'm worried about my eyes bleeding when I play it. Anyone got footage of the PS3 version?

I personally hated BO and im really hyped for this one. I dunno how you can say it definitely isnt as good. And imo, this game will sell more then BO and MW3. Then you say, the series peaked at BO, thats another good one.

I have this preordered.. some how BLOPS is the only COD I've never played... I just went to buy it on steam but its fucking overpriced.

Are you in the US? I think you can get it for $48 from Newegg, the game is Steamworks.

EDIT: Never mind, looks like the deal ended.
